  1. We've heard that for years, I don't believe it. If it does happen then so be it. You can't bankrupt the state because we think we might lose a few teachers. Defined benefits is an out dated broken system and needs to be replaced.

Your not bankrupting the state. Make cuts in other areas that aren't such a need, like maybe entitlement programs. The trouble started by taking money that teachers put into the fund from their paychecks, and robbing Peter to pay Paul in other areas. If you are good with people deciding teaching is no longer a qualified option for a well educated, qualified person, than so be it. I for one would rather welfare dependency not be an option.

  2. Yeah, because he is totally cut off from society when he is with the golf pro. If I can maintain touch with BGP all across the world with my little old iPhone 4S I'm thinking he'd have some kind of technology to take care of business at a moment's notice.

So you can carry out the duties as POTUS using an Iphone while your on a golf vacation. That is a very weak rationale.

  3. Because they can. Wouldn't you?

If I had just cut White House tours and let criminals out of prison due to a sequester, no I wouldn't. It is very poor leadership. Btw, most presidential families didn't take multiple vacations a year, and I know of zero Presidents that took the time to spend days with a golf pro. Most were too busy.

  4. I agree entirely with the quote below. I also think is not just polluting our political discussions, but ending them before they start. I don't know if things have always been this way, but it's something I've been aware of for a while: People whose entire essence as a person is defined by their politics. As cynical as I am, who we elect and the issues we favor matter, so it's important to discuss them. But, the way people view their opponents as prima facie "stupid" or "evil" and thus refuse to engage these people, even be friends with these people, who cheer for their side they way they cheer for their sports team, is not good.

There’s nothing wrong with living a political life. That is, a life in which politics is one of your interests or your job, something you follow and keep track of and educate yourself on and argue about. The arena of politics is important; political decisions have consequences; and passionately arguing for your preferred political outcomes is nothing to be ashamed of.

A politicized life is a different beast, however. It treats politics as a zero sum game or a form of total warfare in which the other side must be obliterated. It alters every aspect of your being: where you shop; what you watch on TV; what sort of music you listen to; who you associate with. If you’re not with the politicized being, you’re against him—and if you’re against him, he is well within his rights to ruin you personally and economically. You, the political other, are a leper to be shunned, lest your thoughtcrimes infect the rest of society.

As I wrote, I find this to be more than a little disturbing. I don’t worry too much about growing partisan gridlock, but I do worry somewhat about an America in which each half the country hates the other so viscerally that they won’t even interact. That’s a truly dangerous state of affairs.

A Political Life vs. a Politicized Life | Washington Free Beacon

I was kicked off of the political satirists' sight Andy Borowitz this morning for debating a dissenting view. I wasn't vulgar, I didn't call anyone names, which I was called, and I wasn't disrespectful. He just wasn't willing to have my side of the argument on his site. As long as we operate in this mode, this country will continue to split apart. I had alway though the term liberal meant open to ideas.

  5. Are you telling me that a school of 1300 boys needs nice facilities in order to beat a school of 150 boys???? Give me a break...

Again, no disrespect to BB on this argument as clearly you were the better team here and then we get a response complaining about the facilities at T as an apparent excuse as to why T lost to BB. LOL

    What about Brossart's fascilities? :)

  6. After doing a fair amount of research I am leaning towards purchasing this gun. I would use it for duck, geese and primarily turkey. What do you guys think? Good buy?

Benelli 12 Gauge Nova® Pump Shotgun - 26 Inch Barrel | Bass Pro Shops

Has anyone used or heard anything about this shotgun?

I own one. I don't use it very much because I also own a Super Black Eagle II. However, I think this is one of the best multi use guns for the money out on the market.

  7. Teams that have won titles under the KHSAA System:

    Trinity

    Central

    St.X

    Male

    Manual

    Butler

    Seneca

    Flaget(closed)

If we are including the surrounding counties then Shelby County fits the bill as well. I would say Nelson too, but they are just outside of the area as far as I am concerned so they don't really count.

Something else to take into account with Louisville is that for the longest time, no matter the size of the school, all Louisville schools had to play in the largest class. That didn't change until the 80s or early 90s to the best of my knowledge, how that would have affected the landscape of titles I don't know. I do know though that it created an artificial bottleneck for the longest time in this area. Because lets face it, if Central had to compete in 6A right now despite their size then they might not have any titles. It's possible they may have 1 or 2 but I would think that 2 would be really pushing it.

I would go further to argue that Central wouldn't have any titles if they were playing in 4A or above. They have benefitted from six classes more than any other school in the state.

  8. 1. Louisville (Big Boys and Central)

    2. NKY (HHS NCC BHS in hunt every year)

    3. WKY (Mayfield, PT, BG, Fort Campbell in the hunt every year)

    4. EKY (Belfry, Bell, Hazard, Breathitt always good always in the mix)

    5. Central (Title town not what it used to be)

    6. Lexington (Sad to see what is happening up there)

I am putting this out there again, and maybe someone will prove me wrong with Louisville, but NKY has ten teams who have won state and 14 teams that have been in the finals. Does Louisville have that type of sucess? Maybe they have historically and I don't know about it.

  9. I will repeat myself from another thread. NKY is the only area in the state that has had ten different schools win a state championship, 14 appear in the state finals, and every school in the area, but Scott, that has had football for more than a decade had made it to at least the third round of the playoffs. Louisville is second, but the facts are that Louisville talent is sectioned off into a couple of schools that have had most of the sucess from the area. Central has emereged recently, but they have also been without a doubt the biggest beneficiary of the six class system that has allowed them to get away from having to beat teams that they couldn't in the past. Danville is titletown. The West has a couple of good programs, but overall, the west is pretty weak. Eastern KY lacks speed, but has many well coached hard playing teams. Lexington is the biggest underachieving area in the state when you measure talent vs. sucess.

  10. Nky football can make claims that no other large area in the state can. For instance, eight schools in the three county area have won state in football. Additionally, four more have made it to the state finals. Every school that has had football for more than ten years in NKY, except Scott, has made it to at least the third round of the playoffs throughout the history of their program. There is no area in the state that can make the same claims, including Louisville.

One error, nine state champions, if I am not mistaken. Beechwood, Ludlow, Bellevue, Lloyd, NCC, HC, Highlands, Cov, and Conner.

  11. Nky football can make claims that no other large area in the state can. For instance, eight schools in the three county area have won state in football. Additionally, four more have made it to the state finals. 12. Get my facts straight? Seriously ... read what I have posted ... then ... do yourself a favor ... here is the one year that said coach was at Trinity (according to the KHSAA):

Trinity (Louisville) 1999 Kentucky High School Football

As I have stated previously in my other posts ... (and READ IT BEFORE YOU QUESTION THE FACTS) ... some great coaches could go somewhere and not win ... yet step into another situation and do extremely well.

And if anyone from Trinity will admit to being happy with the situation in the link that I posted ... you are either in crazy .. or a liar.

I know many people involved in Trinity's program. I know that none of them were upset with him. They all expected him to be extremely good at Trinity, and do the same thing when he left, which he did. As far as being a liar....you forget that Beaty had to build back when he started. In 2000 they lost to highlands and lost bad to Male in the finals. In 2004 they lost to Dixie in the second round of the playoffs. He has done a phenominal job and will continue to do so, but don't act like their fan base didn't have faith in the man before him. Two losses to the state champion and the state runner up? That game, btw, was decided in overtime between X and Station.

  13. That's 4 schools. You can add Holy Cross in recent years, Ryle made it to state a while back. Boone will be good with their new coach I will guarantee you that. That's about 7 schools that have won state titles in the past. So to me, that shows you how GREAT the NKY region is.

Its more than you think. Lloyd, Ludlow, and Bellevue have also won state. Connor has won state. Ryle, Boone, Sk, and Cooper have all been runner ups.

  14. First question: Trinity is in a category with approximately 10 to 12 other teams ... that I consider to be a top program (Highlands, Mayfield, Beechwood, Cov Cath, St. Xavier, etc). Hard for me to narrow it down to one).

Second question: I very much believe that they probably work harder than 99.99999% of the teams in KY. But that is one small factor (of 100's) as to why they win. (Same goes for the rest of the list I stated above) Not to mention .. who was the coach at Trinity before Bob Beatty? (I have no clue either ... because he came in .. and didn't meet the expectations of the job and whoever it was .. certainly did not walk in .. and drive a porsche to the state championship every year).

Get your facts straight. He left Trinity for a better job at the time, Indy Warren Central. I watched his team beat Elder when they won state in Ohio in 2003 56-16. He won state in Indy at least four times in a row, but I don't remember his name.

  15. No, I'm genuinely asking. The thing you posted before (which I didn't see a link with it) didn't indicate a figure, but you said it was roughly $90 a month for having a child. That's hardly profitable in my estimation.

If you want to argue that welfare programs are bad because some people fraudulently participate, then it is one thing. And I wouldn't bother participating in a thread about that. But if someone is arguing that there are specific programs that incentivize terrible decisions through the ability to profit by them, then they should be able to link to those programs' criteria and show how a person could stand to gain more than they would lose by choosing them. That's all I'm asking.

Without having the child, you are not eligable for the overall program, which includes free housing, free food, free phone, free utilities, aided public transportation, and $90 spending money. As you see by Doomer's latest post, it is very profitable in some states. More profitable than working a job that pays double the minimum wage. Keep in mind, many people see any type of existance as a plus that doesn't require them to work.

  16. I posted the link already. Do you really want to know or just argue a point?

I find it funny that people don't understand that portions of our population are willing to lay on their behinds, procriate, and live off of government subsidence. The info you posted earlier made it very clear. A child allows you to get into the program, which provided a rent free dwelling, paid utilities, a cell phone, $90 spending money, and $90 in food stamps. This doesn't even mention free health care. There is a portion of our population that is more than willing to live in these conditions, as long as they don't have to work a lick. I wonder what would happen to the numbers of welfare recipiants if we made it come with mandatory labor to collect it? I am sure there are some fun labor jobs where state and federal programs could use some not so free labor.

  17. That's about as ignorant a statement as I've read in quite some time. It's not "liberals" holding the budget hostage. It's moronic politicians across the board. And to advocate anyone getting robbed is inexcusable.

I can agree on the someone getting robbed. However, do you really think that releasing illegal alien prisoners being the first thing you do as a result of a budget cut isn't geared towards shifting public opinion through fear towards eliminating that budget cut?

  18. I know this has been bought up before, but how about requiring a government sponsored sterilization to collect welfare on a child you can't support on your own. If the we have to pay for your children, you should at least be giving up the ability to have more. Collecting government money is not a Constitutionally protected right.

  19. Btw, moving away, whether it be to Lexington or to Charlotte (which is where a lot of ppl my hometown my sister's age ended up) does absolutely nothing for the region. It actually makes it worse.

Its not going to help the region, but the individual can help themselves.
