I went to Holmes and the money was mostly allocated to football and basketball. There was not as much parental support for those inner city schools compared to suburb or county schools. Its a matter of numbers for Holmes and Newport. They don't have money to travel and play many schools outside region unlike the football and basketball teams, meaning less exposure. I agree that baseball for those teams just do not get the interest from the better athletes in the two schools for that reason. As I said basketball and football are more their focus. This leads to sub standard play in most cases. Of course that's just my opinion.

Holmes and Newport has a minimal athletic budget I think and basketball I believe eats into that budget along with football so the boys focus there. Just my opinion. Since region realignments Simon Kenton and Scott are not noticed as much. Simon Kenton more so than Scott, they have who I believe to be two players I feel should get more recognition than are. Tristen Marcum and Sean Lawrence are talented and will factor into Simon Kentons success.

I think the nky teams have the ability to show well this year a couple as has been said have some good depth. I for one anticipate a good season in the 8th overall. Tough region for sure.

I suspect that it's worth the drive I do like how the 8th is shaping up.

Where is the 8th region tourney this year?

Simon Kenton three outs away with one of their better players and pitchers on the bench with a broken arm in Tristen Marcum. They will benefit from his return tremendously and with the other returners I do see big things from them this year. They should hit well this year had a streak of errors which doesn't help the pitching but they will be better.

How do yo guys see this region playing out?

Being from nky all my life I usually have stuck to 9th region teams, but in the last couple of years Ive noticed some of the 8ths prospects. Collins won the region last year and are the early favorite this year. I however have expectations for Simon Kenton they have some good players returning. Two great pitchers in Tristen Marcum and Sean Lawrence. Marcum doesnt have over-powering stuff but he is a Greg Maddux clone meaning his placement is outstanding and he is consistent. 5 seniors returning with 4 decent juniors, I expect alot from Simon Kenton. South Oldham will show good as well as Owen county though I still feel Simon Kenton will turn heads.
