Agree he is a very good coach! They will miss him! With that said what do you mean when you say he handled a difficult team?
Newport is not an easy place to coach. Add on to that, stadium issues, admin issues, and all the other stuff? It's not an easy job.

I’m sure there are a bunch of reasons for Coach Hahn to leave, but when you go around a say, “I’m not walking out that door” for a year and a half then dip in May without another coaching job lined up, definitely raises some eyebrows.
Does he have another job?

Coach Hahn was a really good coach, and handled a difficult team extremely well.
Definitely odd.

I agree with this take. I think Sam fit the bill in what the program and the school district needed at this time. This is shown by the majority of the reaction from Holmes graduates on social media.
If he can get his teams to play hard like he did at Pendleton and with the Bracken girls, which I suspect he will, the people in Covington and Holmes alumni will start returning to Evans Fieldhouse.

- He “gets” the program/community about as good as anyone can, something that was sorely missed the last few years.
- He has experienced both great failure and great success throughout his career and is built to keep the program moving forward during lean times.
- For a team which as many losses as Holmes as experienced the past two years, to get a coach with head coaching experience at two places alongside the amazing coaching trees he is a part of as an assistant while still being under 40 is just an absolute

New coached will be announced tomorrow.
If my source is correct, I think the city of Covington should be very excited about the future of Bulldog Basketball!

Correct, State Champs 2009, State Runner up in 2008, and Final Four in 2007.
Region Champs 2013
Region Runner up in 2014 and 2015.
2015 was their last Region appearance.
Holmes played in three straight final fours from 2007-2009. No school has done it since. I am not sure when it happened last before then, but I would think it is not something you have seen very often over the course of the state tournament.

Who are the actual candidates that are being interviewed?

It was going to be tough for the next guy to do this job under the best of circumstances simply because following a legend is very tough.
With what I just said and what else is going on, good luck to the next guy.

I pity the coach on the franchise that drafts Shedeur because they are going to be instantly on the hot seat that if they don't win the talk will be that Deion will be the next coach.
Deion throws up another 4-8/5-7 this year and no one has to worry about that.

Seems to be a repetitive problem. They had a chance to get another alum about 10 years ago and dropped the ball there too!
It’s sad to see what the program has become. I hope they find the right coach to make the program relevant again.
There's an alum with Head Coaching experience, teaching creds and a passion for the school. The first call if I'm the AD needs to be Sam Elsbernd. He's battle tested and earned this chance, and would do great!

The bottom line is the lines have to be drawn somewhere. I know we have a lot of 8th, 9th, and 10th region traditionalist out there. Sometimes this stuff happens, but the 9th region isn't going to have 24-25 teams in it.

Normally firsts like this are something to remember, this first stinks if you ask me.
Is this because of when the game is being played (Thursday night, last game, during UK game) or because of wanting them in the same region?

Do the same format with the Girls one week and the boys the second week.
They basically take 2 weeks to play both of them as is.
That won't ever happen for two reasons:
Girls state tourney starts tomorrow
Have to keep the cash cow away from the SEC Tourney dates.
That is the reason for the W-TH-M-TU format for boys games (in most regions).

When is the last time these two schools have made the state tournament?

Just went onto Truist Arena site and tickets are $21. WTH?
I think this is why some people still think the tournament should be in the high schools.
You don't pay to park, you aren't paying $5 for a soda or popcorn. No "fees" on tickets.
NKU is a great arena and is much more comfortable for everyone, but you are paying stadium prices there.

There needs to be more that factors into classifying teams than boys in school. The above example of Grant County is a good start.
“good old days” don’t exist anymore. Times are different. Every class has 5ish teams that are actually in the running for a state title.

Bottom half of the bracket did no one any favors. A packed house if Newport makes the finals against CovCath or Cooper. Nice arena but I hate the parking. I’m still old school and wish it was being held at Holmes still.
Was having a talk with a friend of mine the other day about this and he made the comment of just how expensive it is to take a family to a regional tournament game. He made a good point. It’s like going to the movies. The tickets are reasonable, but after that it’s not. No one wants to pay concert and college game prices for concessions and parking.
The ninth region has had more success in the state tourney since moving the tournament to NKU, but I’ve found the atmosphere to be pretty weak. Some of the games there just seem lifeless.

I seen where part of the bracket is posted. Anyone with ties to the 15th Region have any idea what is going on/how this is going to work?

2A. You can't have a district with 4 teams and a district with 6 teams right next to each other.
On paper? No. But the closest school in 2aD5 to a school in 2AD6 is at minimum a 2.5 hour bus ride.

Does the new hire possess a better demeanor on the sideline than his father did? If his dad is on his staff, will that influence how he coaches each game? I know nothing of the younger Koz but the older one was known to be very loud and outspoken during games.
Drastically different demeanors.

I'm almost tempted to say Cincinnati post-Huggins. From 91-05 they were Cincinnati's team (more so than either of the professional teams) and were nationally known and respected. The level of talent that came thru UC during that era hasn't been matched since.
They had a couple good teams under Cronin, but nothing close to what Huggins had. I like Miller and think he may be able to make them a tourney team again, hopefully consistently, but I'm not sure the ceiling is going to be much higher than that. People will mention the Big 12, but I am of the belief that the basketball program is not the reason they are in that league.

A simple information request from literally any adult to a public entity would reveal this information if there are indeed formal interviews on behalf of a public school. If these interviews are informal (as they routinely are) then there is very little you can do but wait.
I have always been a big believer in, not secrecy or hiding information, but to handle a coaching search professionally. Professionally, to me, does not include input from the general public. General public should have no more say in how a publicly funded police officer applies our laws than how our publicly funded athletic departments select coaches.
I am incredibly tired of seeing coaching searches bogged down and slowed down because SOOOOOOO many people feel the need to be heard and be involved. Of course, everyone has an opinion and everyone feels they should be heard but where is the line? Take a look at the FAMU coaching search and the debacle that came as a result of "the people paying" demanding strong input on the hire.
I’ve always liked the idea of the principal and athletic director having other faculty members and/or other coaches on a committee.
I’ve never understood why current parents are on them. I just find it hard to believe it is all common interests.

I'd say Vegas is one place where the term "historical landmark" doesn't mean anything. If the new place can make more money, it's coming down.

If they were to physically change addresses, does that change things?
