This team gets killed by Team Indiana! Really frustrating for a basketball fan that we don't have our best players representing us in this game.
-
I wonder what Butler is going to do...its hard to be assistan for someone who got job over you and has 10+ less years experience! Probably why Rabbit said no.
-
1. Montgomery Co. led by sharpshooter Omar Prewitt
2. Pendleton Co. led by silky smooth pg Mason Monroe.
But between these two teams the real question would be :
who whines more ...Coach Simms or Omar Prewitt?
-
I had heard thru the proverbial grapevine that NC had found a boys coach but was still looking for a girls coach... anybody know anything?
-
I think Mason Co hired who they wanted....and someone close to their program wasn't it. Location or proximity to school had nothing to do with the decision.
-
Wonder why they are Hush Hush!? :sssh:
Must be really secretive if Ed is unaware of the potential replacements.
-
Anyone have any information on the openings at Harrison, Nicholas, and Campbell Counties?
Any possible candidates?
Any dates on hires?
-
Why would where he lived matter?
-
They needed someone close by (Brian or Jason) to bring back that MC mystique. Can an outsider re-establish that mystique if they don't have it?
-
I take it you are not happy with the hire???
No... I think he's saying that those 3 would be credible assistants with a wealth of knowledge.
-
I'm thinking Akin had more time to devote to basketball than some of the others. My daughter played JV and freshman this past season. She said they all had a good first impression but want to see how it goes when practices start.
I think player development can play a huge role. I don't feel Mason County has done a good job of that on the girl's side. Too much bad mouthing and not enough encouragement.
More time to devote to basketball? What's that mean? I would say any of the candidates interviewed were willing to devote the necessary time to the program.
What's Brian Littleton and Jason Butler done the past several years? Littleton is instrumental in the development of the girls at an early age and Butler has dedicated time to the program for 10+ years.
I agree that Akin deserves a chance to prove herself but please admit that she wasn't the most basketball qualified for that position.

I am suprised we are not hearing from the faithful Mason fans who always post?? What are their thoughts?
I noticed at the induction that only a couple parents showed up. I overheard a conversation and from what I heard the parents aren't happy with administrations decision to hire from the outside.
I still want a confirmation that the girls had their banquet at DeShas sans coaching staff... anyone?
-
Brian Littleton, according to my sources, also received an interview!

"Think".... "Think"..."Think"... pretty hard to start a feeder program in one year at Harrison County. I wonder what impressed the committee, they only had to look in their back yard for that. Oh, I forgot. Never hardly ever see them, except for regional tourney.
Im a familiar face in the AAU circuit and I've never seen a team from Cynthiana. Can someone shed some light on the success of Harrison Co. Feeder programs?
-
My sources point to yes in reference to Mr. Vikings question.
-
Not that I'd be calling for a firing, but you can tell a lot by a couple games especially since there's been plenty of practice time before then.
Knowing the game is not that big of a deal. Everyone in the state of Kentucky knows more about basketball than I do. Just ask them. How a coach relates to and motivates the players makes the biggest difference. If a coach can't keep a team's morale high, motivate the players and instill enthusiasm, it won't matter much how well they know the game. When you read about great coaches, do they talk about the coaches technical knowledge? No, they talk about their ability to motivate and inspire their players.
Good post!

Yes Lee they play downtown!
-
Don't you think it would be unfair to judge her on just a couple games?

Don't have anything against Coach Akin and sure hope she succeeds, but thought the Royals should have went with one of their own this time around, know that had two very qualified individuals but then again don't know about the teaching requirement aspects, etc. involved in selecting a Coach, maybe someone can enlighten me. Does anyone know Coach Akin's coaching history other than the one season at HC? Thanks
I agree... nothing against Coach Akin but last time they went out and got a coach....well that's why were discussing this now. Coach Butler has put in 10+ years as an assistant coach and deserves a chance. I can assure you all of this: if Coach Akin is just half as good as she made herself out to be today at the induction ceremony, the MC faithful have little to worry about.
Btw, no one has confirmed to me about taking instructional time out of the school day to go to DeShas sans coaching staff.
-
Maybe Piper was there to hand out the awards today.
Will someone please confirm that a banquet took place at DeShas today and no coaches were present?
if so poor decision made by administration!
-
Former Harrison Co head coach Piper Akin is named Lady Royals head coach. Was she the best possible coach that applied? What say you?
-
Heard they had a nice banquet at deSha's for the girls team following the announcement of Piper being named the coach. The problem was : No staff member from last year's team was present, nor any of the parents even included. Sounds like a great way to recognize your team and to get great pictures. Guess there is a first time for everything.
You mean to tell me that a banquet was held without a coaching staff present?
-
At Christmas time the HC faithful was ready to get rid of her. She won a really weak district.
I would like to hear what the MC supporters think of the hire.
-
Everyone who is anyone knows who the administration has chosen. Everyone also knows that their choice isn't going to be a popular one with everyone closely associated with the Lady Royal program.

Kellen Smith is a better player and PG than Gilbert... he got that because he is from Mason Co.
