  1. 135 Days!

When mandatory practice starts this summer we will finally see who among our boys in Greenup County really want to play football. Coach Copley intends on some pretty intense practices, which will include two mandatory camps. One a mini camp at the HS will start at 8am on a Wednesday and last until 11pm on Friday night. They will practice early mornings and late at night to avoid the heat. They will run drills and stairs in the gym during the hottest part of the day. They will, for nearly 72 hours, eat and sleep football. No cell phones, no tv, no xbox, girlfriends, etc to distract them from the cause!!!!

    Outstanding!

  2. There has been a rumor that Kitchen may be leaving GC, has anyone else heard this? I hate to see spring practice end, these boys have really been having alot of fun (Me too):D. Now it is time for the parents to get to work and get things ready for the season,so I hope to see everyone tonight at the Booster Meeting.

    No truth to this whatsoever

  3. Thanks, sidelinedoc, I was probably being defensive. Everything is going smoothly at Greenup right now. Boosters, parents, JFL Coaches, all working together as they haven't really done in the past. It no longer feels as if we are divided by which end of the county we are from. We are all Greenup County!!!! I want to make sure that boat doesn't get "rocked."

"This statement makes me laugh. I have lived in Greenup County(not originally from here) for 21 years and up until 2 years ago when a Greenup County freshman parent informed me that since I was from South Shore I was from the wrong side of the county or the "other" side of the county. I never believed that until someone try to inform me of this. I had always thought that Russell was the other side not Wurtland. (Please Russell don't take offense)

I am very pleased all is going well with the boys and the program but I'm getting tired of anything that happened in the past has been all negative. They did play in the district tournament and won 2 games 2 years ago and that was with the former coach and the former boys.

Everyboy that graduates from Greenup County is a MUSKETEER and so are the parents.

Anything that is said about the past always seems negative but then these posts claim to be all positive. Can't we move past all this stuff and concentrate only on the program now, don't run down the program before ok?

I know again, that the senior flags that I did for 6 years and will continue to do for these wonderful young men are very much appreciative and that is a POSITIVE thing.

You are a true asset to our program and to our county and I (and I bet everyone that reads this post) appreciate everything that your family does for our program.

We all need to focus on the future.

  4. Wow...so it's somehow controversial that FOOTBALL will actually get more of the money that's brought in due to people coming to watch FOOTBALL games!?

    Shocking.

By the way, CONGRATS Greenup Co. You've got a head coach (and a couple of assistants too) that understand the the "Big Picture" but will put also put a major emphasis on doing all "the little things" the way CHAMPIONS do.

The BOE will give us ample time to pay them back.

We are very fortunate and happy about our new coaching staff, thanks Coach J...

  5. Last night at the board meeting Coach Copley asked the board for $45,000 for equipment. Last year some players were wearing JFL equipment. Brain Grayson had 3 ribs cracked last year at Boyd County because of equipment. Football will have to pay the money back. Also the board approved the middle schools to combine football. Coach Copley voiced how he felt about the situation. Coach Copley was for it, which was the deciding factor in the decison to approve it.

Great news, we needed the equipment in the worst way.

  6. If it is all worked out then where did they decide to put the new weight room? This has been the longest drawn out process I have ever seen. Who would have known that it would cause so much trouble for something nice to be added for the good of the WHOLE school.

I don't know exactly but was told that everybody is happy finally.

  7. Coup, how about we agree to disagree on this one, ok? I don't believe there will be janitors cleaning up anymore there than in the fieldhouse.

Someone said that there was a room underneath the bleachers, now I don't know why someone didn't think all this through before they ordered $40,000. weights that's kind of like getting the carriage before the horse, don't you think?

They got it all worked out yesterday, the band is going to be able to keep a storage area and the weight room is going to be done as well.

The arts are very important to not only the school but our community and band is a huge part of this, however we need to look at the future of our children as well, fitness of our children is down considerably and this weight room will benefit the entire school system not only now but for many, many years to come in the future in keeping our children in shape.

  8. Well, I guess its the bands turn to raise hell about the location of the new weight room. Nothing against the band, but this weight room will benefit every sport at the high school, boys and girls and even every PE students. IMO when the band starts bringing in as much money to our school district as the sports do, then they will have a right to complain about losing a storage room, where the instruments are kept.

OMG, this is getting ridiculous. Matt needs to make a call, this is for the entire school.

  9. Yes, but GC wasn't down like they've been the past 4years. When Maynard was their the board didn't pay much mind to the football program because the program was doing good. T.J. just had two other coach's helping him. Coach Copley has really put together a great coaching staff. Boosters, Fans, Alumnus and parents have really put the presser on the board to get things done.

    :thumb::thumb:

  10. What a difference in practice, they hit more yesterday in practice in just shoulder pads and helmets than they did all year last year during practice.

Wow, love the way the practice moves, everybody is involved, nobody is walking, everyone is running from drill area to drill area and they are constantly saying, don't be last, don't be last, truly awesome, can't wait to see the game next week...

  11. This is awesome. On top of the 60 players we already have coming out for weightlifting!!! It looks like we will have to hit the fundraising pretty hard as we do not have enough uniforms for all these players. (Though I concede this is a good problem to have!)

Last night we walked the field and marked the sprinkler heads to be removed today. The entire irrigation system will be replaced and the field re-topped and new grass planted. The insurance issue has been taken care of, Ailister told me papers were on file with Superintendent Hughes.

I spoke with Coach Copley yesterday and he is working on a list of needs, prioritizing them by "have to haves" and wants. One of the first issues is equipment for the boys. Our shoulder pads are in terrible shape. Coach Mullins said most of them have been in use since before he played. This is a safety issue for GC and needs to be handled. We have had injuries in the past related to this poor equipment. The school is responsible for helmuts and shoulder pads, so we need to get them on board and get this taken care of as soon as possible.

David Duncan showed up yesterday and does want to play. He was being fitted for shoulder pads while I was there. It looked as if the set he was trying on was from JFL!!!!

Coach said he will have an intrasquad game, at the end of the second week of spring practice. It will probably take place right after school.

Monday it will reallly kick into gear. Spring Practice is from 3:30 - 5:30. The boys are very excited!!

    Let's go Greenup!!!

We will get the equipment for the boys, the BOE will know about this need.

  12. Apparently Joe Grubb spoke with Mr. Hughes and committed the boosters to this project. Although the Board is providing the money, the boosters will provide all the labor. (Just as we provide all the labor for mowing and painting the field.) We will begin working on the field this Satuday at 9am. I don't agree with it either, but we play the hand we are dealt. The ultimate goal is to have a safe playing field for our boys.

There is lack of communication at GC that amazes me. Most of the boosters were unaware that we were committing to this project. It was discussed at a subcommittee meeting, not a full meeting and AD Ailister did not have any idea it was going to the Board. He is concerned regarding a possible interferance with Track. I appreciate those people who go out of their way to make things happen, just feel there needs to be better communication and proper rules of order observed regarding decision making and voting projects up or down.

This should be done by the school, ridiculous that the boosters have do it.. I will be glad to try and work this out for us if need be, don't understand this at all....

  13. They voted last night to crown the field and put bluegrass back down so the field will hold up during the winter, coach doesn't want bermuda.

We are waiting on the paper work to get done with the stimulas package to build the fieldhouse, it will have a classroom, film room and be a first class facility, something we will be very proud of and it will be the players second home.

We are also going to get the lights and the bleachers done as well.

This will be up for a vote within the next 2 meetings according to one of the board members and all the board is behind it as well as the Administration.

Then we will work on turf, never, ever give up on what we deserve GCHS...

  14. Word is Coach Burchett from Johnson Central, 29 year line coach, is coming to GCHS as an assistant!!!

What a huge, huge, huge deal for us!!!

This is the coach that Coach Copley wants very bad because he has taught his offensive blocking scheme for 29 years... This is huge if it happens!
