  1. I thought it was interesting something I’ve never seen before. Right before the 6:00 mark before the game, all 3 refs left the gym to the lobby, Cov Cath came out and rattled the rims for almost exactly 1 minute. At 5:00 they stopped and the refs came back in.

The refs come onto the floor at the 15 minute mark. Typically, they do their pre-game routine with coaches and captains around 12 minutes. After that, if both teams go back to their locker and neither are on the court the refs will go back to their locker room for a few minutes. I assume that's what happened.

  2. Very intense, chippy game. I'd say there were at least a dozen unsportsmanlike penalties between the two teams, and there were several blind "de-cleating" hits. And, I thought the two assistant coaches were going to come to blows after the West team blitzed on a FG attempt by the East, which apparently, is a no-no for this game.

Great environment, and it was nice to watch some football in June! Congrats to the West Team on the W!

  3. I do agree with that. Allow me to clarify, I haven't seen many teams even attempt to run on him this season. Certainly not Max's fault.

I would say the biggest problem was that I don't think I saw a single pickoff attempt all game. Have to work them a little bit. Pitchers looks weren't good either. BW was running at will.

This is spot on. I don't remember Nick throwing to 1B one time all game long. Once Volz entered he did lob a couple over there. Kudos to Beechwood. They either had it scouted to a tee, or made a very quick and successful adjustment.

  4. The only reason that they won the District Championship is because McNeil and Kunkel did not play because of injury and Dante Hendrix went down with a broken wrist the beginning of the 4th quarter. Conner only beat them by one on a free throw with .08 left in the game. Hard to beat a team with 2 of the best players in the 9th region not playing.

The "only" reason? That's a little strong. These two teams always play tough games each other. Yes, Cooper won both games during the regular season, but it's not like they were blowouts. Both games were decided by 5 points and Conner had the lead in both games late in the 4th Quarter. Yes, obviously, Cooper's chances of winning would have much greater at full strength, but, injuries are unfortunately a part of the game. I think Conner still had a good shot of beating them in the District even against a healthy Cooper squad, especially with the District game being played at Conner.

  5. Ok let me breakdown my assessment of jobs in the 9th Region:

    Tier 1

    Cov Cath

    NCC

    Dixie

    Holmes

    Tier 2

    Conner

    Cooper

    Ryle

    St. Henry

    Tier 3

    Newport

    Boone County

    Lloyd

    Holy Cross

    Tier 4

    Ludlow

    Highlands

    Beechwood

    Tier 5

    Dayton

    Villa Madonna

    Bellevue

    Tier 6

    Heritage Academy

This is an interesting question/topic, and probably deserves it's own thread. I think there are several schools that could slide up and down tiers based on the criteria you are using. For example, is this based on the ability to win now vs the long haul? Open enrollment in Kenton County or in a private school setting? Based on salary expectations? Or, the whole ball of wax? And, so on.

  6. I won't argue that the other three might be better than Dixie but from a coach's perspective, Dixie is a tier 1 job. Also, Cooper is not a Tier 1 job. I think it is the cycle of Boone County schools. You'll see that each school goes through these ebs and flows of talent and right now it's Coopers turn.

Since we are talking specifically about the Conner job opening, some might disagree since Conner won the District Championship this year.

  7. Conners Maxwell Sims...

I love Max, and he's having a fine season, but IMO there's 2-3 other players on his own team that deserve more consideration for POY.

Connley and Henry are having fantastic years offensively and defensively. And Padgett leads the team in almost every offensive category (average, hits, stolen bases, OBP, etc).

  8. Cody Ware goes the distance for Conner and gets the W.

Conner scored 2 in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.

Winning run was scored on a SAC fly by Borman.

    Conner is now 17-4 (2-1).

    Conner 2, Lawrenceburg (Ind.) 1

    W–Ware (3-1); L–Bradley. Leaders: C–Padgett 2-3. L–Houze 2-3, 2B. Record: C 17-4

  9. Craddock pitched? I understand he quit the team previous week. Guess he is back?

Yes, Craddock pitched. He did quit the team a couple of weeks ago. He immediately knew he had made a mistake and went to Arlo. Arlo let the seniors take a vote and they elected to let him return after serving a one-week suspension. The game vs Cov Cath was his first game back.
