  1. Backfield ... not even close. Vocke and Nussbaum .... incredible players. I believe there are 10 or 11 players off that 2011 team that are playing college sports. The 2011 New Cath team is head and shoulders above this year's New Cath team. They were undefeated when Beechwood beat them. Beechwood put a running clock on the 2A state champion Holy Cross team. That BW team annihilated people every week. I don't want to go in too deep on this here. The focus and discussion is on this team winning Friday. As good as that 2011 team was, if this team beats Mayfield Friday they will be able to make a claim that they are better.

We will just have to agree to disagree.....but that's ok, we are both hoping the tigers pull off the win on Friday!

  2. Vocke and Nussbaum are ones that come to mind without looking things up.

Vocke and Nussbaum were definitely two of the names, Eykmans, who played OT was probably another. Eykmans has started at OT since his freshmen year at EKU, Nussbaum went to EKU then transferred to Georgetown, voted conference freshmen of the year at LB, Vocke has gone on to be successful at Heidelberg.

Usually when someone gets on the site early in the year and starts spewing D1 garbage, its just that. Now Mr. Jackson from MF.....well I was one of those idiots spewing about him being D1....he was a man playing amongst boys.

  3. Now, now ... let's not get carried away. There is no way this team is "much better" than the 2011 team. I won't even say they are better than the 2011 team. But this team can earn that on Friday, if they beat Mayfield. If this BW team loses Friday, I go with 2011 as better than 2014. The proof will be in what happens on the field. As of now, the resume of the 2011 team is more impressive than the resume of the 2014 team.

Not so sure I agree with you on this VOR, what in your opinion makes the resume of the 2011 team better than 2014? 2011 lost to CovCath and beat a less than average Dixie and Simon Kenton team, they didn't face anyone that would compare to Dixie and Mt. Healthy this year, and they beat NewCath by a lesser margin if memory serves me correct.

The O line for 2011 was probably a little better only because of Eykmans, but I think the 2014 O line is more athletic and more cohesive. QB this year is a definite upgrade, and with Studer, Stinger and Stokes in the backfield I think it is a toss up between the two teams.

JMO, I hope after Friday night there is no questioning who is or was the better team.

  4. Hats off to the Tigers! You have a top notch program and it starts at the top with Coach Rash. Coach Rash is a class act.

Day started tough for the Panthers because the lost a defensive line starter for breaking team rules. Which made a thin Dline really thin.

BW did exactly what the Panthers expected and feared the most and that was line up double tight and run right at the Panthers all night. Panthers didn't have enough up front to et a stop. They forced 2 punts all night and one punt was a fake for a first down. The big play early in the game.

Second big play was second series the Panthers threw a pick in a screen pass in BW end of the field.

Frankfort being down 10 at half felt they in a good spot because they got the ball back first after half. Plan was to score and hopefully force the Tigers to change game plan and throw more. Couple of times the Tigers got in the shotgun they pressured the QB. Any way the Panthers threw another pick after half in BW was set up in their side the field again. They took advantage again.

Panthers had to many turnovers and not enough stops.

Very proud of the effort of the Panthers. The senior class has a great group of kids and the program is better because of them.

Only thing I hate the most is the team Frankfort took to Lincoln County in week zero is not the same team they took to Beechwood. Wished those two teams could have played. Who knows what would have happened.

Best of luck to Coach Rash and those Tigers. Great group of young men.

As noted by another poster earlier, Frankfort is well coached, hard nosed and physical, all things you want your team to be. They never rolled over, they just kept coming back during the game. Hats off to the Frankfort staff, those young men are always prepared. I'm not sure who they have coming back, but I am sure they will do what they always do, reload. If things work out the way they should, the tigers will be making the journey to the capital city next year for the regional championship. Congratulations on a great year, hope to see you all same time next year.

  5. Congrats to the Tigers, should be interesting to see a all cat matchup next week. I see Bw is really relying on the run game first and mixing in the pass. Stringer is one of the most impressive backs in 1A for sure, fun to watch him run. O line looks very good for the Tigers as well. Will be interesting to hear what CoachBuckett has to say this week if we can get anything other than sandbags out of him on this matchup.

Stringer seems to be running with a huge amount of confidence right now, and with Studer back in the mix and Stokes getting carries at FB they will be tough to defend. Hope I am back in town this coming Friday, think it has the potential to be one heck of a game.

Oh, and I don't want to offend the big guys up front, they are doing an unbelievable job controlling the line of scrimmage.

  6. A little to boisterous with the vocal cords is what I am hearing, said something the ref didn't like and out came the laundry. From what I was told it wasn't profane language, just something the ref didn't like. Can't say this info is completely correct, just what I heard.

  7. The middle school team moved up this year to play in the middle division of the northern Kentucky middle school football league, it is my understanding that coach Bright and coach Rash wanted to do this so that the middle school team would follow in the steps of the varsity and play against better competition. They had a successful season considering the relinquished 5 of their 8th graders to the freshmen squad, all of which have played a huge part in the success of the freshmen team. Some names to watch over the next several years are Clay Trusty who will be an outstanding QB at the next level, Hank Birindelli who is a versatile athlete, The Baugh twins who are both tough nosed kids and Sabeon Turner who is sure handed at WR and a heck of DB. Sure there are others to mention, but sorry I don't know all their names. The middle school team had about 30 kids on their roster, so the numbers were good....the freshmen team should be well stocked again next year.

  8. Why don't we wait until England plays vs Dixie to determine who is the best RB? In my my mind it's Drew Moore. I know, he's a QB you say, but he still is the best runner I've seen. I don't care about yards, lot of variables with that. I look at YPC. England is a power kid, Powell more of a shifty back but does run hard. Both kids avg over 7 yards a carry, but so do a lot of other backs in the area. I would say England has played the tougher schedule of the two by a large margin. To label them as two best backs is very myopic, not sure where they get that tag from?

For my money I'll take #27 from Dixie as the best, he seems to have been lost in this conversation...
