  1. ]I think Nick Simpson and McGraw will be one of the top 2 players in the region this year[/b]. I understand with McGraw out with a back injury last year he wont have many minutes under him but watching him this summer he looks solid. Jump' date=' Shoot, Quick, and Strong. And of course we all know how good Nick is. Great shooter, ballhandler, and great D'. Go combo and will make this year for Highlands a good year.[/quote']

Saw a couple Highlands games last year before McGraw got hurt, and thought he might be as effective as Simpson? They made a heckova pair, and it will be fun to see them together again! Willie might have to run with this lineup, and abandon the old "Willie-Ball" style. They could threaten for the 9th title, especially if they come up with a big man or two!

  2. Here is Pendleton County's tentative schedule that I copied from khsaa.org. I am pretty sure they are also in the Ashland Invitational Tournament.

Should have a pretty good team this season. They are a bit undersized, but I had the chance to watch them play this summer and they play very hard. They will compete for the 38th district title.

Best players: Doug Lambert, Richard Harden, Kyle Feeback, Derrick Myers

Didn't know Pendleton and Ashland PB were in this tourney? Bird Man do you have the field for this one, it might be worth heading down AA to see some of these games? Any other NKY 10th teams in the field?

  3. Interesting, this coming from a NewCath fan.

This happens with every high school team out there. Kids quit because the competition for playing time gets tougher and tougher every year. For instance, my freshman year there were 14 kids that made the freshman team. By the time I was a senior there were only 4 of us left.

Apparently a freshman/sophmore has never made the decision to not return to a sport, concentrate on another sport they may be better at, etc. the next year at NCC, I suppose??

Mustang, other than the addition of the experienced Bundy to replace S. Code, who moved on to a head coaching job; isn't the staff the same one that's had BB on a serious run the last several years?

  4. Well by grab the smelling salts I hope you don't mean Beechwood will be knocking anyone out.. They are one of the softest hitting teams Bellevue has played this year other than Bracken and Brossart..If anything Beechwood should get them because it seems like every game they are always getting hurt, it's the simple truth Beechwood can't take a physical game...[/QUOTE]

Have to agree with UNC-5 that this is some of the greatest bulletin board material I've ever seen!! Griz, I appreciate your optimism; but this is why the Beechies stayed home in 1-A, to add to their hardware connection. They won't overlook a local team!!

  5. Sports of All Sorts in NKY is a fine facility and has hosted quite a few regional YBOA type tourneys, as well as tons of youth events. They've got 4 or 5 courts, convienently located right off I-75, and run good tournaments from what I've heard. Not had much chance to go after AAU events, as the KBA pretty much has had a lock on these; but have had some success getting participation from some very good Cincy teams in their events. Problem is NKY is a haul for Eastern and Western KY teams; but if Paducah can host a state golf tourney................

  6. Scott lost a ton of talent(which includes all five starters) to graduation. This will be a rebuilding year for the Eagles.

Both Scott and Brossart, who've been the cream of the crop in the 37th the last couple years. lost a ton to graduation. It will be interesting to see how both shape up by mid-to-late season, once the new players get some varsity seasoning. Guessing both coaching staffs will get maximum effort out of their troops, and one or both will pull a few upsets along the way! Brossart's defensive intensity should keep them in a few games, and Coach Carr's teams always play tough!

  7. They are the favorite in the 37th this year. They should get better as the year goes on as the players adjust to the new style of play and mind-set brought in by Coach Code.

They certainly hae more returning contributors than anyone in the 37th, and are rightfully the favorite. It will be interesting to see how they respond to Coach Code's more demanding physical/defensive-minded style of play, especially the older guys who were used to a less demanding style? Haven't seen their schedule yet--Are they traveling to any tourneys?

  8. I hear a couple of kids who played Freshmen and JV now don't even want to play now because of a coach

I've also heard they had a couple younger kids not coming back, but don't have your insight as to why?? Since most schools carry about 15 frosh and 15+ JV/Varsity players; I'd guess that most programs lose a few kids along the way for one reason or another, since I rarely see 30 Varsity players on a team?? Didn't Brossart's staff remain largely intact, except for Scott Code taking the head job at Campbell??

  9. In this politically correct world everyone is a winner. This new class system is a complete joke and I'm sorry to see that it has been turned into a circus. I hope the powers that be in basketball take a good hard look at this format and realize that they should keep their current system and not water it down like football.

IMO the number of teams making the playoffs is secondary to the number of champions the system crowns--Six champs out of 220 (one out of every 36 teams) teams is crazy, and heading towards "everyone gets a trophy-ville"!! I'd be for letting everyone in, but it's tough logistically, as while hoops, baseball, soccer, etc. can play every day; football needs too much recovery time.

  10. All the players and the one I am most upset about, were cut by the coach.

Because the coach thought they couldn't contribute to the Varsity, and she wouldn't allow them to play JV?? Crazy--Local teams have been littered with senior heros who saw little meanful time at the varsity level as juniors, but became huge contributors as seniors!!

  11. I don't know all the particulars in this case. But from what I've observed around the area lately it seems that the "desired" make-up of a Varsity team is generally 4 Seniors, 4 Juniors who can all contribute and 2 Sophs that are potential stars.

Then on JV it is usually the the 2 Sophs from Varsity, another 4 Sophs and 4 Frosh. Then on the Frosh team it is 6-8 Frosh and maybe some 8th graders.

Then the next year it repeats. The 4 Juniors become the 4 Seniors, the 6 Sophs are cut down to 4 Juniors, the best 2 Frosh are Sophs that play Varsity and JV, and the most of the Frosh that became Sophs are cut.

Sounds good, but how many years can you have an "ideal" situation? In NKY you've got a lot of small/medium sized schools who tend to have "good class-bad class" syndrome; and there's very often a place on the JV team for juniors, especially if the senior class is deep & talented. Where else are the juniors who will be counted on to lead the team next year, supposed to get game experience. Most schools I'm familiar with practice the JV & Varsity together, but if you're in the 7-10 range in the rotation, you still need the real game experience JV can provide.

  12. I'm confused reading this thread? Why would these girls (current juniors as I understand) be off the team, whether or not they play JV; especially after showing dedication in coming back from injuries? Were they cut, did they quit??

A blanket rule saying no juniors on JV is absurd!! As many have said, for the betterment of the program; each circumstance should be considered individually. Basically saying if a junior isn't good enough to be "in the rotation", just take the year off, and we'll bring you back next year and depend on you to win it all for us?? Makes no sense unless your goal is to thin your overall player's numbers, because unless you're projecting as a starter or top reserve, why come back for your junior year??

  13. # 1 Classy move of the night. Let's send the whole team out on the field after we scored a touchdown. Act like you have been there before, or like that TD really ment something.

#2 Have you followed Gallatin County any this year? If you had, then you would have known that the QB that started for that game was not the normal starter. If he has to play next week, because we did make the playoffs, he needs every look he can get at a different team. It is not like he went in and it was 50-0, and you had your JV in the game. Heck if we put in our JV, he is the QB.

The simple truth is they hadn't been there in about a month, and only six times in the previous 9 games; so maybe they ought to be allowed a little latitude?? It's got to be a long season for an 0-10 team, so to allow them to have a little fun in their last game might not be so bad--They got penalized as they should have, but that might fall into one of those "good penalties" catagory??

Sounds like much ado, about little, having been at this game and seeing another Brossart game this year. I'd hardly catagorize them a dirty team, in fact, they probably needed to be a lot more aggressive from what I saw.

Good luck to the Mustangs in their efforts to build their program, and congratulations to them for finally putting forth the effort to start a program. Also congrats to their fans for the support they showed throughout the year. Best of luck to Gallatin this weekend in the playoffs--Great season for such a new program!!

  14. I don't have a copy of the very latest AP Poll, but when it is released tomorrow the HAZARD BULLDOGS will be the #1 1A team in the state, in this final AP Poll of the season.... Beechwood will be second with 4 first place votes.

In 2A, NCC will be the odds-on choice as #1, while the Corbin Redhounds will hold down the #2 position.

3A will feature Belfry receving 14/15 first place votes (the other going to Central who I believe is either 6th or 7th), Breathitt County is second.

4A.. Bell County and LexCath are the odds on #1 and #2 teams.

You can guess the 5A and 6A top teams.. Highlands/BG in 5A... St.X/Trinity in 6A.

Is Hazard really a legitimate #1 team in 1A?:sssh:

Despite the records, this is a big surprise to me? BW with a couple losses, to the #1 ranked 2-A team and a "much better than their record" 5-A team; but appears to have played a much better schedule. Might not be wise to give the Tigers some added bulletin board material??
