  1. My takeaway is this. If you have a strong d-line and have the ability to pressure the qb, wouldn't wright be the better option? He's very mobile. Carr is not. He's better suited scanning the field for the open man.

Is NCC the first team that has controlled the los? If it is, then I really like our chances. Both our O-lines and especially our D-line is solid. We were short 2 on the o-line Friday against FC, and the replacements did a good job. So we have depth.

I have no doubt being without Carr impacted the game. But it did give the best player in 2A the ball in his hands every snap.

We'll find out in about 3 weeks. As always it should be a classic.

  2. Tough game. We came out a little flat from having an off week last week. Fern Creek is long, athletic, and fast. They also have a mini Jerome Bettis running the football. It was a physical game. We once again trailed at the half, and once again got a big turnover to start the second half. Defense came out very physical in the second, and kept FC off the board.

  3. DeSales = The Pittsburgh Steelers

The why? Just like the Steelers we stress a hard hitting disciplined defense. We aren't flashy on offense. We'll line it up, and run right at you until you can stop us. We are just as comfortable in a low scoring slugfest, so our defense can make a play for us.

We aren't flashy, not built that way. Just like the Steelers.

  4. Probably picking on the local 2A schools who have beaten less than stellar programs and bragging about it.

If your referring to DeSales, your way off base. We play our share of 6A opponents, but you won't see us pumping our chests out. We have beaten Ballard, and Butler so far this year. We dressed just as many players as they did. We expected to win those games. Next year we have X on the schedule, we'll play anyone, anywhere. I prefer playing the larger schools. We get more out of it, than playing smaller schools who can't compete. We have Fern Creek this week, then Lex Catholic, and CAL still left on schedule. Pretty tough schedule for this 2A team.

  5. Also on the CAL vs Danville number one talk, I think CAL had more question marks coming into the year. After two games those question marks have been removed and that raised the viewpoints on them. Clearly those two are 1A and 1B for now. They might change again based on what happens this week.

I'm not so sure about that. I think DeSales has the 2 most impressive wins so far. I also believe DeSales was the second best team in the state last year in 2A. Remember in 2 meeting with CAL last year they beat us by a total of 12 points.

Is CAL a better team this year than last? Doubtful. Is DeSales a better team this year compared to last? Absolutely.

At this point, there are 6 teams that have the potential to win it all. Lets just see how the season plays out, and enjoy the ride.

  6. Yeah. All those athletes, and that speed sure gave us trouble last year. Wait.... No they didn't. They didn't score on us last year!

Granted, last years game has nothing to do with this years. But DeSales at home is a tough task for Butler. They might have more athletes, and more speed than the Colts. But we'll have more football players. I'll take that. Colts by 3 TD's

  7. I didn't care for the scrimmage format.

Each offense got 10 plays. Then they went to the freshman teams. Again 10 plays.

Then we played 1 regular quarter. It wasn't very competitive. We scored 2 touchdowns, should have been 3. They ended up in the negative yards. The couldn't move the football.

I don't see SK having any problems.

  8. DeSales fans are I would say cautiously optimistic. I think we will be a better team, this year, than last. We'll once again have about 4-5 kids running the ball, and our QB has matured quite a bit. He throws the ball nicely, and is a definite threat to take off. Defense, well it's DeSales. We expect a tough hard nosed defense.

We'll know more after Friday night's scrimmage with Meade County.

  9. It's going to get worse before it gets better. Some the the football facilities in JCPS look like 3rd world countries. Jefferson County Traditional Middle School has the best middle school program in the area and they feed directly to Male. There a reason why CAL and DeSales have risen the way that they have. They are good schools and less expensive then Trinity or X. Until JCPS addresses ALL of their issues it won't get better.

Wrong....The tuition for DeSales is the same as St X, and Holy Cross. The Archdioceses sets the tuition rate not the school. Trinity is a few hundred more, as it is not a Archdioceses school. The reason for the rise at DeSales is easy. For years they played 4A football with 300 kids. When they got reclassified to 2A it has allowed them to compete at a more fair level.

  10. I guess my West side bias is coming out, but I see it as

    1. CAL

    2. DeSales

    3. Mayfield

    4. Danville

    5. LCA

CAL will be solid again. I do think losing Paulson is going to be a blow. He'll be hard to replace. DeSales was very young this season, the defense should be just as good if not better. Our Soph QB should be improved as well. We had a handful of freshman that played this season, and got some valuable experience. Mayfield is Mayfield, so they will be there. They will have home field in the semi's this year, so that might make them the favorite. The East side 2 team race. Danville and LCA.

  11. As a rival to CAL, I feel kinda dirty picking them. But... I do think they will win. They are a pretty complete team. They have all phases covered. There are always unknowns, like turnovers, I feel that would have to happen for Danville to win. They will need some breaks. But hey it's football. Anything can happen! Good luck to both teams, play it hard with no injuries. Enjoy it for the year. Colts will be back next year.
