  1. I think the Lady Birds better wake up or they will be left at home come tourney time..They haven't played good the past few games.. I wonder what is going on???:idunno:

I won't argue that Highlands wasn't at their best last night, but give St. Henry some credit; I think their defensive pressure and intensity on both ends caught Highlands by surprise !!!!

  2. Yes there is a new coach. And yes they should be VERY competitive this year. I have voiced part of my opinion on "what their problem" is. I would love to hear from anyone who has been to a Dixie game. What have you seen and what do you think is going on? It is not the players lack of effort. They are working as hard as they are "allowed" to work. What can it be?? Please....anybody!?

From an "outside" perspective, it appears to me as though you have some players that are more concerned about their personal stats and large ego's than they are about the team. Dixie has talent and athleticism, but hasn't learned that it's a team game. Perhaps they should go watch Conner play a few games and see what a difference team play makes.

    Just my opinion....

    :walk:

  3. Was at the scrimmage tonight and Ryle won 65-62. From what I saw tonight anyone who plays Ryle this year better come to play. They are quick, athletic, strong, and can shoot the basketball. This team will get after you and not let up. Much better than the Ryle team that I saw play last

    season in the District Tournament.

So, inquiring minds want to know, did the Moss girl play for Ryle last night ??

  4. The group of girls for Dixie this year have been together since middle school and they're going to make some noise in the 9th. The new coaching staff combined w/ the talent, drive, and dedication of these girls will make them definitely in the top 10. The addition of St. Henry to the 34th District just means an extra game. The Lady Colonels have won the 34th District 4 years in a row and I know that the five seniors on this team are wanting that 5th year BAD!

My point was Dixie is a good team and will certainly contend for a 34th district title, but does not have the talent or depth to make noise in the 9th Region...

Last year Dixie posted 20+ point losses to Holy Cross, Highlands, Conner, Notre Dame, and Boone County. Once again, unless they have some transfers or incoming Freshman that can make a BIG impact, I don't see them "making noise" in the 9th region. (just my opinion) ;)

As for that "extra game" you were referring to, it resulted in a 17 point loss to the St. Henry Lady Cru last year. :flame:

  5. Do you think rating Dixie Heights 10th is accurate? They have a new coaching staff with some great fresh ideas this year. They have several talented returning players with several years of varsity experience, and a lot of heart and determination. It seems they could truly make some noise in the 9th!

I think a "top ten" ranking for Dixie was generous !!!! From what I saw of Dixie last year, unless they have some SUPER freshman coming in, I don't see them making much noise in the 9th Region. If you're speaking of the District, in my opinion it should be a very interesting year with Dixie, Ludlow, St. Henry, and Villa all battling for a District title. I just don't see any of these teams beating a Highlands or other top team in the Region..... I agree that Dixie has some talent, just not the depth to compete with the top programs. Their Guard play is above average, but they are lacking in the Post.

  6. A hard fought battle and an exciting game from start to finish. Congratulations to Highlands, who once again proved they are capable of winning the big games. A lot of talent on the field for the Birds, very impressive. I do want to also congratulate the St. Henry Lady Cru. I thought they came out the first half a little tentative, not playing with a lot of confidence. I think the second half and overtime periods were a different story, with St. Henry giving Highlands all they could handle. I've got to believe that Highlands did not expect St. Henry to test them the way they did. St. Henry is a young team with a promising future (started 5 sophomores).

Once again, congratulations to Highlands, go win STATE !!!!:dancingpa

  7. Are they good enough to get by Dixie and win a district title, which they have not been able to do in recent seasons?

Don't forget that the ST. Henry Lady Cru are now in the same District with Ludlow, Dixie and Villa. Should be a closely contested District this year with all 4 teams having a chance of winning. I wouldn't disagree that Ludlow should be considered the "favorite" to win, but I think the other 3 teams are very capable of stepping up and beating them.

  8. Thanks. When SHDHS had the run a few years ago with that strong class, did they play other sports? I thought they played club v-ball.

Both Niemer and Luckman were part of that run that included "back to back" state runner-up in volleyball 2005 & 2006, losing in the finals to an Assumption team that I believe was ranked # 1 in the Nation. Both Niemer and Luckman are currently playing DI volleyball but had several college offers to play basketball.

Niemer was voted Big East freshman of the year playing volleyball at UC. These 2 girls were also part of the SHDHS that upset Boone County two years ago to win the District in basketball. That team also included Emily Robinson & Kasey Gamm, who both went on to play college soccer.

  9. I don't think its a problem to get girls to play sports. I think its a problem to get girls to play multiple sports. In NKY at volleyball powers such as NDA and maybe SHDHS, you don't play any other sport. Its high school vball followed by club vball. No options.

I can't speak for NDA, but that is not the case at SHDHS. With little exception, all the girls that are currently playing and have graduated in recent years are multiple sport athletes. As a matter of fact, the leading scorer and MVP's from the past few years have been volleyball players (Niemer & Luckman to name two). I also know for a fact that many of the girls currently playing basketball also play soccer, softball, and run track. There are several of the girls that participate in 3 different Varsity sports.

  10. Any updates on this one?

Unfortunately no !!!! No updates and not much effort seen in recruiting or hiring a new coach. I have not seen the job posted or advertised. Not sure it's a "PRIORITY" with the school Admin. St. Henry has to be the only girl's varsity team in the 9th region that is not participating in any summer camps. I guess we shouldn't expect anything more, after all, it's just girl's basketball.

  11. Ammerman (jr), Drees (jr) Oddonnel (jr), Knoll (jr), Woreland (jr), Hill (so), Pemberton (so),

All talentented players who will see Varsity time. Ammerman already played some good solid varsity minutes last season. Hill and Pemberton played JV as freshmen and all will compete for varsity minutes as well as the other jrs. 12 solid players is a luxury for any high school.

What were the records for JV & Freshman teams last year ? The talent pool compared to previous years seems a little weak. Did not see the JV & Freshman teams competing well in the end of year tournaments that they have historically dominated. For Notre Dame's sake, I hope they have a "strong" incoming Freshman class.

  12. St Henry comes off a 9-16 record in Region 9. What must they do to compete with the bigger schools?

The just announced coaching change may prove to be a "good thing", as attitude and player morale seemed to be lacking. Both the JV and Freshman teams played well last year and the talent seems to be there. It will be an interesting year !!!!

  13. Once St. Henry lost their talented senior class...he left. He walked in to a loaded LC team with a lot of talent. The last of that talent (Novosel - ND & Green - UTEP) is graduating and the LC pipeline doesn't look promising...so he left. If LC is not dominating and competing for championships the drive to Lexington probably feels even longer.

HC got a good coach...just keep the pipeline of talent full.

"St. Henry lost their talented senior class... he left."

This statement is far from the truth, St. Henry was returning 4 of 5 starters and 5 of the top 7 players from the year he left.... Jeff left St. Henry for an opportunity he thought would be best for his family and career. He did not leave the program because of a lack of talent. Best of luck to him and his family, he is a great coach and a good person...

  14. True.....

I guess that at this point in the season, I am just tired of the constant line of crap yelled at officials...they are talked to like animals. I hate it.

For those of you that don't know, I am NOT an official.

Agree totally !!!!! It's get very old having to listen to obnoxious parents, screaming at officials and instructing players (as if they couldn't make a decision without the parent's instruction) on every single play... Yes, the officiating is far from perfect, but rarely has any impact on the result of the game. Isn't it amazing how the fans from the respective teams tend to have different opinions of how a game was officiated????

It has to be embarrassing for the kids, but I'm assuming with that mentality, it's all about the parents, and little regard for the kids....

PLEASE, JUST SHUT UP AND LET THEM PLAY BALL !!!!!!

  15. Go ahead and base your assessment on one game. I will base mine on a whole season. Ryle wins the 2 biggest tournaments this year. They were the best team this year. As always in girls bball it is very hard to predict the future. Girls quit, they transfer, some are already physically mature as 8th graders. If I had to pick a team of the future, I'd go with Conner.

No argument that Ryle was one of the better freshman teams, perhaps the best freshman team..... Can't agree that they were "heads and shoulders better" or a dominate team. By the way, that assessment is based on the 3 Ryle games I attended, not 1 game.

  16. Ryle was heads and shoulders the best frosh team in NKY. WV had a very nice team. Don't know if it would have mad a difference, but Highlands was down 3 players and their coach the night they went down to Walton.

"Ryle was heads and shoulders the best frosh team in NKY" ????? Watched many girls freshman games, including St. Henry freshman beating Ryle @ Ryle earlier this year..... I would say Walton stands out, especially when you consider the age/grade of the majority of their players. If Ryle had moved 8th graders to Frosh team, opposed to Varsity, yes they would have been head and shoulers better.... Got to believe Ryle and Walton are going to dominate girls basketball in NKY in future years.

  17. This probably will be a really physical game, a lot like last time. I expect it to be close most of the game. The key of the game will be turnovers IMO. If Ludlow avoids having a lot of turnovers, then Ludlow should win this game, because Ashley Daughtery probably will put up her normal type of game. I think Ludlow wins this game by around a 6 to 8 point margin...

    Ludlow 48

    St. Henry 41

If St Henry "double downs" on Daughtery each time the ball enters the post, then St. Henry should come away with a win. The key for St Henry is limiting Daughtery to less than 15 points, and then I like their chances. I think the first meeting was a great learning experience for a young Crusaders team...

Should be an interesting game !!!!!

  18. I'm going to throw in my 2 cents worth. I've watched this team for the past 6 years plus. Not sure why Lubbe was asked to stop coaching at WV but it seemed like they were looking for a "woman" coach. I believe they even ask the JV Coach Ame Burger to take the job but she refused. I heard they were looking for a person who also had to be a full time teacher also. I don't believe that they looked very hard. The current coach Rosin. I believe this is her first year as a varsity coach. She's very young and inexperienced. She doesn't have the respect of the girls because of her coaching skills and personality. I've seen other teams in the 8th region replace coaches and not have the struggle that WV has. Example: Look at Gallatin. They have replaced their coach several years ago and they have a young coach, Coach Roberts. She seems to be respected and coaches a tuff game and the team plays well together. They have improved a lot since she took over. She has great coaching skills as a young coach and knows her team. I hate to say it but WV coaching lacks coaching skills and knowing her teams strengths and weaknesses even if they are a average team. When this happens, it effects the whole team. She misses some of the basic things that leaves lots of people wondering what is going on. I've also heard talk from some upcoming team members parents that they are concerned about the program and they are not sure if they want their daughters involved.

    It's sad to watch.

We feel your pain at St Henry District High School !!!!! A very similar situation with coach Jeff Hans departing for Lexington Catholic and the hiring of an inexperienced coach as replacement. St. Henry goes from a 21-8 season to a 9-19 season after returning 4 of 5 starters. I'm not suggesting that the girls and parents attitude did not play a factor, but the coaching also played a significant part. SHDHS also has loads of young talent in the Freshman class and "feeder" school programs, but without some change in direction they will continue their struggle to win games and attract the more talented players from the feeder schools...... Yes, we feel your pain ....

  19. Just curious, in looking at the brackets for the all A in the ninth region, you have the top ranked teams including NCC, Holy Cross, Ludlow, and ST Henry all grouped together in a bracket. You also have NCC playing Holy Cross (arguably the best 2 A teams in the region) in round 1 with the winner then playing Beechwood (Beechwood has BUY in round 1). In the other bracket you have Newport,Bellevue,Dayton and Villa grouped together. Villa has a Buy in round 1 & 2, with a single win putting them in the Championship game. It's quite obvious you will not have the two top teams in the Finals. How are these brackets decided upon ??? It certainly can't be "seated" ?????
