  1. Week 5 is in the books in the 11th Region!! Much of the same from the previous week as far as the rankings go but a couple of shakeups. We have no more undefeated teams in the region and some things are starting to shake out as far as district seeding goes. Not many games to report on from the last week but lets check out whats been going on in Central Kentucky this past week!

    TEAM RANKINGS

    1. Lexington Catholic (12-1) - The Knights stay in the top spot this week and rightfully so after the outstanding start to the season. In their only game of the week Lexington Catholic traveled north to St. Henry and took what some would call a head scratching loss to the Crusaders by a score of 70-59. On the surface this looks like a bad loss but after coming off a brutal stretch in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and a big district game coming up this week, you cant blame the Knights for not being overly motivated for this game. Still credit to St. Henry for playing well and beating the Knights. This week Lexington Catholic hosts 43rd District rival Lexington Christian and then opens up play in the 2A sectional tournament with Boyle County. Depending on how the game against Boyle County goes the Knights could play multiple 2A games this weekend.

    2. Henry Clay (7-5) - The Blue Devils only played one game this past week and picked up a 74-55 win over Sayre in a 42nd District game. Henry Clay is starting to come back to the form we all expected in the preseason and find themselves at #2 in this weeks rankings. This week the Blue Devils host Frederick Douglass and then travel to Scott County. Two big district seed games this week for Henry Clay as the look to get back to the 1 seed and avenge an early season loss to Frederick Douglass. This week will determine a lot for teams in the 42nd District!

    3. Tates Creek (9-5) - The Commodores started off the week with a big statement win on the road over Frederick Douglass and ended the week with a loss to a quality opponent in Bourbon County. Tates Creek has played a very competitive schedule early on in the season and its starting to show its usefullness. Amari Taylor and Cion Townsend are playing well for the Commodores and Taylor scored his 1000th career point this past week, congrats to him! Up next for Tates Creek they host a good Woodford County team before traveling to Lafayette in an important 43rd District seeding game!

    4. Frederick Douglass (9-4) - The Broncos dropped the only game they played this past week to Tates Creek 77-61. Douglass has had an amazing start to the season and need to keep that up coming into the stretch of 42nd District games they have coming up. This week the travel across town to Henry Clay in a huge 42nd District seed game. The Broncos defeated Henry Clay to begin the season and can really put themselves in the drivers seat in the 42nd District with a win over the Blue Devils this week. This weekend Douglass will also travel to Great Crossing in an intriguing matchup for both teams.

    5. Great Crossing (6-6) - The Warhawks took a tough loss in their only game this past week on the road at 12th Region preseason favorite Lincoln County. Great Crossing currently sits at 1-0 in 41st District play and has a chance to improve on that record as they host Frankfort this week before heading to Trinity this weekend and then returning home to host a top 11th Region team in Frederick Douglass.

    6. Lexington Christian (8-6) - The Eagles split the two games they played this week with a tough home loss to West Jessamine and a nice neutral court win over Scott in the Tim Short Classic at GRC this weekend. LCA has a HUGE week as they travel to Lexington Catholic and to Paul Laurence Dunbar in 43rd District action. The Eagles sit at 1-2 currently in the district standings but have an opportunity to make up a lot of ground this week if they can find a way to win both games.

    7. Bryan Station (6-9) - The Road Warriors of the region, the Defenders have only played one home game all season! This past week Bryan Station went on the road and defeated Frankfort by a huge margin and then followed that up by beating 12th Region foe Southwestern on the road 58-56! Bryan Station has improved by leaps and bounds over the past year and look to be primed to make some noise in their district tournament this year. This week the Defenders host Lafayette in their only game of the week.

    8. Madison Central (5-8) - The Indians split their two games this week with a loss at home to a good Collins team and a win over a solid Danville team on a neutral floor. This week Madison Central heads over to Paul Laurence Dunbar before ending the week with Christian County in the Toyota Of Hopkinsville Classic.

    9. Paul Laurence Dunbar (5-8) - The Bulldogs hit the road this past weekend to play in the Champions of Kentucky Classic at North Oldham where they dropped a close one to Oldham County before pulling out a nice come from behind win over North Oldham. Leading scorer Tim Hall is currently saddled with a wrist injury and hasnt been playing for the Bulldogs. This week PLD hosts Madison Central and LCA. The LCA game is a big one for both teams as far as seeding goes in the 43rd District!

    10. Western Hills (7-4) - The Wolverines make their first appearance in the top 10 of our rankings in a long time. This past week Western Hills picked up a big win over crosstown and 41st District rival Franklin County which helped the Wolverines improve to 4-0 in the 41st District and in line for the ever precious 1 seed. This week the Wolverines host East Jessamine before playing Henry County in the opening round of the 2A Sectional tournament.

    11. Scott County (6-6) - Im not sure we have ever had the Cardinals this low EVER but at this time this is where they rank. Scott County dropped their only game this past week with a loss to Clay County on the road. The Cardinals have an immediate chance to climb back up the rankings this week as they host Henry Clay and travel to a good Oldham County team. Scott County desperately needs a win over the Blue Devils to get some positive mojo going for the rest of the season.

    12. Madison Southern (6-6) - The Eagles hit the road to Coconut Creek, Florida last week to play in the Rock Holiday Classic and came back as runner up finishing 2-1 with wins over Leman Manhattan Prep and Lake Mary Prep before falling by 2 in the championship game to Riverdale Country out of the Bronx in New York. This week Madison Southern hosts Model and heads across town to Berea. The Berea game is one that looks to be better then it usually is.

    13. Franklin County (5-6) - The Flyers are in a bit of a funk lately having dropped 3 of their last 4 including a loss this past week to crosstown 41st District rival Western Hills. Franklin County has fought illness and injuries all year and probably has its best basketball ahead of them but at this point they are where they are. This week the Flyers host Eastern before heading downtown to take on Frankfort in a 41st District clash.

    14. Lafayette (4-10) - The Generals participated in the City of Middletown Holiday Classic this past week and finished 1-2 with a win over Henderson County and losses to Highlands and Ohio County. Lafayette just can't seem to find a second scoring option behind Ray Surratt. This week the Generals head to Bryan Station and host Tates Creek to end the week.

    15. Berea (10-3) - The Pirates finished the week 2-0 with wins over Williamstown and Jackson City in the Hoosier Gym Classic in Knightstown, Indiana this past week. The Pirates have a chance to climb up in our rankings this week as they host Madison Southern in their only game this week.

    16. Frankfort (5-10) - The Panthers have lost seven straight games including a blowout loss to Bryan Station this past week. Frankfort was decimated by graduation from a year ago and this group just cant seem to find its footing. This week the Panthers travel to Great Crossing and host Franklin County in two crucial 41st District seed games for them!

    17. Sayre (7-7) - The Spartans broke a three game losing streak this week with a win over Pendelton County but did fall to Henry Clay earlier in the week. Up next for Sayre they head to Rockcastle County. Point guard Will Hairston still remains out due to injury as of last week. That is a big blow for Sayre.

    18. Model (4-8) - The Patriots picked up a win this past week over Green County in the Arnie Rison Classic at Williamstown. This week Model heads to Madison Southern and hosts West Jessamine.

    19. Frankfort Christian Academy (0-6) - The Royals dropped their only game last week to Danville Christian. This week Frankfort Christian heads to St. Francis and hosts Owen County.

  2. What a week in the 11th Region! The central KY area was blessed with some of the top teams in the state of Kentucky making there way to Lexington to play in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic and the Central Bank Classic at LCA. Some other teams around the region ventured out to test the competition around the state and out of state. The 11th is quite the story this season. Everyone is pretty set on who the top 3 teams are but after that I'm not sure you wouldn't have a better chance of ranking them if you just pulled the next 7 out of a hat. Lets get to it!

    TEAM RANKINGS

    1. Lexington Catholic (12-0) - The Knights continue to roll on through the early part of their schedule. Lexington Catholic hosted the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic this week and came away champions of the event that was LOADED with talent. To take the crown the Knights beat Martin County, Beechwood, Frederick Douglass, and Madisonville North Hopkins. Ben Johnson was named tournament MVP but Peyton Pelfrey was the hero of the night with a last second tip in to get the Knights the victory over Madisonville North Hopkins. The Knights have proved they are a legitimate top 3 team in the state and contender for a state championship. This week the Knights hit the road to St. Henry for their only game of the week.

    2. Frederick Douglass (9-3) - The Broncos also competed in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and finished 4th place in the loaded event. To start the tournament FDHS beat a good North Oldham team and then backed that up by beating one of the top teams in the 5th Region in Bardstown. Next up the Broncos fell to tournament host and eventual winner Lexington Catholic before dropping the third place game to Bourbon County in a highly entertaining game. DaShawn Jackson and Jaylan Green continue to pace the Broncos. This week the Broncos host Tates Creek in a very intriguing game.

    3. Henry Clay (6-5) - The Blue Devils hit the road this week to Charlotte, NC for the Hoodies Hoop for Hope tournament. Henry Clay beat Milton, Georgia in double overtime to start the tournament then fell to St. Benedict's out of New Jersey and Carmel Christian out of North Carolina to take 4th place. Only one game on the schedule this week for the Blue Devils as they host Sayre.

    4. Great Crossing (6-5) - The Warhawks went to Logan County this past week and came back as the runner ups of the Roy's Bar B Que/1st Southern Bank Classic. This week Great Crossing heads to preseason 12th Region Favorite Lincoln County.

    5. Tates Creek (8-4) - The Commodores were another team that competed in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic and came away 3-1 and won the consolation bracket. Tates Creek had a tough opening round game against Collins and pushed them to the limit falling on a last second shot. The Commodores bounced back picking up 3 wins over quality competition in Cooper, Central, and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Cion Townsend and Amari Taylor are having great early season success. This week Tates Creek heads to Frederick Douglass and then hosts Bourbon County.

  3. Week 3 is in the books in the 11th Region and there has been some serious shakeup in the rankings. One team has established themselves as the team to beat in the region while some other teams leave a lot to be desired as far as preseason expectations! Lets check out whats been going on this past week in the 11th!

    TEAM RANKINGS

    1. Lexington Catholic (8-0) -The Knights continue to roll into the new year. This past week Lexington Catholic picked up 4 wins all over quality competition. To start the week the Knights CRUSHED Dunbar in a game where they led by as many as 32 points at one point. Lex Cath followed that up with another district win over a tough Tates Creek team by 16 points. With those two wins the Knights have put themselves in the drivers seat for the ever elusive 1 seed in the always tough 43rd District tournament. To end the week Lexington Catholic traveled north to play in the Simon Kenton Invitational Tournament and picked up two more double digit victories over Simon Kenton and Scott. The Knights have established themselves as the top team in the region and a top 5 team in the state of Kentucky. This coming week Lexington Catholic hosts one of the top holiday events in all the state in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic. They open up with Martin County in a tournament with an absolutely loaded field.

    2. Frederick Douglass (7-1) -For the first time this season the Broncos lost a game as they dropped a 1 point game on a neutral court to West Carter. Earlier in the week the Broncos picked up wins over Russell and Madison Southern. DaShawn Jackson and Jaylan Green continue to pace Douglass early in the year. Even with the close loss FDHS has established itself as the second best team in the region. This week the Broncos also compete in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic where they open up with a top 8th Region team, North Oldham.

    3. Henry Clay (5-3) -Our preseason number 1 team got off to a rough start but made a big statement this week. The Blue Devils hosted the Henry Clay Holiday Invitational Tournament where they beat Moore and Harlan County soundly to open tournament play then got a big win in a rematch over Bourbon County. Senior Marques Warrick hit a 3 at the horn to give the Blue Devils the win over Bourbon County. The NKU signee continues to put up huge numbers for Henry Clay. The Blue Devils are off until after the new year.

    4. Great Crossing (4-4) -The Warhawks make the biggest jump this week in our rankings. Great Crossing started the week off with a big 41st district win over Franklin County and then went across town for the first ever crosstown matchup with Scott County, where the Warhawks pulled off a 64-52 win! Great Crossing did drop a neutral court game to a good North Laurel team but have shown enough at this point to move up to this spot in the rankings. This week the Warhawks head out west to Logan County to play in the Roy's Bar-B-Que/1st Southern National Bank Classic where they open up with Hopkinsville.

    5. Tates Creek (5-3) -The Commodores have been begging for respect for a long time and they are well on their way up the rankings. To start the week Tates Creek hosted Lafayette and smoked the Generals by 25 points! Next up the Commodores traveled to Lexington Catholic and took one on the chin but bounced back in a HUGE way with a blowout win over a quality opponent in Beechwood on the road! This week the Tates Creek is also participating in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic and open up with the top 8th Region team Collins! Another big week and big chance for the Commodores to earn that respect they crave so much!

    6. Scott County (3-4) -The Cardinals take a drop in the rankings this week after suffering two losses to Woodford County and Great Crossing. Terrin Hamilton continues to be the leader for the Cardinals who desperately need to find a second scoring threat to get back toward the top tier in the 11th Region. This week Scott County heads to Bryan Station for a district matchup before hitting the road to Ashland for the Ashland Invitational Tournament where they open up with Boyd County.

    7. Lexington Christian Academy (5-4) -The Eagles take a step up in the rankings as well this week going 2-1. To start the week LCA blasted Paul Laurence Dunbar in a big 43rd District seeding game. The Eagles did drop one to Boyle County before bouncing back and picking up a neutral court victory over a solid South Laurel team. This week the Eagles host the Central Bank Classic where they open up with Lloyd Memorial in a loaded field of teams.

    8. Paul Laurence Dunbar (2-5) -The Bulldogs continue to struggle early in the season. Really the only reason they are this high is due to some head to head wins over teams below them. The Bulldogs started the week by losing in a big way at Lexington Catholic and Lexington Christian before heading to Woodford County to play top 5 John Hardin where they lost by 12 in a game that was single digits most of the way. This week PLD also heads to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic where they open up with Simon Kenton.

    9. Bryan Station (3-6) - The Defenders are slowly getting better and finished the week 1-1 with a nice win over Madison Central and a loss on the road to Cooper. James Lindsay and Trent Grundy continue to pace the Defenders. This week Bryan Station hosts Scott County before heading to Arlington, Virginia to compete in the George Long Holiday Hoops Tournament.

    10. Madison Central (3-5) -The Indians dropped a close game on the road at Bryan Station to start the week then went to the Mike Reitz Classic at Harrison County where they dropped a game to Highlands before destroying the host Thorobreds. This week the Indians head to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic where they open with Bourbon County.

    11. Franklin County (4-3) -The Flyers have been fighting the injury and illness bug the last two weeks and have yet to play a game with their full squad this season. To start the week the Flyers dropped a big one at Great Crossing but bounced back nicely with a blowout victory over Trimble County. This week the Flyers head to the Henry County Invitational where they open up with Bishop Brossart.

    12. Lafayette (3-6) -The Generals headed over to Henry Clay this past week for the Henry Clay Holiday Invitational where they went 2-1 and finished 3rd with wins over Columbia, Florida and Harlan County but dropped a game to Bourbon County. 15. Berea (8-3) -The Pirates played 5 games this past week and picked up 3 wins over Evangel Christian, Jackson City, and Wellspring Guardians. They dropped games to Whitley County and Somerset. The Pirates are off this week according to the KHSAA schedule site.

    GAMES OF THE WEEK

Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic

Central Bank Classic at Lexington Christian Academy

  4. The season is only 2 weeks old but it feels like its in full swing after some of the results this week! An exciting week which featured one team really showing they are the team to beat early in the season. Some head scratching results as well. Lets check out what happened!

    TEAM RANKINGS

    1. Lexington Catholic (5-0) - The Knights continue to play at a super high level early in the season. This week Lexington Catholic picked up 2 wins over preseason top 5 11th Region teams. First, they traveled to Scott County and knocked off the Cardinals 62-49 and then ended the week with a blowout win over 43rd District rival Paul Laurence Dunbar by 18 points in a game in which they led by as many as 32!! Quite a statement week for the Knights. Ben Johnson has been the best player in the Region so far and its not really that close. The Knights are a legit top 10 team in the state right now!

    2. Frederick Douglass (5-0) -The Broncos continued their winning ways this week picking up 3 victories over Woodford County, Lafayette, and Boyle County. In only their 3rd year of existence the Broncos are really showing how far they have come in a short time. DeShawn Jackson is leading a balanced attack for Douglass right now and the Broncos are showing great teamwork and an unselfish attitude along the way. This week FDHS hosts Madison Southern before heading to Rowan County to play 16th Region teams Russell and West Carter.

    3. Scott County (3-2) -The Cardinals are starting to find their way under Coach Tim Glenn. Early in the week they dropped a tough one to Lexington Catholic but bounced back with wins over LCA and Jeffersonville, Indiana in the Kentucky/Indiana Challenge Cup. Jeffersonville is a top ranked team in their class in Indiana this season. Terrin Hamilton continues to have an outstanding season averaging 23.4 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game. This week the Cardinals head to Woodford County and host crosstown "rival" Great Crossing.

    4. Henry Clay (2-3) -The Blue Devils are off to a rough start this season. Part of that is due to their schedule though. This week Henry Clay dropped 2 close games on the road to Eastern and Bourbon County. This week the Blue Devils host the Henry Clay Holiday Invitational but have not released the schedule or matchups on KHSAA. The Blue Devils really need to get it going in the right direction and show why many had them ranked as the top team in the 11th in the preseason.

    5. Paul Laurence Dunbar (2-3) - The Bulldogs are in a similar position as Henry Clay, being off to a rough start. This week the Bulldogs did pick up a district win on the road over Lafayette but fell hard to end the week at Lexington Catholic. This week the Bulldogs head to Lexington Christian for another 43rd District matchup and then end the week at Woodford County's Mack Calvert Classic where they matchup with a top 10 team in the state John Hardin.

    6. Tates Creek (3-2) - The Commodores picked up 2 wins this week over Lexington Christian and Bryan Station. Coach Gay and his staff have really improved the Centre Parkway crew over the last few years and are starting to reap the benefits. This week will be a BIG test for Creek as they hit the road to Lafayette, Lexington Catholic, and a really good Beechwood team. We will see what this group is made of this week. A great chance to move up in the rankings!

    7. Madison Central (2-3) - The Indians had a rough week dropping two home games to George Rogers Clark and Somerset. Both quality teams but nonetheless losses. This week the Indians head to Bryan Station then begin play in the Mike Reitz Classic at Harrison County with an opening round game against Highlands.

    8. Lafayette (1-4) - The Generals picked up their first win of the season this past week over LCA but also dropped a home game to PLD. Lafayette is struggling to find a second scorer behind big man Ray Surratt. This week the Generals host Tates Creek then play in the Henry Clay Invitational.

    9. Lexington Christian Academy (3-3) - The Eagles dropped all 3 games they played this week to Scott County, Lafayette, and Tates Creek. All 3 games were close games and finished under 10 points. The Eagles are still finding their way under new coach Ted Hall but they are a scrappy bunch that plays hard and when they get hot can shoot anyone out of the gym. This week the Eagles host PLD, Boyle County, and then head to Rowan County to play South Laurel.

    10. Bryan Station (2-5) - The Defenders have yet to play a home game this season but were able to pick up a neutral court win over a good Woodford County team this weekend. Earlier in the week they dropped two close games to Henry Clay and Tates Creek. Two tough games on the schedule this week as Bryan Station hosts Madison Central and then heads to Cooper. Another chance for Station to move up in the rankings.

    11. Franklin County (3-2) - The Flyers early season ups and downs continued this week. Early in the week FC destroyed Frankfort Christian Academy before dropping a road game to East Jessamine. The Flyers have been without some kids that play a lot due to illness and injury but look to get back to 100% this week. A big game to start the week with new district foe Great Crossing then host Trimble County on the weekend.

    12. Great Crossing (2-3) - The Warhawks picked up their first 2 wins in school history this week beating East Jessamine on the road and then destroying Cambridge City Lincoln, Indiana in the KY/IN Challenge Cup. A HUGE week for GC this week as they host Franklin County for their first 41st District game and then head across town for their first ever Scott County/Great Crossing matchup.

    13. Madison Southern (3-2) - The Eagles picked up 2 wins this week over Barbourville and Woodford County. This week Madison Southern heads to Frederick Douglass and faces off with Dixie Heights at Rowan County.

    14. Western Hills (3-3) - The Wolverines picked up two impressive wins this week over Frankfort and Rockcastle County. Coach Cody has this Western Hills team really playing hard and they are starting to show signs of vast improvement. This week only 1 game as they head to Frankfort Christian Academy for a district game.

    15. Frankfort (3-3) - The Panthers had a rough week going 1-2 with a win over Burgin but 2 blowout losses to Danville and Western Hills. The Panthers have a busy week on the road as they head to Barbourville and Nicholas County then head to Florida for the Fleming Island Classic.

    16. Berea (5-1) - The Pirates are off to a great start this season already winning 5 games. This past week Berea picked up a big win over Dayton and dropped a close one to Pineville. Jaylen Dorsey has been a bug surprise thus far averaging nearly 21 points per game. This week Berea heads to Whitley County then hosts the Berea All A Holiday Invitational where they open up play with Evangel Christian.

    17. Sayre (2-3) - The Spartans started off the week with a nice win over Western Hills then dropped one to Louisville Holy Cross. The sooner Point Guard Will Hairston gets back for the Spartans the better they will be. He is a game changer. This week Sayre heads to the Berea All A Holiday Invitational.

    18. Model (1-4) - The Patriots finished 1-1 this week with a win over Bluegrass United Homeschool and a loss to Nelson County. This week Model heads to Mercer County and East Jessamine and then begins play in the Berea All A Holiday Invitational.

    19. Frankfort Christian Academy (0-4) -The Royals dropped 3 games in a big way last week to Franklin County, Walden, and Heritage Academy. This week Frankfort Christian hosts Western Hills and heads to Nicholas County.

  5. The first week of the 2019-20 season is in the books. An exciting week in the 11th Region which included some "upsets" and surprising results. Our preseason #1 team has already taken a loss to a team in the region and other top teams are off to rough starts. Lets check out what happened this week!

    Team Rankings

    1. Lexington Catholic (3-0) - The Knights got off to a great start this season. Their opening game featured a visit from top ranked Covington Catholic. The Knights were able to pull out a 1 point victory at home in a highly competitive game. To finish the week Lexington Catholic traveled to Danville and knocked off the Admirals who are a top 5 team in the 12th region then came home and dismantled Model to end the week 3-0!! Ben Johnson had an outstanding week scoring the basketball and has recently picked up his first Division 1 offer from Bellarmine! Coming up this week for the Knights are 2 tough games as they travel to Scott County and then host Paul Laurence Dunbar in crucial early season 43rd District seed game.

    2. Frederick Douglass (2-0) - The Broncos are our biggest riser this week climbing all the way to #2 after knocking off our previous #1 Henry Clay and then beating a good Rowan County team over the weekend. To date the Broncos haven't posted any stats so unable to tell who has played well to start the season. The win over Henry Clay was the first for FDHS over the Blue Devils in school history. This week the Broncos host a good Woodford County team, travel to Lafayette, and then host Boyle County to end the week. Three good tests for FDHS.

    3. Henry Clay (1-1) - Our preseason #1 team started the season with a surprising loss to Frederick Douglass but were able to bounce back and pick up a win over Tates Creek to salvage a 1-1 week. At post time no stats have been posted for the Blue Devils. A tough week upcoming for the Blue Devils as the host rival Bryan Station, head to Louisville to play Eastern, and then return home to face the top 10th Region team Bourbon County.

    4. Scott County (1-1) - The Cardinals started off the season on the road traveling to Bullitt East and Bardstown. Scott County returned home with a 1-1 record. Congrats to Coach Tim Glenn on his 1st career victory as head coach of the Cardinals. Senior big man Terrin Hamilton is off to an amazing start averaging 30.5 points and 9.0 rebounds a game. This week the Cardinals return home to host Lexington Cathoilc, Lexington Christian, and Jeffersonville, Indiana in the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame Classic. A big week for Scott County.

    5. Madison Central (2-1) - The Indians started off the season with 2 nice wins over quality opponents Pulaski County and Lafayette and dropped a tough game to the top 16th Region team, Ashland Blazer. Braeden Ray and Kole Brown have paced the Indians early this year, each pouring in 19.0 points per game. This week provides a solid test as the Indians host George Rogers Clark and Somerset.

    6. Lexington Christian (3-0) - New coach Ted Hall got his tenure as LCA head coach off to a great start going 3-0 this past week. The Eagles were able to easily defeat Bluegrass United Home School, Western Hills, and Buckhorn. Not exactly a murders row of opponents but nonetheless the Eagles won 3 games they were supposed to by convincing margins. Maybe a little too high but at this point LCA was able to win games which other teams in the region have struggled to do. The competition takes a huge uptick this week as the Eagles host Tates Creek, travel to Scott County, and host Lafayette. A big week for 43rd District seeding purposes early in the year for the Eagles.

    7. Paul Laurence Dunbar (1-2) - The Bulldogs got off to a less then stellar start to the season getting smashed at home by Woodford County in a game which the former 11th region team dominated from the tip. PLD bounced back by knocking off city rival Bryan Station, then dropped a close one to Newport on a neutral court. The Bulldogs start off district play this week with visits to Lafayette and Lexington Catholic. The Bulldogs cant afford to drop both games and stay in the hunt for the ever precious 1 seed in the 43rd!

    8. Tates Creek (1-2) - The Commodores started the season off with a beat down victory on the road over Powell County then dropped two close ones to Henry Clay on the road and South Laurel on a neutral court in overtime. A name to remember for the Commodores is Freshmen Samuel Parrish, the freshmen has shown flashes of brilliance early on this season. This week Tates Creek travels to LCA for a 43rd District showdown then hosts city rival Bryan Station in what should be a good game.

    9. Franklin County (2-1) - The Flyers finish the week 2-1 with wins over Paris and Nelson County but a big loss on the road to Spencer County. The Flyers have the pieces to be a contender this year but seem to still be looking for the right mix and chemistry. I expect this team to rise through the rankings throughout the season. This week the Flyers travel to Frankfort Christian Academy and East Jessamine.

    10. Lafayette (0-2) - A rough start for the Generals who lost in a big way at the #1 ranked 12th Region Lincoln County then traveled to Madison Central and lost in overtime. Big man Ray Surratt had a good week with 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game but the Generals are struggling to find that second scoring option. This week the Generals open up 43rd District play hosting PLD and traveling to LCA and welcome city rival Frederick Douglass to Lafayette to sandwich those 2 district seed games.

    11. Bryan Station (1-3) - The Defenders were true road warriors to start their season as they went on the road 4 times this week! Bryan Station was able to pick up a 1 point victory over Great Crossing on a last second tip in but dropped games to John Hardin, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Hazard. James Lindsay has paced the Defenders early averaging 14 points per game. This week the Defenders are back on the road as they head to Henry Clay, Tates Creek, and Bourbon County to play Woodford County.

    12. Madison Southern (1-1) - The Eagles started the season off with a big win over Cordia and then fell in overtime by 4 to a strong Trinity team. The Eagles are without returning leading scorer Trent Moberly who suffered an ACL injury. This week the Eagles host Estill County and Woodford County then face off with Barbourville at Berea.

    13. Great Crossing (0-3) - The Warhawks are off to a rough start in their inaugural season. Great Crossing opened the season losing in a big way to West Jessamine then fell on a buzzer beater to Bryan Station and lost another close one on the road to Ryle. Up next for the Warhawks is a trip to East Jessamine and a home game vs. Cambridge City Lincoln, Indiana in the KY-IN Challenge Cup event.

    14. Frankfort (2-1) - The Panthers opened the season with home wins over Sayre and Carroll County then took a big loss to Mason County at a neutral site. This week the Panthers head to Burgin, host Danville, and then open up 41st District play with a trip to Western Hills.

    15. Western Hills (1-2) - The Wolverines opened up the season with a big win over Owen County then dropped back to back close games to LCA and Henry County. This week the Wolverines travel to Sayre, host Frankfort, and then play Rockcastle County on a neutral court.

    16. Berea (4-0) - The Pirates are off to a great start this season picking up wins over Frankfort Christian Academy, Eminence, Cumberland Homeschool Athletic Teams, and Lee County. This week Berea hosts Dayton and Pineville.

    17. Sayre (1-2) - The Spartans had a rough start to the week dropping a big one to East Jessamine and then falling at Frankfort but bounced back nicely to beat Augusta this weekend. Up next Sayre hosts Western Hills and Louisville Holy Cross.

    18. Model (0-3) - The Patriots are off to a rough start losing games to Whitley County, Buckhorn, and Lexington Catholic. This week the Patriots host Bluegrass United then head to Nelson County and Mercer County.

    19. Frankfort Christian Academy (0-1) - The Royals dropped their only game last week to Berea. Up next they host Franklin County, travel to Walden, and host Heritage Academy.

  6. The season is upon us! Once again the 11th Region looks to be solid and full of talented players and teams who will challenge for a deep run in the state tournament per usual. There has been some shake up with Woodford County leaving and Great Crossing and Frankfort Christian Academy entering the fray this season. Lets check out what we have to look forward to!

    PLAYER RANKINGS

    1. Marques Warrick - Henry Clay - Recently committed to NKU, Warrick is Henry Clay's returning leading scorer. Look for him to up his average of 21.1 points per game from a year ago and help lead the Blue Devils to a stellar season.

    2. Ben Johnson - Lexington Catholic - Johnson is one of the top players in the class of 2021 and looks to lead the Knights back to the regional tournament after averaging 18.4 points per game a season ago.

    3. DaShawn Jackson - Frederick Douglass - Another top player in the class of 2021, Jackson averaged 16.0 points per game a year ago. A solid outside shooter, expect his game to rise overall this season.

    4. Ray Surratt - Lafayette - Big Ray averaged 17.1 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and nearly 3 blocks a contest. A force in the paint on both ends, Ray is the prototypical Lafayette big man.

    5. Terrin Hamilton - Scott County - Hamilton has been a key player off the bench for the Cardinals past 2 state runner up teams and looks to step into the limelight this season. A long athletic forward, Hamilton averaged 7.7 points per game and 4.1 rebounds a game in limited time off the bench a season ago.

    6. Sebian Dillard - Henry Clay - Dillard is a transfer from St. Xavier in Louisville where he averaged 16.8 points per game a season ago. Look for him to pick up the scoring load left behind from graduation for the Blue Devils this season.

    7. Amari Taylor - Tates Creek - Taylor has battled injuries for the majority of his career but enters his senior campaign finally healthy. Taylor helped lead Tates Creek to its first regular season winning record since the 2011-12 season last year averaging 13.1 points per game.

    8. Myles Morones - Bryan Station - Morones has started for the Defenders since his freshmen season and enters this season as the leader of the Defenders. He averaged 13.4 point per game a season ago.

    9. Joe Meador - Franklin County - Meador was a relative unknown until this summer when he burst on the scene in the AAU circuit playing for MATTS Mustangs. Meador who is 6'8" with a wingspan of near 7 foot can shoot the ball from the perimeter and can challenge teams defensively.

    10. Tim Hall - Paul Laurence Dunbar - As a freshmen Hall cracked the Bulldogs starting lineup half way through the season and never left it. Maybe the best overall athlete in the region Hall will look to replace Jared Gadd's scoring output at the guard position this season for PLD.

    TEAM RANKINGS

    1. Henry Clay - The Blue Devils fell one game short of Rupp Arena last season and look to finally break through this year led by All State candidate Marques Warrick. The addition of Sebian Dillard from St. Xavier will also help to replace the scoring that graduated with Harris Hawkins and Keaston Brown. This could finally be the year Coach Daniel Brown gets his beloved Blue Devils back to Rupp Arena.

    2. Lexington Catholic - The Knights have missed the regional tournament the last 2 years, which is something most of us thought we would never hear. Ben Johnson returns after leading the team in scoring a year ago at 18.1 points per game. Look for Luke Wedding and Peyton Pelphrey to help bolster the attack for the Knights and Coach Salsman this season.

    3. Paul Laurence Dunbar - By far and away the biggest team in the region, the Bulldogs return all of their front court who is lead by 4 players standing at 6'6" and above. Look for guards Tim Hall, Max Van Dyke, and Dylan Spalding to pick up the scoring slack left behind with the graduation of Jared Gadd. The Bulldogs on paper look to be the deepest team in the region.

    4. Lafayette - The Generals return big man Ray Surratt who averaged 17.1 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game a season ago. Look for Kobe Blake to make big strides this season as well. If Coach Mendenhall can get one other player to step up the Generals could be scary good.

    5. Scott County - Billy Hicks is gone along with the starting 5 from the last two seasons! But all is not lost in Georgetown, new coach Tim Glenn has been an assistant in the program for nearly 20 years and returns a system thats proven to win and players Terrin Hamilton and Elias Richardson. I expect the Cardinals to be in the thick of things come February.

    6. Great Crossing - The newest school in the 11th Region comes into the season with a nice group of players. New coach Steve Page is no stranger to the 11th Region as he has previously served as an assistant for Frankfort High and the last few years hes run the middle school program at Scott County. Look for Michael McKenzie, KJ Tucker, and big man Jaylen Barber to help carry the load for the Warhawks who play arguably the toughest schedule in the state.... seriously go look at it!

    7. Tates Creek - The Commodores finished 14-14 last year which was their best record since 2011-12. Senior guards Amari Taylor and Cion Townsend look to lead the Commodores back to the regional tournament this season for the first time since the 2010-11 season. The only problem is they are in the 43rd District which is no fun to venture through.

    8. Frederick Douglass - Year 3 begins for the Broncos and they look to take the next step and qualify for the regional tournament. DaShawn Jackson is back after leading the team in scoring at 16.0 points per game a year ago. For the Broncos to be successful they are going to need contributions from Nathan Mack and big man Bilal Chhadh.

    9. Franklin County - The Flyers finished the season last year at 15-14 but fell to Frankfort in the district semi finals. Coach Wise and the Flyers look to break back into the regional tournament this year led by big man Joe Meador, who can play both inside and out, and football standout Zyshon Atkinson. The Flyers have sneaky depth at the big spots as well, they will challenge teams every night.

    10. Bryan Station - The Defenders struggled mightly last season only winning 6 games under first year head coach Nimbo Hammons. However, Bryan Station returns a ton of experience from a season ago with Myles Morones, James Lindsay, and Trent Grundy. Look for Station to challenge Frederick Douglass and Scott County for that second regional spot out of the 42nd District.

    11. Madison Central - Other then Scott County perhaps no team was hit harder by graduation then the Indians. Isaiah Cozart is now blocking shots at WKU and Isaiah Minter is suiting up for EKU. An Allen Feldhaus coached team is never one to count out though. Look for Kole Brown and Braeden Ray to contribute heavily this season for Madison Central.

    12. Madison Southern - The Eagles return virtually everyone for Coach Austin Newton. Led by senior forward Trent Moberly who averaged 16.4 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game a year ago. Look for Chad Fugate and Sam Lee to help bolster the scoring load as the Eagles challenge Madison Central for the 44th District championship.

    13. Lexington Christian Academy - The Eagles graduated all 5 starters from a year ago, including do it all guard/forward Kyle Rode who seems to have played for the Eagles for 10 years. New coach Ted Hall is no stranger to the sidelines having been head coach at Sayre and LCA's top assistant the last 5 years. Zeke Grier Chase Widmer are going to have to step huge for the Eagles if they want to be competitive in the 43rd District.

    14. Frankfort - The Panthers had quite possibly the best season in school history last year going 28-6 and pushing Scott County to the brink in the region semi final. Unfortunately for Coach O'Bryan, all 5 starters from a year ago are gone. However, big man Jackson Twombly is back along with senior guards Chaz Austin and Will O'Bryan. Look for Frankfort to be right there with Great Crossing and Franklin County competing to win the 41st District.

    15. Sayre - The Spartans won only 9 games a season ago but expect improvements from them this season. Led by guard Will Hairston and transfer Trey Dennis from West Jessamine, look for Coach Goodman's team to compete for the 11th Region All A title.

    16. Western Hills - The Wolverines graduated all 5 starters from a year ago and dont return much experience other then junior guard Eric Gabbard. Western Hills will get no breaks in their district and will have to grow up fast!

    17. Model - New head coach John Morgerson inherits a team with little experience. The Patriots will look to Cruse Pingelton and Josh Barrick to shoulder the scoring load this season.

    18. Berea - The Pirates lost their top 3 scorers from a season ago but do return junior Jaylen Dorsey. Coach Eric Swords will depend on his depth to be competitive this season.

    19. Frankfort Christian Academy - The Royals are in their first year of KHSAA full eligibility. Dont expect much from this group but look for them to build a solid program from the bottom up.

    DECEMBER GAMES TO WATCH

December 4th - Covington Catholic at Lexington Catholic

December 14th - Henry Clay at Bourbon County

December 19th - Great Crossing at Scott County

December 21st - Paul Laurence Dunbar vs. John Hardin at Woodford County

  7. In the conversation of Scott County/Douglass I will take Scott County everyday and twice on Sunday!!! Better coached, more disciplined, and also the biggest factor for me is there is far less drama surrounding Scott County then there is at Frederick Douglass. Having said that South Warren and Covington Catholic are going to have a lot to say with what happens in 5A this season!

  8. FCPS just posted this job on the district website this afternoon. Seth Knight in his 6 years at the helm had a 112-82 record. However in those six years the Bullldogs never made it out of the 43rd disrtict.

In those 6 years only PLD, Frankfort, and Frederick Douglass did not compete in the regional tournament. That just cant happen at a school like PLD regardless of the district you are in. Just my opinion though!
