Who makes it to Rupp?
-
So the below teams are in with the top team being the winner and the below team being the runner-up:
36th
Newport Central Catholic
Newport
35th
Covington Holmes
Covington Catholic
34th
St. Henry District
Dixie Heights
33rd
Larry A. Ryle
Boone County
and the draw I would love to see:
Top team would be the home team!
1. Covington Holmes
vs
Boone County
2. Newport Central Catholic
vs.
Dixie Heights
3. St. Henry District
vs.
Covington Catholic
4. Larry A. Ryle
vs.
Newport
Switch Boone and Dixie and your draw is right

I love Evans Fieldhouse. Its wide open, no backboards hanging on the sides, no bad seats in the house, can always see the scoreboard.
-
The top 3 rated teams may be on the other side of the bracket but Ryle just blasted Boone the other night so some could argue they are the #2 team in the tournament. CovCath has beaten NewCath as well. Any given night most of these teams have the ability to knock off the other.
Thats what I mean, anyone can beat anyone. According to everyone, Holmes is beatable, and I would put Ryle at #2 the way they demolished Boone and have already proven they can beat Holmes. I'll still take Holmes to make it 4 straight to Rupp.
-
I'd say brackets are pretty evenly stacked. Good teams on both sides.
-
I'd like to see a Sewell/Johnson matchup happen in the semi's of the Sweet 16. Winner goes to championship game and pretty much seals up Mr. Basketball. Anyone else agree on this?
-
Imo the leading candidate should be Ricardo Johnson of Holmes. He has led the Bulldogs to 2 straight 9th Region titles and 2 straight State Final games winning the MVP in last yrs victory. If he can lead the Bulldogs once again to the Sweet 16 and get to the final four it should be his.
I really like how Josh Sewell has come on this season and excelled in big tourneys against bigtime competition though. If he can take his team into the Sweet 16 and possibly win a state title then it probably goes to him.
All are fantastic players.
I totally agree, everyone has seem to have forgotten about him just because Holmes has not blown people out and he is not scoring 20 points per game. He is a team player and always guards the other teams's best player and usually shuts him down. I think the Sweet 16 will determine Mr. Basketball, especially if Holmes meets Trinity or Ballard in the tournament.
-
49-41 Holmes 3+ left in 4th.
-
Holmes defense this year is the best I have ever seen. And their press makes them scary good.
-
Wow, does this count as an upset?
-
31-19 Holmes at half.
-
Are you there or listening to it?
-
But Highlands was expected to be the 2nd best team in the area, I'm not saying that their not a good team, just wasn't expected.
-
Holmes is 7-1, with the lone loss to Ryle. But they play Cov Cath tonight in Park Hills
-
The 10th is lucky enough to have two huge HS venues while the Ninth doesn't. Sorry Holmes, Conner, and Ryle aren't anywhere as near as nice, as The Fieldhouse and or Montgomery County Arenas are!
Remember it is about the kids (meaning the players) and they love playing at the BOKC compared to the above three gyms!
Think about the Villa girls and their players chances of playing in a huge arena like the BOKC, or the majority of the players who will never get to play in Rupp!
Don't you think this is a thrill for them to step onto a floor like the BOKC instead of the same HS gyms that they play in year after year?
I was not impressed with the Fieldhouse, if you sit in the upper section it is hard to see a scoreboard because the side rims are in the way.
-
I'd say it was an upset seeing how I dont think anyone expected Newport to be this good this year, and Highlands was expected to be the 2nd best team in the area behind Holmes.
-
I think this game will come down to the end, Cov Cath is always tough at home. I think the colonels will get some extra energy from their "Colonel Crazies" in the stands and put up a fight that will push the Bulldogs to the limit. But in the end Holmes wins this with their defense.
-
I don't like it being at the BOKC either. If it was packed every night, I would have no problem, but even last year having 2 regional finals in one night couldnt pack the place. Hopefully the 9th comes to its senses and goes back to the 3 school rotation.
-
Stick'in with the Bulldogs since my Birds went down. Toooooooooooooo much talent unless something dramatic happens. No one can match up with Pittman and I mean nobody. I know a lot of people don't like his attitude and showmanship (I'm not a big fan) but the boy can flat out bring it on the basketball court NO ONE will have an answer when it comes crunch time. I mean N-O-B-O-D-Y.
Ricardo will refuse to let his team lose he's a winner and JJ can bring it also. Thats 3 reasons why Holmes will capture its third straight regional title and go on to make history and repeat as State Champs.
Will actually be their 4th straight title if they win it this year, which I believe they will do. They have stepped up their pressure in their past two games and will continue to dominate defensively, as the old saying goes, offense wins ballgames, Defense wins championships.
-
If Holmes presses I think they will be tough to knock out of the region.
-
Can anyone provide score updates?
-
Good, I was hoping they would, I think their size and athleticism is too much when they press.
-
Is Holmes pressing?

I would rather see HC stay in the 35th as its always fun to see Holmes/Holy Cross play each other, because its always a game between people who know each other for a long time.

Holmes is 8-1, with lone loss coming to Ryle and beating CovCath and Newport twice.
