  1. I'd consider this a big surprise, as I would have thought PC would be a decided favorite, especially at home?? They basically lost Kane and BB lost everything to graduation. Surprising margin of victory in particular. Young Mustangs must have learned something over the weekend?? Congrats to them for getting back on the winning track!!

I'm not arguing that in past years that they have played good teams, most likely better than Campbell. Because truthfully during the Rietz era they played no one unless it was a regional or district opponent that they had to play. You can go back ten years in any programand find that they played someone. I'm referring to this years lineup. They play alot of below average teams which will without a doubt produce an undeserving win-heavy record. Also i agree with an earlier post that the small local school ploy can no longer be used for Brossart. But all in all lets just agree to disagree and keep this thread alive.:p

Granted this year they obviously knew they would be rebuilding and lightened the schedule a little (no 5/3rd, no AIT, no BG/Buckeye, etc.) but still kept heavyweights such as CCH, Highlands, etc. It appears to me by heading to the Leota Massey at Deming they are concentrating on the "A" as the regional is there as well??

Regarding the earlier post about Mason, they are light years ahead of anyone else in the 10th this year; and shouldn't be challenged in the region. I know anything can happen, but it would take a monumental upset, or heaven forbid a rash of injuries for them not to win the 10th.

  3. :thumb: Brossart has played the best over the past several years and really turned the program around. I think it all started back in the Nathan Seiter era (RIP) when he established himself as one of the truly great ballers to ever play in NKY. Nice work out there and I really like the way Code coaches those kids. They play sticky man-man defense and are very physical as well. The comment about the kid crying should have been left out IMO.

  4. You obviously either don't fully understand the rivalry or you are a Brossart fan. A losing streak like that being broken brings out alot of emotion. Not to mention the trash that the Brossart fans/players talked after the game. Saying that we got lucky and it won't happen again. Most Brossart fans/players cant accept the fact that they got beaten by a better team, and that they aren't on top anymore. That usually breeds from having a weak schedule that makes you believe your better than you are.:argue:

Since you've chosen me to :argue: with, I guess I better respond?? I too know many fans on both sides, as well as with other district rivals of both teams. None, again none of them expected Brossart to win the game, and most doubted they could keep it under double digits--They just lost too much and return too little experience!! The prediction thread had zero folks pick the Mustangs, and most thought it would be a game in the mid to high teens. I went simply because it's a great atmosphere and a fun game which approximates a district/regional tourney game.

How could anyone argue that the Camels "got lucky"? They had the game in hand from start to finish as expected. Every BB fan I talked to conceded that the Camels were the better team this year, and deserved to win. They (and I) expect them to be back in the next couple years, and I would suspect Campbell to improve as well. You just can't give Scott Code 800 boys to chose from and not expect long term success??

The only thing I would really :argue: with you about is your comment regarding Brossart's easy schedule?? My friend you've just shown complete lack of understanding of basketball and the history of NKY hoops with that statement. The last ten years I'd argue no single A team in the area, and few in the state, have played the caliber of opponents that the Mustangs have played. The 10th region opponents alone in recent years would qualify your statement as ridiculous?? Mason County, Clark County, Pendleton County, Covington Catholic, Lexington Catholic, NCC, Holy Cross, the Fifth Third Classic, Ashland Invitational, Bluegrass/Buckeye, etc. year in, year out. If I had time I'd go back and probably prove they've played far tougher schedules than Campbell.

Again hats off to Campbell for breaking a streak that obviously had bothered them significantly, but let's keep it in perspective--They beat a small local school in a total rebuilding mode--Nothing more, nothing less??

  5. I've not watched Scotty Hopson play so I can't speak to his abilities. However, I can't imagine that he's actually better than Darius Miller. He had 24/12/5 without much effort last night. Unlike many big scorers, he didn't force anything. He took what was there. IF he wanted to, he could have gotten to the rim everytime but I'd imagine the coach isn't interested in having the other 4 be spectators especially when you've got the other weapons they have.

Oh yeah, D's little sister also got in my pocket as well raising money for a smartboard. Can't say no to cute little girls.

Athletically they may be close, but basketball-wise, attitude-wise they're in different leagues!! Darius makes everyone around him better and seems to actually enjoy playing defense; while Hopson's idea of "D" is to try for a spectacular block and then turn & run down for a breakaway.

  6. A few thoughts and comments:

    1. Mason County is a very, very good team, Darius is for real and so is #24. I'd be surprised if they did not win state

    2. If CovCath can make free throws and not make really, really obvious turnovers, the game never gets to a 25 point deficit.

    3. I'm sorry, the Fieldhouse is nice, but with the hype it is given, I didn't think it was that special. Ryle's gym in Union is just a big and just a nice. Am I missing something?

    3. Luke Maile was the only CovCath player not afraid of Darius

Ryle's gym is much newer, but I think "nicer" is a subjective comment? Capacity of Ryle is 3000, while the Fieldhouse is "listed" at 5400, but has routinely seen a lot more come 10th region tourney time.

  7. Must be some method to that madness of playing larger and tougher schools in the regular season? Sacrifice your record for a state championship--Congrats to Central on peaking at the right time!! Should have seen this one coming late in the season with a respecable loss to X and the close loss to Highlands!!

  8. 21 point blowout that could have been worse. Albrecht missed most of the game due to a bloody nose but when he was in he was a dominating force. Nerl had stellar game putting up 18 points and around 8 blocks (seriously) one of which made Joe Webb cry. Nerl had a great defensive night all around with his 8 blocks and a few steals. Huge win for the camels, brossart never had a chance.:dancingpa

No horse in this race, but is this really necessary?? Your team won, apparently for the first time in quite a while; but this type of talk won't endear your team to the NKY fans, if you truely are back?? Win with class--Lose with class!! I guarentee Scott Code wouldn't be proud of this type of "support" from his fans??

  9. Great atmosphere at CCMS tonight.....

Ryan, Matt and Ben stepped up big while Petey was out of the game with the nose issue. Nerl solid offensive performance tonight and he had some huge blocks down the stretch....CAMELS "D" thus far is for real. Tonight there was just too much CAMEL offense and the MUSTANGS, at least at this point in the season, don’t have the offense to play comeback. MUSTANGS play strong "D"....#10 for the MUSTANGS played great "D" all night.....really somewhat surprised to see CAMELS win big especially with their big guy being out most of the game. Just shows how well they are playing as a team. Now, while I know it is a great win for them they still had a lot of mistakes (too many unforced errors) some were MUSTANGS "D" but majority was CAMELS doing it to themselves. With a very young team(s) look forward to both the CAMELS and MUSTANGS getting better as the season progresses. Would love to see CAMELS -vs- MUSTANGS playing in the District Finals.

Congrats to the CAMELS team for a breaking the streak and taking care of business tonight.....keep improving boys!

    What was the streak?

  10. Congrats to Campbell on breaking the Mustangs win streak tonight. Great atmosphere for a HS hoops' game with both sides hoppin'!! Too much offense from Campbell for the "O" challenged Mustangs to overcome, and credit to the Camels' "D" effort as well.

As expected Scott Code has reintroduced Campbell to the defensive end of the court, and they seem to feed off of that effort on the other end as well. Nerl and Albreicht as advertised, and Nerl in particular seems to have matured greatly as an athlete. Both Franzens had very good games also.

Best of luck to both squads the rest of the way!!

  11. Unbelieveable game!! Congrats to the Beechwood Tigers on #10 and hats off to LCA on a heckova effort!! I was another that thought LCA would hang around for a half and BW would wear them down in the 2nd? I can't believe how young LCA is at the key skill positions, they'll be tough the next several years. Easy to say now, but I would have tied the game on 4th down, as BW wasn't playing that well on offense late in the game, and LCA was on fire.

  12. You could hear the bias in voice. Also, one made a comment that Beechwood is a "Public Private School" and that's another can of worms. Always referring to Hayden (of LCA) as the D-Train makes it sound like you eat dinner with the fella. That's not always the case when you call people by their nicknames, but it sounded like he was doing it in a rooting way.

It's not like the announcers made a difference in the game, but it was strange to hear them.

I was starting to question if I was listening to a LCA internet broadcast, although having listened to a lot of those here in NKY; none of those up here are that biased?? One more "D-TRAIN".....................................and I think I might have lost my lunch???? Also agree about the comments about the Beechwood school, their weight room, etc. insinuating they had an unnatural advantage of some sort!! Really weak and quite disappointing for so-called professional announcers!!
