  1. I agree with you on the Maines foul....we all said the same thing, it made no sense. Either the shot was good or the shot didn't count due to the foul being before the shot. We said the same thing when it happened. If she was fouled when she was shooting there should of been a traveling call before the foul, but what I thought happened was she was fouled before the shot and it should of been Conner's ball out of bounds because I don't think they were in the bonus yet. you are right that was a big time screw up.

With that said, as I said earlier there were a lot of fouls not called and several traveling calls that weren't called that benefitted Conner. There was no Nell Factor, if there was then it was to go against her.

So we will agree to disagree. I don't want the officiating to take away from a great game played by both teams. I wasn't the one who brought up the officiating in the first place.

I did bring up the ref's because I thought some bad calls were mad, as I stated not the reason one team won or the other lost. You stated the game was called evenly and I think if you look at the foul totals prior to Boone fouling to stop the clock Conner was called for twice as many up to the 6 minute mark in the fourth. Boone was shooting the double bonus before Conner got one for one. Also a lot of the calls made in that second half were outside the square. With that said Boone played better, Conner missed two key one and ones and a game winning shot. They lost, period!

  2. I was behind the scorers table and from what i could gather from the explanation was that the ref said she made 2 attempts at the shot. He said she started her shot got fouled and started a second shot that went in. Very confusing.

Interesting, I was close to the floor and I did not hear a whistle until after the shot went in, oh well like Hellbird stated water under the bridge.

  3. Not at all. Conner got by with several travels and no call on fouls and finally the last few minutes of the game they started calling the fouls that were there all game.

As well as some flopping going on, but as I said it's water under the bridge....neither side will ever feel they got the calls they thought they should get so I'll leave it at that.

Conner was down 10/5 at about 6 or 7 minutes in the fourth. Boone fouled a lot toward the end to stop the clock and based on Conner missing two front ends of one and ones it worked. Also how does the Maines call work, she was given two foul shots but the shot that went in did not count? What am I missing if she was in the act of shooting the the shot should of counted. How do say the shot is no good but she was in the acting of shooting so you get two free throws? Again I am not saying the refs lost Conner the game, they missed their opportunity to win but if you did not see the Nell factor then we disagree, respectfully.

  4. Tonight I saw why Jones has a D-1 scholarship. She has really stepped up her offensive game and is simply all over the floor on defense. Boone shot lights out in the first half. Conner played hard and had their share of chances to win it but just fell short. I did think the refs favored Boone in the second half but certainly would not be the reason for the Conner loss. I am sure a lot of people will form an opinion as to why they lost but in the end Boone and how they played was the difference. Congratulations to Boone and the Conner girls should walk away holding their heads held up high. Good luck to the seniors as they move forward onto college.

  5. Obviously any team plays best when the regular seasoned starters are all on the floor & healthy. Not taking anything away from Pluto because she is good & a team leader but any coach would be lucky to have Gambrel as their back up!! She may be only a freshman, but she knows the game & would be starter for many other schools!!

You win some, you lose some, but great learning comes from those losses so don't count Conner out just yet!!! I bet they bounce back bigtime in these last games of the season!!

Good luck to Conner the balance of the year and here is to a speedy recovery for Emily.

  6. I think her injury will nag her the rest of the season.

I will however disagree a little with your statement. At times in games I see her try and do to much resulting in very bad decisions. Shot seletion sometimes is not the best during that period. When she is patient and use her floor presence she gets the job done. She seems to slip in and out of that zone. They need her to play 4

    quarters in the zone.

Everyone on that team makes bad decisions and forces shots, I think your statement only proves my point. Conner needs the team to play four quarters and not just Pluto.

  7. She had her team hold the ball in order to increase her team's chance of success.

Her team had the lead. One could argue that Conner sitting back in the zone while losing was no different. Aaron could have forced the action by going to man. No one is arguing he was trying to limit how bad he got beat, right?

Much ado about nothing and good coaching.

Everyone has their opinion and yours is not always gospel.

  8. Also the Refs were horrible last night and bad calls went both ways. I do feel however and this I give coach Fookes credit for is more fouls seem to go her way than not. I am not going to name names but two out of the three refs from last night game were awful. Not saying that is why Boone won or Conner lost but they were terrible!

  9. I sat right behind Fookes Bench last night and I did not hear anything vulgar come from the stands at Coach Fookes. All i heard was play ball! I find this far from vulgar.

I also was near the Boone bench and the only vulgarity was from Coach Fookes herself. Did not hear any other comments other than a loud cheer from the Conner fans when Hendricks stole the ball while Boone was playing slow down. I agree a coach does what it takes to win but if it takes not competing then I would rather my team go down trying as opposed to giving up and telling your players "we have the lead, so let's hold the ball because other wise we will get beat" that is the only message a coach is sending to the players when they hold the ball.

  10. I do not think people are giving Emily Pluto enough credit and her not being on the floor last night I thought hurt Conner. I know she has not been flashy and is not as quick as Castleberry from last year but she brings a lot of floor presence when she is playing. The biggest thing about her is she allows the players around her to do what they do well and when she is not on the floor her teammates are forced to do other things. Now I am not taking away from Gambrel at all and she does a nice job but I think Conner needs Pluto to be healthy down the stretch. Does anyone know how bad her ankle injury was last night?

  11. I agree with you on Meyers. I look for her to have an excellent season. Coach Stamm is counting on Gambrel and the other outstanding freshmen (Hendricks) to really step up their games this season. It should be an exciting year for the Lady

Pluto and Scott are returning starters and I think that combined experience will be key. The other players mentioned all have big potential but still need to adjust to playing varsity on a regular basis. I hope the other players mentioned adjust quickly to playing full time varsity, that is a big jump! I think Pluto is also a key and will have a big year. To my knowledge she has been visiting schools and has received some D3 offers.

Not sure where you get your information but Emily has been visiting schools for academics and to this point has not received any BB offers. She is focusing on her academics and this upcoming season and will see where that takes her. Appreciate your support for her as a player.

  12. I agree Conner needs to compete and play themselves into a district championship! The 33rd is Boone's and Ryle's to lose. Let' s not all forget what happened to the Conner boys with all the pre season hype a couple of years ago. I like what coach Stamm has done and he will have the girls ready but the games are won and lost on the floor. Good Luck to the Lady Cougars and focus on winning games one at a time!

  13. Beechwood is not my team. I just think it was funny how a 5A team that people say are going to win state struggled with a 1A program that had to replace 20 Seniors.

I am Conner fan and believe they need to play 10 + games to even begin to think about a state championship.

  14. I have had the pleasure to watch Jordan since the 4th grade. This young lady absolutely loves the game, first one in the gym and the last one to leave. I wish Jordan and her shinning stars teammates the best of luck. Someone is going to get a player that loves basketball and is a true talent!

    Go Lady Cougars

  15. 1. True

    2. I will be honest, that I don't care about HS football in the slightest. And only did for the 3-4 years when I was in school and that's just because I had buddies playing.

    3. The part about leadership was more referring to 12willyp12's post. I should have quoted his too, my apologies.

MJ I would agree we have different views on leaders, most interesting thing to me around this whole conversation is as I went to KSHAA web site today I could not help but notice the primary photo of a young golfer was headlined by saying "young athletes of today makes future leaders", that from a governing body that believes in crowning only one champion in BB Ball, I will stick with my belief more champions will make many more future leaders and allow a lot more young athletes enjoy the lifetime experience of winning a championship.

  16. Agreed. Good post.
What benefit is there to hundreds of kids that get left out because there is ONE champion? Interesting to me that there is an all A tournament which I attended for the first time this year and thought it was great, why not 2A classic and so on. In my opinion because so many think this is the best tournament including KSHAA that the opportunity to help build many more young champions that eventually will become leaders would go a lot further than crowning one PURE champion. Kentucky has classifications in almost every other sport. We live in a politically correct society that has broaden so many channels to allow children to excel why not KSHAA basketball. just my 2 cents
