There is no question that lights are needed... sometimes they don't even stay on during games.... anyone remember the Ironton-Raceland scrimmage a few years ago??? Or the GC vs. Sheldon Clark game a few years ago... I thought Matney was going to have a stroke.....just remember these improvements are extremely expensive and are BOE and supt. decisions.... not building admin. decisions....:ylsuper:

It's obvious from many of the posts that have occured that many folks on this thread don't know a great deal about how schools or school systems run. So, let me enlighten you all on a few things... facilities improvments run into many thousands of dollars, and this is a decision only the Board of Education and Superintendent can make... the school-level administration does not have that kind of money.... I teach at GCHS and can promise everyone who cares that Baker and Ailster would LOVE to see the football program improve, they both played at GC, and continue to stay and taken the abuse that goes along with their positions because they want GCHS to improve....they will do anything within their power, but remember, some decisions must be made higher up the food chain... On a positive note, I hear that $50,000 in new weight room equipment has already been ordered and work is starting soon on the field... new sprinklers, crown, and Bermuda grass.... these are all decisions make at the BOE level...may this will help attract good applicants....

Finally, someone speaking the truth..... Maynard is a good coach and GC was lucky to have him, but he is NOT coming back, unless I vastly overestimate his intelligence.....

Sammons absolutely deserves credit for the nice playoff run last year... he put in a nice little 2 back set with two good athletes on either side of Craft that was very hard to defend....I'm not that familier with Nathan McPeek.... but after what Gary did at GC, who can doubt the coaching bloodlines in that family..... come to think of it.... how about a second McPeek coaching at GC??? The new head coach will be given the opportunity to bring in some assistant coaches with him... hopefully this will help improve the applicant pool.... and for the record, Sammons was given the same opportunity but didn't take it...

Maybe I should have said, younger, inexperienced players.... I agree that there were some pretty good skill position players for GC.... I think the Musketeers could have a bright future with the right coach... they have a strong sophomore class... most of which will be starting next year as juniors.... those kids will need to step up bigtime... and need to get in the weightroom NOW!!!

I agree... Zimmer is full of it.... everyone needs to stay calm... it's evidently going to be a while before a coach is hired.... which leaves plenty of time for the rumors to fly.....

1. Preston was replaced by a first year teacher... 2. the talent level at GC dropped dramatically from last year... they lost almost the entire offensive and defensive lines and their top 2 running backs....I also read some of your previous posts were you talked about GC being inexperienced..... 3. we'll see how long McPeek keeps him around.... 4. what does a membership to the Greg Preston fan club cost??? figured I'd ask you, since you're obviously the president.... 5. I don't have anything personal against GP, he's a nice guy and a good family man... he's just not the guy for the job at GC

Anyone who thinks Preston was the reason GC did well in the playoffs last year or is the reason Fairview did well this year is a complete idiot..... Preston tried to get back in at Raceland after GC let him go and Raceland didn't want him, what does that tell you? He talks a good game, and looks the part (I think everything the man owns is UnderArmour)... but he is NOT head coaching material!!!!! People in coaching and administration know this already....

The "garbage man" will be allowed to help recruit good applicants, but he will NOT make the final call.

I read in a previous post that the SBDM council had agreed to do a search, but to read some of Coupon 21's posts.... it sounds like he knows something is going on behind the scenes..... so my question is... what's up Coupon 21? Spill the beans!!!

it's my understanding that the council was told that if Dowdy, Tackett, or Maynard were interesed in coming to GC, that anyone one of them would have an outstanding shot at getting the job, but none of them are interested... The administration is very interested in having a good program and the new coach will have the opportunity to bring some assistants in with him... Sammons was given the same opportunity, but didn't take it....
