No ... postseason matchups in all of the other classes (A-5A) are strictly based on geography. In 6A, the westernmost district was matched up with District 5 (the Louisville district that includes Trinity) two years ago, then District 2 last year and District 4 this year.
This means that, in some years, Trinity and St. Xavier can meet in the state championship, and in some years they meet earlier in the playoffs.
I went and looked at the playoff parings and now see what you mean. But since all 3 districts are in the same general area, that actually makes sense not to send 1 district on the road every year.

Maybe I missed something? Has Russellville been playing up in 3a? And now they are 1a? What is up with that?
-
Well said.
Let's face it ... the KHSAA is very conscious of the Trinity-St. Xavier dominance. Why else does 6A have a rotation system with districts for the playoffs, something that none of the other five classes employs?
what do you mean here? there has been a rotation in 1A....I think.
-
this was screwed up years ago when they went to 6 classes!
-
BB offense might be to much for WV D! if WV can tackle better this week they could pull off a win!
Tackle? did they even put a hand on vocke? IMO, guys have to learn how to get off blocks first.
-
Of course people are going to say stuff about the distances and how Trinity and St. X are in the same district. Even if they wernt they should at least be on the same side of the bracket due to the geographic location. It's hard to argue that they should be in the same district geographically though.

but now only one can be district champ!

Bellevue, Beechwood, Dayton and Ludlow....just like the good ole days, except these aren't the good ole days! The declining enrollment of the river schools doesn't allow them to compete every year like it used to be. Lets hope the development along the river helps those guys out.
-
That's what I'm thinking. Could this make the T and X game bigger. They are going to meet for the District Championship ever year, and then meet again for the Regional Championship. I think it might make the match up bigger.
From what I heard on BGP this weekend I thought St X dropped football!
-
Should I assume that there will be no statement from the KHSAA as to how they came up with the alignment?
I heard it was something scientific like out of hat or dartboard...but that is just rumor!
-
I think there are two newer schools that have been added to the mix, maybe three since we went to six classes.
Then the change is % playoffs teams is not related to recent alignment changes but to new schools!
-
If I'm not mistaken that is an increase, I think currently only 18% don't make the playoffs. I'm not a 100% on that though.
why would it have changed? There are still 6 classes with 32 teams from each class making the playoffs. It really doesn't matter if the teams are in different classes now!
-
Cooper got put into an awesome situation. SK will be driving a lot.
not really true. They on have 3 district games so they only have to travel that far for at most 2 regular season games.
I think the KHSAA just made something bad even worse!

I'll have to disagree with with the penalities accounting for the first touchdown and the first two touchdowns were against the first team. Walton had a few penalities that were questionable. Yes I agree that Beechwood was on the next level and congrats to them! Walton will be fine and need to focus on next weeks game with Brossart. As to #58 and a punch, I never saw that.
I said it was aided by penalties. Didn't mean to say it wouldn't have happened.
WV second TD came after the BW fumble recovery for TD. There were plenty of reserves on the field after that BW TD.
The comment regarding the punch was directed toward post #7. It happened in the Holy Cross game a few weeks ago not last night.
-
Does anyone have some info on this game? Looks like Lou Holy Cross had a 35 point 2nd quarter. Looks like the game went 0-7, 7-7, 14-7, 14-14, 21-14, 28-14, 28-21, 35-21, 42-21, 42-28, 49-28, 56-28. Most have been real exciting in the beginning.
-
Too much Cameron Vocke tonight. Walton's offense did move the ball tonight with Bob Baumgartner rushing for 128 yards and a TD. No, it was not all against the second team. Defensively, not a good showing. Bearcats will be all right and need to get prepared for Brossart.
The first score was against the 1's and was aided by a few penalties. The fumble early in the drive was given to Walton when it looked like beechwood clearly recovered the ball. What did the refs call on that? The last 2 TDs and a lot of the yards were against the 2nd team. Walton was a lot worse than Beechwood's 1st team and a little better than 2nd team.
I expected more of game early on which really wasn't there. Yes the score was 14-6 at one point but Beechwood still looked like they had it in control. There are some nice players for Walton. The Walton QB #12 looked good and from talking with him mom he is a junior. What is the age of the starting lineup? If younger they could be good in the future.
Not sure I understand Beechwood's logic in having the big lineman in the second row of kickoff return against a team that squib kicks the ball. Against a better team I could see that costing them.
With regard to #58. Was it really a punch? I don't think so as he would have been ejected from the sideline.

Mayfield may be considered the favorite, but the road to Bowling Green includes likely stops at Louisville Holy Cross and Beechwood ... let's hold off on the crazy stuff.
or possibly frankfort?

Blackwatch
Are you planning to come to Mayfield for the trophy presentation? If so you may want to call the school as spots are limited and it will be a coat and tie affair
I had my reservation to come last year but it didn't work out as planned!:sssh:

They get to host all the way through don't they. Does that help them?
-
I figured I would throw in my two cents and get another Highlands thread going so we can hear all kinds of bickering.
Do they like steak, potatoes, Lasagna.....just curious.
I heard Jeff Ruby provides steak!

there always seem to be mysterious holding calls on long TD runs when the score gets out of hand in Northern KY. Don't they do that down south/west??
-
This score is a lot closer than I would have thought Cov Cath would romp.
-
Scott looked very impressive. The guys on the line were big and mobile, #21 is stud running back, #12 a very good quarterback that can run and pass but #3 was my favorite. I think his name was Josh Castleman. Smallest kid on the field but to me he had the biggest impact. Could run the ball but defensively he could hit and make excellent one on one tackles.
Congrats Eagles

Beechwood does have a few 7/8th graders starting. QB is a 7th and is coming along nicely. There are 8th graders on the line and linebacking core. Most players do come from the spartans but there are a several kids that don't start playing football till 8th/9th grade that actually have turned to be major contributors (Ryan Amelung). Some would say they rely on the Boone County Pee Wee Football league as well. :sssh:

Beechwood dont have many that are not playing in the vasity games anyway do they?
Not true. There are quite a few not seeing the field.

do they just take the top 2 teams? In the smaller division they top 4 and have 1 playoff game.
