  1. BB guns should not be allowed on campus and should be handled by the police in a manner as a weapon. It may be as some perceive as just BB guns but used in environments of poor judgement could harm someone possibly seriously. The sound of a BB gun versus other weapons to those incnicendenty not involved could cause concern. In terms of who has BB guns versus guns less harmful I would not speak for as the authorities will sort out those details. There are students who are working extremely hard taking challenging courses to achieve professional degrees and UK like any other college should be about education and the safety of all students FIRST. I wish the best of the luck to the young men involved and believe they deserve to overcome their por judgement and wish they learn from their experiences.

  2. I was sitting next to a scout and he said the rule in Ky is that the catcher can block the plate if the ball is in his hands. The scout felt it was very close and the ump made a judgment call. It happened very fast so I could not tell but I thought the catcher did not have the ball before he blocked the plate. With that said I always believe teams play into wins and loses and if that is what CCH fans felt lost the game then I would argue there was a very good Conner team that played the better game tonight. CCH players were class acts and represented a great program the way one would expect from a CCH student athlete. Congrats to both teams and look forward to rooting on the Cougars in the championship game.

    Go Cougars!

  3. Yea it is fun to watch how she helps players around her reach their full potential. She has also been a great leader of the court as well and is doing very well academically.

Even when she was beating my daughters team year after year I always said she is one of those type players that comes along every 20 years or so. It has been an honor getting to know her for sure.

  4. Interesting article on the D3 Hoops website. A player named Lauren Avant who has lead Rhodes College for 3 years now originally started at University of Tennessee where she saw some of action for then the number 1 Lady Vols. She was recruited by Pat Summit and she was a state champ her junior year as well as Ms. basketball in the state of Tennessee. Unfortunately she had injury problems her freshman year and played only 152 minutes. UT wanted her back but she wanted to de-emphasize basketball and felt she could not do that at UT. She has had a stellar career at Rhodes where she leads the team in several categories including scoring. Just ONE example of top D1 talent choosing to play D3 ball. The D3 hoops website is a good one to follow D3 hoops and I recommend BGP's try the site out. They also have a nice article on Thomas More.

  5. NASCAR? That's your analogy?

The challenge here is that people who have daughters/friends/loved ones who play D3 get offended when you say Syd is playing below her level. The D3 kids are really nice players. Heck, had my daughter decided to play college athletics she , too, would have been a D3 athlete. She played softball. Syd playing bad D3 teams is like saying Cat Osterman threw a perfect game against Thomas More.

There's a reason there are bunch of talent levels between high D1 and D3.

By the way no one is offended because you think "they" feel that your comments degrade the talent level of D3 players, no one said that until you brought it up!! My issue is that an accomplishment was acheived and question why anyone would need to question that accomplishment as opposed to congratulating the person for the feat. As I am sure you know my daughter plays D3 and I am very proud of her to be on her team. Also like most D3 athletes my duaghter is a student first and is going to college for a future and an education.

  6. "D1 quality" is different than "high major."

Syd could do this again if she shoots 41 times. It's up to her.

A better baseball example would be stud pitcher from UNC/LSU/UCLA pitching a perfect game against Centre.

Man you need to be right so bad that you just cant give the young lady some credit? Clyde I respect your post and opinions, normally spot on but give the young lady some credit. Great accomplishment and NKY is very frutunate to have Sydney back home where she feels is the best place for her!!

  7. Because there weren't any high major D1 players trying to break it.

Also one last point, with so many positive aspects of Sydney coming to T More I am confused why anyone would find a way to scrutinize her being at T More. There is also a D2 transfer on this team that leads the nation in 3pt percentage is that not an accomplishment as well? In addition there is speculation that another D1 prospect may be coming to T More as well as the best point guard in the NKY. T More is a top 5 D3 program that attracts a lot of very good ball players.

  8. So if I scored 63 in a K-1 game this weekend, would it be a great accomplishment? I'm in no way trashing Moss but 63 at the D3 level isn't good, but nothing great. She's way better than that level.

OK, I agree with several post after mine, the NASCAR analogy is a bad one, Sydney is obviously a top D1 player but I do think scoring 63 points to me was impressive and it was very fun to watch. Everyone has their opinion!

  9. OK, so then you are saying that a statement like "that is what happens when a top d1 plays d3" or better yet as Clyde put it "I am not impressed with Sydney's 63 points" is not diminishing? I understand the point, you both feels she is too good but as an example a lot of NASCAR Cup racers run the lower series but do they also win by multiple laps. Anyone who scores 63 points is accomplishment, even if someone was over and above the talent they competed against.

  10. D1 players play D3 on a yearly basis and a small few make it to the pro's. look at Pierre Garçon, my guess his D3 accomplishments were not impressive either? Sydney made a personal choice that she felt was in her personal best interest. To diminish what she accomplished is a joke and I am not impressed with your observation. For the record there were three D1 transfers into D3 on the lady side this year and it occurs on a yearly basis.

Garçon started his college career at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. As a freshman in 2004, he played in ten games and had 44 receptions for 1,017 yards and 13 touchdowns. Wanting to play in a more football oriented program, he transferred to Mount Union College in the Ohio Athletic Conference. He averaged over 60 catches, 1000 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career as a Purple Raider. While at Mount Union he led the team to two consecutive Div III National Championships, falling just short of a third.[4] During his sophomore season in 2005, he earned Ohio Athletic Conference second-team honors after having 68 receptions for 1,196 yards and 16 touchdowns. As a junior, he was named to the Ohio Athletic Conference first-team and was the recipient of the Ed Sherman Award for the OAC's most outstanding receiver.[5] That season, he was third in the nation with 1,212 receiving yards and had 67 receptions with 17 touchdowns. As a senior in 2007, Garçon was Ohio Athletic Conference first-team and was the recipient of the Ed Sherman Award, for the second time. He had 67 receptions for 955 yards and 14 touchdowns.[6]

During his time at Mount Union, he was teammates with fellow wide receiver, Cecil Shorts III.[7]

  11. Kuntz took over the #1 spot proving he has better leg speed and getting the win.

Was at the game and Kuntz was very good but he is not as good as Drew Barker. Kuntz had a stronger line with more holes to run and receivers that had more success catching the ball for this game. Barker was rushed passing most of the night and SK had a great game plan not allowing him any room to run. Hope Conner can do a better job protecting Drew. With that said SK is the top 6a team NKY and only won by a touchdown so there is hope for the Cougars.

  12. Then do away with the transfer rule.

I have only been following KY high school sports for a few years now but it seems to me the transfer rule is a joke!

I believe there are numerous examples of where the KSHAA has allowed transfers for various reasons. The only one I can think that they disallowed over the last couple of years was the kid down near Hazard. I do not remember his name or the schools involved but thought it was in the Hazard area?

  13. Here is my take, I think Boone and Holmes can create an advantage with the bigger floor. To me if Holmes comes out and plays athletic like they are capable of doing they could run some teams and they have the most athleticism which a larger floor could help. I also think because Boone is pretty athletic themselves and move so well without the ball they could also run on some teams. Also I think the bigger floor gives Jones that much more of an advantage. I think Boone could surprise some people and predict they will give ND a good game. If Boone keeps the floor wide open I think that will take away a little of ND's size and reach advantage. Should be fun to watch and I wish all the teams the best of luck.

  14. I agree with your post minus the last statement, no one is blaming the refs. Conner had their chances and had some critical turnovers within the last few minutes and as stated previously missed opportunites on the front end of one and ones.

I agree no one said the refs won or lost the game for either team. I also think we all know what mistakes Conner made down the stretch. I suggest we all let the healing process begin for these kids because I know they feel terrible. It is bad enough they lost and their season is over but I think it is time to simply say Boone was better and Conner lost. It is a team game and no matter what happened in the last four minutes there were several things that put them in that position that happens during the rest of the game. This was a great game and it is a shame someone had to lose.

  15. Clyde great observation, as you say this I think I do recall her making a forward motion and then pulled back, timing however was off because the whistle did not blow until after she shot the second time and the ball went in. It all was split second but what is the official ruling on timing of a call, she made an attempt got fouled but the whistle did not blow until after the second attempt. Look forward to your input.

Tell me where the play started. Was Maines out on the perimeter and drove to the basket? Sounds like the foul was from behind, correct? When did she pick up the dribble?

She was driving, stopped, pumped faked but DID NOT release the ball, and on a second attempt with her RELEASING ball her shot goes in, whistle blows, two foul shots were given but the basket did not count. At that time Boone had 5 team fouls so no one and one. The more I think about this was a blown call, many fouls are missed and play goes on and even though this was split second the ref should not blow a whistle and then determine the outcome based on a previous play, spilt second or not! IMO opinion the 2 points should have counted and the missed call prior should have fell into the refs do the best they can category!

  16. I didn't see it but my guess is that the shooting motion indeed had started. Most fans don't realize when it starts.
