  1. Congratulations to Dixie now 10-0! This was a very exciting game and both teams played well. Smith seemed to score at will but Dixe just had too much fire power with probably 6 players in double figures. The refs were calling a lot of ticky tac fouls especially when Smith drove to the basket. Don't get me wrong, he played well but this prevented Dixie players from bodying him up.

  2. I think Pike has made leaps and bounds in the maturity category. He got frustrated as any competitive athlete would when you are on the receiving end of the whistle 3 straight trips up the floor. He has done a pretty darn good job keeping himself in check and I think that was pretty evident when facing the Connor and Highlands student sections. There were some pretty nasty things being yelled at him.

  4. You rank Trammell because he had a great summer season. I think he will bring more this season than anyone expects.

Interesting. I think Hodges at two is a little high for him right now. I will be one of the first to argue his potentl, but he needs to prove more. I didn't expect to see Trammel in there at all. Not because he isn't good enough, but he just didn't play last year. How do you rank him? Bradley is the biggest shocker. I agree with Walter that there are several other players who I feel are more deserving. Chris Hayes, Tyler Fangman, and Jacob Flesch all come to mind.[/QUO
  5. There's no question in my mind he is top 5. Very athletic, great defender, very nice shot, and can break down a defense by getting to the middle almost at will.

He is much quicker than Hatton and can get to the basket. Hatton is a great shooter if left alone but Trammel is better off of the bounce and can play better defense. Hatton is only an 8th grader...so who knows how much better he can become. The sky is the limit with him!

  6. Not even close....I'd take the following juniors over Trammel:

    Jake Geisler- Newcath

    Jake Thelen- Covcath

    Kevon Rice- Holmes

    Bobby Stauffer- Ryle

    Travis Montgomery- Boone Co

Trammel might not even be the best player on his team next year, let alone best senior in the region.

Okay, you just named the best 5 big men next year! Tell me who is a better point guard?

  7. Where does Matt Trammel rank in the mix. He just had minor back surgery but is expected to be back before districts. This is a kid that averaged 9 points for dixie as a sophomore and started the year with a 24 point game. If everything heels correctly from his surgery and he is 100%, I believe he is the #1 player in the region in next year senior class

  8. The officiating was absolutely ridiculous for both sides. There was no problem with either team's defense. The Ninth Region officiating is becoming a joke among the surrounding regions. When these teams go to other regions they get the crap beat out of them physically because they are expecting the whistle to blow because there was some contact. You have got to let them play with some physical content. When a game is determined by free throw count...something needs to be re-evaluated. It was a free throw contest last night not a basketball game with NCC being the winner.

  9. As far as I know you can. WIC is the only program with nutrition restrictions that I know of.

Many..many...many years ago there were restrictions as to what you were allowed to purchase with food stamps. You are correct in saying WIC is the only program that is providing food subsidies with nutritional restrictions. The new "food stamp" is an EBT card. It gets swiped like a debit card. I know many of these mom and pop stores that in addition to selling convenient store items also sell prepared food. They advertise the acceptance of these cards for prepared food. One is right down the street from the school I teach in. Kids will take their family EBT card and purchase hoagies, fries, hamburgers, etc..

  10. I see that alot of people are in favor of increasing the tax on a perceived "unhealthy food". I guess in this category most breakfast cereals would qualify as would most granola bars and every other processed food that may have a reasonable health benefit, but because the government will not stop at twinkies and hohos, there will be a generalization. Alot of foods that you wouldn't believe would qualify for this tax. But try to remember that alot of these items are used in schools, hospitals, daycares, nursing homes, etc....to increase the tax on this level will now have an effect on so many other areas. I don't believe this is the answer, obesity cannot be the sole reason the healthcare is in the shape it is currently in. If a person is consuming too many calories a day for other reasons unknown then they can still consume too much by eating too much fruits, vegetables and other "healthy foods".

  11. I guess it would be reasonable to place the expectations of controlled body weight on the people who are receiving government assisted healthcare. However for me...I pay a pretty hefty premium already for a family of four. I feel my lifestyle is not open for their judgement or scrutiny whether or not I should pay more than you. Don't up the premiums increase the deductibles.
