This should be one of the better games on Friday. I like South Warren 28-21.
-
Man! That's a long road trip for a 1st round game. It just doesn't make any sense.
-
The human aspect... have you seen KY HS AP Polls, some are downright atrocious. Bowling Green had a bad loss to PRP, plus they'd have the weakest schedule of the Top 10.
I don't consider the AP Polls relevant. I'm talking about people that actually watch the games.
-
Bowling Green should be on any top 10 list. That's why computer rankings don't work. They don't take the human aspect into consideration.
-
I'm totally with you on this one BW!!! We can think the critically acclaimed "cross-bracketing" mess for that. :ohbrother:
As you may know, these 2 have played in the Finals before with the Epic 94 game with CovCath winning 24-21 stopping BG at the 1 as time ran out...
That was a great game. Soooo close.

Ok. I have to work in Caneyville that evening, but will be coming back through Shepherdsville around Kickoff. So I'm going to the game to at least cheer on my nephew.
I hope your nephew has a great game, Tank. My wife is having surgery Friday morning and I will have to miss the game. I think the Purples can handle their business, even if I'm not at the game.
-
South Warren is better than most people think. They have blown out the same teams that Bowling Green has blown out. They know what this game means to both fan bases. I think this game will be close. The Purples are finally healthy and I think that will give them the edge. Bowling Green 28-21.

This should be a great game. PRP has the speed and St. X has the bulk. I'm going with speed. PRP 28-24.

PA, I certainly understand your opinion and I've been thinking about my response, as I want it to be as thorough as I can even if we aren't eye to eye after it, which is ok. I started this thread with the mentality of being as fair as absolutely possible and as fun as absolutely possible and as informative as absolutely possible.
With that in mind, I had to take my Purple colored glasses off and put @PurplePride92 's Purple Kool-aid in storage for special occasions. If I didn't BG would be on the 1 line and never leave. How fun would that be for all non-Purple fans?
And as we have talked before, I am harder on BG IMO than most on this ranking. It's like coaching your own son; most all are harder on the son than the rest of the team.
With that crap out of the way, let's look at THIS Season:
Mayfield Cardinals 2A - 4 games 4 wins;
Union City, TN - Ranked #1 2A School in TN - Burried 41-0
Hopkinsville - 4A, at the time a top ranked 4A team - on the road - 49-20 - No contest - But they are 0-4; Not my or Mayfield's problem.
Paducah Tilghman 3A - Rivals since before our grandfathers were born - 47-14 - No contest.
McCracken County 6A - Rivals and had beaten Mayfield 2 of the past 4 years - 49-27 - Convincing win.
Bowling Green Purples 5A - 4 games 2 wins;
North Hardin - 6A - decent opponent out of the gate - 42-7 No contest.
PRP - 6A - Very good opponent - Loss - 35-21 - BG blown out in first half 28-7 and fought back some in second half.
St X - 6A - Extremely good opponent - Loss - 30-19 - BG again down at half and fights in second half.
Owensboro 5A - 48-21 - BG controlled this game.
SO: Mayfield 4 games played: scored at least 41 points in every game. Given up a max of 27 points. Have played up a total of 7 classifications (2 for Hopkinsville; 1 for Tilghman; and 4 for McCracken County)
BG 4 games played: Scored at least 19 every game. Given up a max of 35 points. Have played up a total of 3 classifications.
Conclusion: ALL THIS to say that Mayfield has played up significantly for their classification and mastered that to date. BG has played teams that will clearly help them in the playoffs. BUT, in the St X game specifically in the first half they had multiple opportunities they squandered in the red zone. I think that was a missed opportunity and showed their youth and likely the main reason I have kept BG at 2. Finally, BG and Mayfield won't play this year so it is up to us to pontificate away. And it would be pretty boring just leaving BG at 1 no matter what. I can make an argument for BG at 1, but am hoping you can see my argument for having Mayfield at 1 for now. :thumb:
I completely understand. I'm a homer and I know it. You do an awesome job my friend. And by the way, Mayfield Rocks!!!

Great stuff P88. I am a huge Mayfield fan, but I just don't see them beating Bowling Green. Mayfield could probably beat all of the 5A schools in Kentucky, except for the top 2 or 3 teams. Just my opinion. Nothing against the Cardinals.

This one is over before it starts. Running clock in the 1st quarter.
-
Bowling Green is not even in the top 20. It's been awhile since I saw that.
-
Coach Wallace may rethink playing Saint Xavier after next season when the contract is completed.
Why would he do that? St. X is great test for the Purples every year. They are a class act and we look forward to playing them every year. I think I know what you are insinuating and the answer is no.
-
I will just say, "Go Purples".
-
Trinity 45-14. Trinity is really good!
-
The Purples have to protect their quarterback better than they did today. I know there was at least seven sacks.Buchanan looked like a deer in headlights out there today. If they don't learn how to protect the quarterback it's going to be a long season. With the exception of maybe Covington Catholic, I don't think we will see a better team this year than St. X. These young Purples will get better every game and make a run in the playoffs.
-
Great job P88. I imagine this one was a little harder to post. It's been awhile since the the Purples we're not #1.
-
Saint Xavier wins this one easily as their 55 seniors may all see action. Bowling Green may not bounce back from the deflating loss to Pleasure Ridge Park. Maybe Bowling Green Coach Kevin Wallace will change his thinking and decide it is easier to beat Trinity the next time this contract is up for renewal.
You know Bowling Green has won 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two. It might be awhile before Coach Wallace panics and begs out of the contract because we are overmatched.
-
No shame losing to a team like PRP. They are a very good football team. If they can cut down on their penalties, they will be tough to beat. The Purples will learn from this loss and be a better team because of it.
-
Sitting at my bar in the garage watching old Trinity games via YouTube on the big screen. Sellersburg Celebrates is going on at the park next door. I have to work the Scout booth after the Rocks game is over.
Ahhh... Boy Scouts. Been there done that. I just don't picture you as an Eagle Scout kind of guy. Lol
-
I don't think this one will be close. Christian County has too many athletes and one of the best quarterbacks in the state.
-
To me It looked like Male was taking it for what it was...a scrimmage! A practice game. It didn't mean anything. Two teams trying to get better, before the real games start. No sense trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist. Good luck to Male this season. A great group of young men.
-
The Gators will roll. Central is still a couple of years away from winning more game than they lose.
-
Bowling Green is much better than I expected. It was 35-6 when the subs started the 4th quarter. The Defense was very good for this time of the year. The Bucannon kid is going to be a great QB in this offense. The Purples special teams needs a lot of work. And then there is the Tisdale kid. He is fun to watch. I was a little worried about this young group of Purples, but I think they will just keep winning like the group before them. It's a great day to be a Purple!

The Purples are used to practicing on Thanksgiving Day. Purples 35-21.
