  1. Does anyone realize that out of the 20 teams ranked on bluegrass final rankings, only 4 of them are left? And those four teams face off tonight. I think this session will be the best session of the whole tournament. Anyone else agree? Could this be the best session in years?

  2. I was really impressed everyone contributed to the game today, only thing that scares me is their lazy passes and no help when a ball handler is in trouble. I agree the refs were whistle happy today and in my opinion there were a lot of ticky tack fouls on both teams. But glad to see Holmes pull it out. 1 down, 3 to go. Go Dogs!

  3. Don't get too caught up in how many points a team averages. It hasn't seemed to matter this year against Holmes. Scott Co averages in the low 80's on the year and was held to 65 by Holmes. Bryan Station averages in the low 80's as well and was held to 56. Ballard averages in the high 60's, low 70's and was held to 41, and last but not least, Boone averages 62 ppg and was held to 45 and 29 against Holmes. How many of those teams are still playing?

Again, offense sells tickets, defense wins championships.

I heard these same comments last year before Holmes played high scoring Paintsville and Lexcath...all Holmes did in those two games was hold both to season lows offensively on their way to the state title game....where they also held a loaded Mason County team to their third lowest output of the year.[/QUOTE]

    AMEN!

  4. Elliott Co. has not needed to play defense, doesen't mean they can't. If they play Holmes they will play both ends of the floor. Holmes has scored 70+ eight times this year and Elliott has scored below 70 only twice this season. No team is going to hold Elliott in the low 30's, won't happen. Most may not know this but Elliott Co.s boys have played over 1500 games together, so they have a little experience too." Elliott gives up almost 60 ppg. Holmes on the year is giving up just 46 ppg." I'll add to that , Holmes has averaged 60 ppg and Elliott has averaged 86 ppg. I really hope they get to this game.

How many of them have tournament experience? I too would love to see this game and see which is better, elliot county's offense or holmes defense. Would make a great game

  5. You have to remember that the students and bands sit on the ends of the arena and everyone else sits in the middle. Students have yet to come out in any numbers to cheer for their home teams. Everybody gets spread out in the big arena.

Dixie brought the biggest student crowd so far. But the administration paid for their seats.

Most students didn't buy their own tickets as their high school principal bought 300 tickets for students and faculty

  6. It seems like every game Holmes plays, there are people talking about how every team could pull the upset.

It seems that unless you blow teams out of the water, any team can upset you. While the dogs have had close games this season, its those games that measure your toughness. I believe the dogs can go all the way this year.

  7. Holmes, in general, seems to never have a good student body crowd on hand and that disappoints me as they have one of the premier programs in the state. Thats not a knock on them at all just an observation....

I myself am an alumnus of Holmes, and it is down right pathetic that we have no student section. I have been attending games since I was 10 cause my brother went to school there as well, and the only time we even had something close to a student section for basketball was 2001-2002. Everyone is more worried about talking to their friends during the game rather than cheering on their team. When I went to games and still go, I root for the team when the game is going on. I'm not saying I want a section like Cov Cath's, although it would be nice, but lets fill up at least part of the end section. I believe kids are worried about getting made fun of if they are in a student section.

  8. The Bulldogs look like they are gearing up for the run. That is Beechwood's lowest point total of the season. I thought Beechwood would keep it a little closer than this, expecting perhaps a 12 point win or so for Holmes. Holmes defense went to work in the district games and that is what it will take to make a run at the state title.

Very true. as the old saying goes...Offense wins ballgames, Defense wins CHAMPIONSHIPS!
