  1. Hello Family and Friends of Freedom Fogt,

On behalf of St. Henry and the Fogt Family, we want to extend our sincerest thanks to all of you for coming out and sharing your evening with us at the Freedom Fogt Fundraiser. Because of the generous donations from so many people, the contributions, and the auction items sold, the fundraiser was a HUGE success—more than we ever thought possible! It truly was an amazing and humbling experience to see so many friends throughout the NKY community come together to help one of our own. The financial contributions will certainly lessen the burden of the medical expenses but the warmth of your friendship and support is a true blessing in healing.

Thank you, again, for your time, generosity, thoughts and prayers.

    Very gratefully,

    The St. Henry Family

    #LadyCru #Softball#Nation#

  2. Hello Softball Friends,

As many of you know, Coach Freedom Fogt from St. Henry has dealt with Type 1 (inherited) Diabetes health related issues over the last few years which recently culminated into a partial amputation of her left leg and total reconstruction of her right foot. Freedom and her husband, Chris, have been at the helm of St. Henry softball for the past 6 years and are huge part of the NKY high school and travel softball community.

We, at St. Henry, want to extend a personal invitation to our softball friends and hope you will join with us for a fun night of food (pasta bar), silent auction, dancing and music by Doghouse on Saturday, February 4th from 7-Midnight at St. Henry High School (3755 Scheben Dr., Erlanger, KY). Cash bar/beer/wine/water/soft drinks. Cost is: $20/person ($25 day of event). To purchase tickets, send a donation or auction items, please call: 859-802-5289 or SHDHS at 859-525-0255.

We sincerely appreciate all the well wishes and the support from such a great community of friends. Hope to see you Saturday, February 4th!

    St. Henry Softball Team

    (past and present)

  3. Last time we measured im thinking we had it at 225 to left, 235 to center and 230 to right. I'll measure again tomorrow.

I know Villa's is longer to all fields than ours.

Pretty Close. See attached. It's 240' to center.

You can do this on Google maps pretty easy and see that Villa's field is even bigger.

  4. The sad thing is that you guys have evidently forget one thing! It's a popularity contest Not a best player award! First the vote is taken way before the seasons midway point! Second all the coaches don't take it serious (the weekly standing prove that) even if they wanted too they don't get to see all the players and then most would still vote to get certain kids notarity and/or they hold grudges against others!

It only takes one coach black balling a kid for whatever reason not giving her any points and the system doesn't work. A couple years ago there was a tie for player of year where it should of been a land slide and the co player of the year wasn't even best player on her team.

    Well said Four King Crazy.

  5. One of the kids on Crus list is hitting about .530 with a SLG % in the .850 range And that's against the schedule the Birds the Birds play. May not be the player you're thinking of...And also has a fielding percentage of .993 with over 150 chances. Her lone error came against Butler I believe.

Just for giggles, I think I'm going to check the stats against only NKY teams and see if there is any difference.

And by the way, her double against ST. Henry would also have been out on most fields.

You are absolutely right @Playtowin29, that would have been out on most fields, it was a very good hit. But instead, it's just a double. Only 6 times this year did Gabby have a chance to make hits like that a homer, which would have made her over 1.100 SLG % even higher.

SH last year had a great schedule, playing teams in FL that were ranked in the state of FL and played quality teams from OH and IN, yet Gabby still had a SLG% over .800 and had half the games at SH. I have no doubt her hitting would have held up pretty well against better competition this year, but we'll never know.

  6. #RCC9 , you run a great program and do things the right way. You have some great players on the team too.

But the POY for Div II... for this year should be Gabby Stewart. Her offensive numbers are undeniable, and would be even better in a reasonable field. She also hit pretty well against your dominant pitcher, likely hitting one out if on a reasonable field, probably getting a double on SH's field (if you wouldn't have had your outfielders playing so far back ). She's only struck out twice this entire season. And she's been intentionally walked many times, since SH doesn't have the luxury mentioned in the Highlands article of surrounding her with other great hitters.

And defensively, she's on every play, and working hard this year. She's got the best arm on any catcher in the area. She's also played all over the field in her career, playing 3rd, SS, 2nd and pitch just this Year. No doubt she's the best defensive catcher in the area.

If you want to talk about deserving for a career, she's got that as well. Hitting over .500 for a career, winning the defensive player of the year on her team as an 8th grader on a team with 8 future college players, at 3rd base, her secondary position.

  7. Sorry, at the time I counted, two games weren't updated in GameChanger. It's actually 18 total, but only 6 not at SH or Villa. Yes it's been a bad weather season for SH. And looking at the schedule, there are only 7 more regular season games with only 3 more not at SH or Villa.

  8. Graybill's would of Cleared a 300 foot fence easy. Like I said, it's the longest Women's HR that I have witnessed in person. It was a no doubter as soon as it left the Bat.

    :) 300 foot fence, that's funny.

It was a great shot! The one Gabby Stewart hit out earlier this year, was a very similar shot to the same spot. The fence at that point is about 235ft and it is fairly uniform.

Your statement however, that this was the longest Women's HR you've ever witnessed in person (and probably many at the game might agree with you), adds credence to the point I was trying to make last year, that it's quite hard to hit home runs in fields like Saint Henry or Villa. http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-softball-high/nky-sluggers-304863.html

There have been some pretty good power hitters at SH in the past few years (like Mamee Salzer, Noel Butts, Sami Ives, Teresa Urban, Jordan Kramer, and Gabby Stewart), who's power numbers have been hurt by the deep fences of the fields they play on. As even Lawnboy and others have commented on, Gabby Stewart has hit several this year that would have been out on any other field. I believe it's likely she would be leading the area in home runs and her slugging percentage would be even more impressive, if she played on reasonable fields. Out of 16 games played this year, only 6 haven't been on either Saint Henry or Villa.

  9. Amen RCC9!

Taylor is a fine school and the coach and program seem to be great. They were one of Gabrielle Stewart's top options. And the chance to play with Haley again was very enticing. In the end Gabby made the decision that the program at ONU for what she wanted was stronger than Taylor's, even though it will cost her more in student loans.

  10. Well Graybill isn't listed because an injury has prevented her from catching, but she is going to Louisville to catch. Not sure on the rest. I know Stewart has committed, but can't for the life of me remember which one she picked...and I hate that because she's one of my favorites...I should know this! Someone help a brotha out. Not sure about Lloyd or Dickerson either. Those four are Seniors. Daley is a soph and McGinn is a Freshman.

Stewart had 4 solid offers and interest from all levels. She chose Ohio Northern University, because she loved the school and their great Chemistry-Premed program.

  11. It's nice to see some discussion on catchers. It seems like they've gone unnoticed in the last few years. My heart, eyes and head say Stewart tops the list, but like Cru Bat Boy, I may be a little biased. :) It is quite a good group of catchers though.

McGinn is a nice player. I haven't seen Daley yet, but she's in a great program. I also haven't seen Mullins, but I'd like to.

  12. Lady Crusaders beat Lloyd Memorial on Tuesday 10-4 in seven innings.

Lady Crusaders scored four runs in the fourth on Lady Crusaders scored in the fourth on an RBI single by Carlie Townsend, an RBI single by Ashley Pollard, an error, and an RBI triple by Joanna Rebitski.

Townsend did her best to jumpstart the offense for Lady Crusaders, reaching base three times. She scored two runs and had one RBI.

Jessie Roark handled Lloyd Memorial's lineup with ease, racking up nine strikeouts. Roark allowed two earned runs, seven hits and four walks over seven innings.

The game's last lead went to Lady Crusaders thanks to a first inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Gabby Stewart and an RBI single by Teresa Urban.

After a quick strike from Lloyd Memorial, Lady Crusaders responded with one run in the third. Lady Crusaders scored on a passed ball.

After posting one run in the fifth, Lady Crusaders again scored one in the sixth. In the fifth, Lady Crusaders scored on an RBI double by Stewart, bringing home Kaitlyn Becknell.

First game of the season that Gabby Stewart did not hit one out. The seniors for St. Henry really stepped up with Gabby Stewart and Teresa Urban both posting 2 doubles each and Joanna Rebitski posting a double and a triple.

Props to Lloyd for an improved team with a lot of potential for the coming years. The game was closer than the score might indicate.

  13. Well you are wrong on a few points... And while I do have a good sense of humor, I really don't tell myself jokes on a regular basis. I'll address you last point first... The State of KY home run leader has about 14 or so homers. I have no idea how big their field is but what that does say is that HRs are a small part of slugging %. My DD has a grand total of one but has a Slugging % in the .830 range. Multiple base hits 2b and 3b contribute more toward SLG than home runs do in the grand scheme of things. Larger dimension fields obviously have more open space to cover... Hit one to the fence in the gap gives the runner more time to round the bases and possibly and extra cut... Hmmm seems like I just read that one. Hence even more time to cover the bases.

Next point.... I would love to know who the hitters are that are as good or close to it as Shelby. Facing what she has to face in a lot of games... Intentional or not so intentional walks, if they are not, it is usually a mistake pitch. The schedule the Birds play... There are not many gimmies on HHS schedule unless they are mandatory and from what I've seen, they usually get the #1 in the circle. Maybe not always but most of the time. Shelby did not play in a couple games that could have padded her stats. Lastly, why don't we compare the teams the sluggers play against and check the win-loss record of such teams. I'm going to check ours tonight just because... Let's see??? Would Shelby have better stats against teams with losing records or winning records? Well I know one thing... She has some pretty good ones against the ones with winning records. And you may want to witness some of her home runs... You obviously have not since you are under the impression most would not have cleared deeper fences.

My original comment was directed about her speed... And yes I do fall for the Shelby lore... If you want to talk about hitting, power hitting especially, there is no one in Northern KY in the same category... I am a self professed HHS Homer (pardon the pun) and I feel a lot of our girls are very good at what they do... Haley Coffey can pick it as good as any SS. As with Whitney Quillen at third... Our first baseman has a .984 fielding % with over 150 chances. We have a team batting avg over .340. Are they all the best in NKY? Maybe not but pretty darn good....

As I stated before, Shelby is a great hitter. And more than just a power hitter, that’s obvious, just look at her average. The gap that is shown in her slugging percentage verses some others in the area may not be as wide if the playing fields were even.

You may believe I’m wrong on a few points, but you didn’t show how the statement that the (shallow) fences prevented more homers than gave her could possibly be true. You also didn’t show how smaller fields don’t help big hitters with slugging percentage.

It also sounds like you really don’t know the meaning of slugging percentage (SLG%). It is a formula; the total number of bases (gained with hits) divided by the number of At Bats. In simplistic terms then, a HR is twice as beneficial as a double in SLG%. Suppose a batter steps up and hits a HR in their first at bat. Their SLG% is 4. Suppose another batter steps up and hits a double in their first at bat. Their SLG% is 2. That second batter could hit doubles at every at bat and never reach SLG% of 4, they would stay at 2. So, your statement of “Multiple base hits 2b and 3b contribute more toward SLG than home runs do”, is totally incorrect.

Again, Shelby is a great and powerful hitter. And you’re welcome to believe that shallow or deep fields have no impact on her SLG%. You can also believe what you want about other teams’ competition. You can also believe that there is an enormous gap between Shelby and all other NKY hitters. But I feel that if an objective eye looks closely at the facts, they might come to some different conclusions.

I’m glad you’re proud of your Highlands team, they are a well-coached, talented team, and a nice group of girls.

  14. In the case of Shelby Graybill... The fences prevented more homers than gave her... Some of her lasers would still be rolling... Put her on a field with 228 fences and she gets a couple inside the parkers... She is an efficient base runner and NOT as slow as some may think... I think the other thing is she did not play against a couple teams that probably cost her at least a couple.

I'm sorry, I know Shelby is a great hitter and probably the best in NKY in a while, but not that much better than some of the others out there right now. So forgive me if I don't get caught up in the lore.

The fences prevented more homers than gave her? Are you serious? Maybe,... maybe she gets a couple in the park HRs, but then you'll have to take nearly all of the out of the park HRs off. Plus, many of those that might have been out in a smaller park, now have a better chance of being caught.

There are plenty of players in the region that have hit the ball off the wall on a line shot, I saw one at Dixie in Districts and saw another at Ryle in Districts. That doesn't mean it would have been an inside the park HR in a bigger field. As a matter of fact, the in the park HRs at big fields are usually the balls that hit the gap and roll to the fence.

Don't kid yourself, a smaller field helps big hitters with slugging percentage.

  15. Maybe whatbestforthegirls will chime in to dispute the Villa field not having home runs hit on it. In past threads it has been stated that B.Meier has hit homeruns at Villa and most of their games were played there. I've never personally seen the field, so I'm just stating some facts as far as what has been stated in previous post by whatsbestforthegirls and looking at Villas schedule. By the way, I'm not trying to knock anyone:)

It's pretty deep, not very symmetrical, but I think the shortest spot is LC about 228'.

  16. I can confirm that ALL of Graybill's are legitimate!!! Probably has 3 to 4 more if not playing on fields with unreachable or extremely long fences.

I feel for the players who have home fields with extremely deep fences. For instance, I've never seen anyone hit it out at St. Henry or Villa. I'm sure there would have been quite a few more for the St. Henry team this year if the fence weren't so deep. Especially Gabby Stewart. Most of her triples would have been out. And that would have raised her slug % and RBIs.

  17. Are those all legitimate homeruns, or are some in the park homeruns? What if a field doesn't have a fence or teams make errors trying to get a player out while they get all the way home. Does any of that come into place with slugging % or homeruns?

If the scorer rules it as an error on the throw it relay then it shouldn't be a HR, but we have to rely on the bookkeepers for all error implications.

  18. Based on the stats on Cincinnati.com, here are the top 10 Sluggers (Slugging %) for NKY.
