Cottingham has picked 9 runner off bases this year three of them off second, and I could count on one hand of pass balls.
Popham is the better hitter and I guarantee only maybe has 3 pass balls.
-
I'm going with Holy Cross winning 6-3. The Blue Colonels are overrated.

going into the last weeks of the regular season, here's my take on the best of 9th Region---any thoughts, additions, comments?
OF--Leeke (Beechwood), Sullivan (NewCath), Rebholz (CampCo), Norton (Brossart)3B---Hempfel (Ryle), Teegarden (CampCo)
SS--Clarkson (Ryle), Hightchew, (NewCath)
2B--Bertke (Beechwood), ???
1B--Laumann (Boone), Schmits (NewCath)
C-- (CovCath's guy--name???), Cottingham (Beechwood)
P--Fuller (Holy Cross), Teegarden (Boone), Isler (Ryle), Cain (NewCath), Sexton (Dixie), Fardo (Brossart)
Looking for additions, comments--I'm limited to teams I've seen play
You cant be being serious here. The guys I put in bold I either dont agree with or they arent even in the 9th region. Also I think you should add Popham(Dixie) at catcher because he probably has the highest average out of both of those guys and I guarantee is better defensively. Also add DeMatteo to the list of shortstops. Besides maybe Clarkson from Ryle, DeMatteo is the smoothest shortstop up here.

For the record the Ads pitcher is named Rob Caudill, not Ross. I got mixed up.
-
Would Ollier be considered BB's #1?
In all honesty I would say so. I would say probably Norton or Fardo was the presumed #1 for the staff before the season. But in my eyes right now how good Ollier has thrown against Danville, Dixie Heights, and Elder I think I would consider him for the top spot.
-
Indeed a great game. Ollier was un-hittable tonight against a very very good hitting Admirals team. His off speed was definateyl working and kept the Ads off balance all game. The Ross Caudill for the Ads was also very good except the first inning. The first inning was when Brossart did their damage and scored all 3 runs. After that Caudill was also very controlling of the game. The Ads made an attempt at a rally that fell just short in the 5th inning pushing two runs across the board.
Nice game for both teams as either team would be a tough game for Prestonburg down at Whitaker Field.
-
Who will be pitching for both teams tonight? I would imagine Norton would throw for the 'Stangs.

Understand there were 2 scouts at this game scouting players from Boone & Dixie. Anyone know which 2 schools and who they were scouting?
Miami (Oh) and Union College were both there. I heard Miami made an offer to Popham and Sexton from Dixie and Union made an offer to Sexton from Dixie as well. I was also told that one of the two was there to watch Cole Wendeln from Boone County also.
-
Now there were 5 errors? HMMMM...
I wasn't there, therefore I am going by word of mouth by another parent. Not just any parent but a Boone parent. Boone could have just as easily had 7 or 8 hits off Sexton. That is just what I was told.

Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR
#7 Tyler Sexton 7.0 8 3 3 4 8 0
#6 East Conner 1.0 4 3 3 0 2 0
I was told that there were 5 errors in the field that people reached on base by. So did you count them as hits or what?
-
Sorry SF99 I wasn't implying that Sexton and Pops HR's weren't legitimate, just that some HR numbers you read about can be explained by where they were hit at!
Oh yeah TOG I knew you weren't implying that I was just simply laying it out there.
-
Not a huge fan of BA but what impressive me are OBP and rbi's. HR's on the HS level are so overrated as some fields are so short (St. Mary BB and Boone Co come to mind) that HR's there are just pop up outs at a lot of other fields!
Pophams 3 homeruns were at SK(1) Highlands(2)
Sextons 5 homeruns were at Harrison County (1) Dixie(4)

That would be a change to Ryle's previously-posted schedule for the tourney this weekend at Scott County. They are - or at least were - scheduled to play Scott County Friday night, and then Tates Creek and LCA (Lou. Christian Academy) on Saturday. But I suppose with all this rain it's very possible that teams are dropping out of tournaments in order to get in district games. Nothing personal, but I hope Ryle plays a Lexington or Louisiville team than play a NKY opponent they've already faced twice this year.
I agree 100% We will see this weekend though, Coop!
-
I agree 100%. That would be a very interesting matchup. And I suspect if they meet up again (regionals), that is the very matchup we will indeed see!
Well word going around the Dixie community is that their next meeting will be this weekend in Scott County in a tournament of some type or round robin. Dixie plays Tates Creek Friday night and come back down to Scott Count to play Ryle and someone else I cant think of. But I would imagine that Dixie wont throw Sexton against Ryle this weekend, I would say probably Tates Creek Friday night.

What do you mean you weren't at the game. Every other game you comment on wind, weather, too many games night before, field work wearing you out.
Some of us do this thing about 5 days a week, sometimes 6 days. Its called having a job. So thats why I wasnt there Friday. Spartan get real, when have I complained about anything besides the Ryle game? Name another time. I have work tomorrow so I'll be getting off of here, leave me a reply on here and I will get back to it when I get home from my job.
Thanks,
SF99

Sexton pitched 7 innings in this game. Coming up with 9 K's and 3 walks and 3 hits allowed. Held the Rebels scoreless until the 7th inning. I wasnt at this game but heard that the top half of the 7th inning was VERY controversial. Can someone inform me?

Brad Popham BA- .507 3 HR's
Tyler Sexton BA- .485 5 HR's
-
I guess it doesn't count because he added the caveat "Not making any excuses" . . . . (but then rattled off three lines worth of them).
Was there anything special behind Dixie's 7-2 loss to Ryle a week ago? Sun in their eyes? Wind blowing in only while they were at bat? School cafeteria ran out of ice cream sandwiches at lunch and had the boys distracted?
How did you know Coop? Everything you just named off happened when they played them at Freedom! How ironic. But no in all reality Dixie just got out played and Ryle is very good. I would like to see Ryle's hitting vs. Sexton's pitching. That would be a good game.
-
Not making any excuses for the Colonels as there isn't any for such a lop sided score but they did play 2 games the previous night and their last game last night did not get finished until 11 30 and most of the kids didn't get home until 12 15 or 12 30 because of the field duty they had to put in after the game. You could tell they were physically exhausted having to be there at the ball park at 8 30am for a 10am game.
-
I was told by someone that Laumann was going for Boone. :idunno:
I was told by a source that Laumann was throwing against the Bluebirds at Champion Windows Field at 7 30. I would probably guess Howard Brodsky will be on the hill for the Rebels against Dixie Heights.
-
I don't think Teegarden will be pitching but I'm still going with Boone in this one 8-3.
With neither Laumann or Teegarden pitching and Sexton pitching I'm taking the Colonels 5-2.
-
So Boone is playing Dixie and Highlands tomorrow?
I was just told that the Dixie vs. Boone game tomorrow will be played as the first round of the Doc Morris tournament that they are trying to make up this weekend. Its possible they will play the Bluebirds after the Colonels. I know the Colonels play Boone @ 5 and Ludlow @7.
-
Game will be played tomorrow at 5pm at Dixie Heights. Rematch of last years Regional Championship game. Who comes out on top? I heard Doug Teegarden will be on the hill for the Rebels and Tyler Sexton for the Colonels.

Cov Cath is supposed to play Dixie Heights in a make up game today. With Beechwood and Holy Cross playing at Freedom I dont see Cov Cath getting this game in.
Dixie Heights 10 Ryle 3

Matt Isler threw for the Raiders.
Conner East threw a complete game for the Colonels.
