  1. Why do you need someone to be on your tail constantly when you are a pro making millions of dollars? If you need that type of push maybe you should be let go instead of the manager.

Then they need a new gig. You're a professional making more money than the manager. It's your job!

And obviously they need pushed to do their jobs. If they didn't, Dusty would still be manager.

  2. @JeffPassan: Word filtered around last night that Dusty Baker was out. Players heard early, and while they like Dusty, they think it was the right move.

Wow, is all I can say to that...

Zero accountability. I wouldn't to manage that team.

    Spineless...

I agree. It just shocked me that the players, who Dusty went to war for (whether you liked him or not, he always had his guys back), would be cool with the move.

    Right. Sometimes to a fault.

Perhaps the players realize they need somebody like a Lou Piniella that is going to be on their tails constantly to achieve their goals as a team.

  3. Williams is either hitting coach or bench coach for the Dbacks....He's a no-nonsense kinda guy (have heard him compared to Mattingly a lot)' date=' who is considered a riser in the managerial ranks. On the short list for the Nationals job.[/quote']

He is neither. He is just their 3rd base coach. Don Baylor is hitting coach, and Alan Trammel is bench coach.

  4. I'm starting to feel sorry for those that believe statistics are the only way to determine value. You can't equate things like momentum shifts with a calculator. Some errors are more important than others. Some great plays are more important than others. Some stolen bases are huge for momentum shifts...and so on.

It's still a game being played by human beings. When robots play and everyone is equal physically, mentally and emotionally then stat away.

It's similar to hitting. It's not rotational, it's not linear...it's both.

And yes, I take some statistics pretty seriously. The only thing that truly matters offensively is Quality At-Bats. 50% or more Quality AB's and you're a pretty good hitter.

    Just my opinion.

Oh how I do love your "70's" approach.

  5. As I have come to learn in this life - Things always change for the worse - never the better.

Having the one and only state basketball trophy being the same size as the Class A classified track trophy is ludicrous.

Not having a program for cost reasons is a cop out. Programs are a nice added touch, adding to the overall class and flavor of the event. I found the old adage that "you can't tell the players without a program" to be very true at this year's state tournament.

Incidentally, the tournament moved from Memorial Coliseum to Freedom Hall in Louisville and not Rupp. It was played for years in Louisville, where the business community did fan friendly things like "fair-trading" hotel/motel room rates, before moving to Rupp. While I'm not advocating moving the event back to Louisville, the Derby City was much more fan-friendly than Lexington.

Are you upset your guys didn't make it? I've never seen anyone whose cheerios were more peed in. Man, you need a vacation.

  6. I have a feeling that the very geography of this site lends itself to readers/posters overrating NKY's talent level. Like it or not, most posters on here (whether they will admit it or not) don't have a clue about football in Lex or Lou or Cincy other than what they read on this site. C-Boy78 is absolutely correct. Let's face it, while the brand of football is very good here in NKY, it's not really as significant as we like to think it is and build it up to be on the heavily NKY biased site.
