Im not declaring LCA's innocence.. all im saying is that the paper misquoted what actually happened. LCA was fined 3000 dollars total. the first 2000 was because of an event that occured over 5 years ago. An LCA soccer player's father was layed off from his job and could no longer afford to send his son to LCA. to prevent this kid from having to switch schools several parents got together and gathered 800 dollars total, on 2 seperate occasions, to allow this kid to remain at LCA. This is a violation of KHSAA rules because tuition assistance from anyone outside an athletes immediate family is not allowed. while this was a violation of rules it is no form of recruiting. The next 1000 dollar fine was because of several Baptist churches that chose to assist minority students with scholarships to private schools to promote diversity in Christian and Catholic schools. So because of this ruling these students will no longer be able to receive this aid, simply because they are athletes. however any student that is not an athlete would still be eligible to receive this aid. this, in my opinion, doesnt make much sense. All allegations of recruitment were completely dismissed. So other than speculation, which to my knowledge is all untrue, LCA is innocent of any recruiting. It has all been misinterpreted in the media. I am not saying that these acts dont deserve punishment. rules are rules. but the punishment IMO was severe enough.
