  1. I heard (from a very reliable source) that this is true. Ryle has 11 girls (COMBINED) for JV/Varsity. I also heard they had 6 girls come out for the Freshman team. :idunno:
  2. I heard the same thing. Ryle lost a lot from last year's team: 2 Graduated. 7 Varsity players decided not to play at Ryle this year.
  3. I think she got some help from a player named Lisa Leslie. Nicole & Lisa combined for an average of 24 ppg in the 2001 Finals. http://www.wnba.com/sparks/stats/2001/wnba_finals_stats.html
  4. You seem to know Boone County High School history as well as anyone here. So, I have a question for you (or anyone else that might know). How many years has it been since Boone DID NOT have at least one transfer student on the team? I know they have a minimum of a six year stretch going on right now.
  5. Other than highlighting the "fact" that Boone County High School is an academic sleeping giant, I'm not sure what your point might be. Are you suggesting this family chose to transfer due to the fact that Boone offers AP classes that Ryle doesn't? Seriously?
  6. It would be interesting to see how many years you would have to go back in order to find a team that she didn't have at least one transfer on the team.
  7. Ryle is known for their strong academic program. Ryle is rated (Newsweek Magazine) as one of the top 1000 schools in America. Boone is not. That being the case, I am still looking for a rational "academic/social" reason that a family would choose to move their child from Ryle to Boone. I could understand moving to Notre Dame or Villa Madonna for academic/religious reasons. Maybe even St. Henry. But not Boone.
  8. Interesting. I am interested in learning some of the "academic/social" reasons that a family would choose to move their child from Ryle to Boone. Could you (or anyone else) name a few reasons?
  9. Moss officially at Boone County By: Adam Kiefaber • Posted on: 9/8/2009 7:28:26 AM It is official, sophomore basketball star Sydney Moss will be playing for Boone County. I spoke with Boone County coach Nell Fookes during the Scott County/Boone County football game Friday and she confirmed that Moss' paperwork from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association came in last week. Moss, who has gained national media attention because her father is NFL star Randy Moss, is a great basketball player in her own right. She started as a seventh grader for Heritage, before transferring to Ryle to start as eighth grader. Last season, she didn't play much at Ryle for coach Patti Oliverio, for undisclosed reasons. Ironically, Oliverio coached under Fookes at Boone County and at Eastern Kentucky University. The addition helps Fookes who lost star point guard Jacy Bradley to graduation. Bradley is currently getting ready to play basketball at Saint Louis University of the Atlantic 10. Coaches Aid will have more on this story...Stay tuned. http://www.coachesaid.com/Blog/Adam-Kiefaber-5/2009/9/8/Moss-officially-at-Boone-County Interesting. Sydney Moss played 13 games for Ryle last year. http://preps.cincinnati.com/playerStats.aspx?sp=100&pid=62925&b=0&y=2008 From what I understand, the family has not moved out of the Ryle School District. Why wouldn't this student/athlete have to sit out a year after a transfer to Boone? Anyone here have any reasonable explanation for this ruling?
  10. Marty Petroze was at St. Henry until they hired Shannon Turner. I think that was for the 2006/2007 season. If I remember correctly, he moved to ND in the Fall of 2006. Three years ago.
  11. Who would these "highly respected basketball people" be? :idunno:
  12. Each of the three coaches at Ryle have daughters on the team. Six parents. Three players. One ball. Oh, Boy.:ohbrother:
  13. Let's take a look at last year's 20 win season. NDA won 20 and lost 12. Of the 12 losses, 8 were to teams outside of Northern Kentucky. (Lost to NCC, Ryle, and two times to Highlands) I do give NDA credit for creating a challenging schedule with 16 games against top notch teams from around the state. I think that's the right thing to do IF you want to be competitive at tournament time. However, I think it's interesting to note that NDA only won 8 of the 16 games against teams outside of Northern Kentucky. On the other hand, NDA won 12 and lost 4 against teams from Northern Kentucky. It seems that the NDA staff realized that it's not good enough to stay home and beat up on teams from Northern Kentucky. And, they didn't "Cherry Pick" games to pad their schedule. I think they have the right idea.... and I think it's part of what sets them apart from many other teams in Northern Kentucky.
  14. I'm not following your line of reasoning. What makes you think he didn't make suggestions that influenced the results at ND & St. Henry? The reality is this: If I had the opportunity to hire Marty as a head coach.... I would. My main point is this: Why would you only consider hiring a coach who has already been a head coach in Northern KY? Swapping one head coach for another every few years (in a region that has never been competitive on a state level) is like rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic. It's not going to change the outcome of this story....
  15. TOPIC: "1.) Is NKY basketball overrated?" 2.) "What is the reason for the lack of success of NKY teams at the state tournament?" DISCUSSION: 1.) "Northern KY is unique in the fact that they lose basketball players to the evil influence of volleyball." 2.) "Pendleton County is approximately a 30 minute drive to Calvary Christian." 3.) "Soccer (especially club soccer) is very, very bad." I think "ladiesbballcoach" asked a very important question. A question that deserves a well thought out answer. Maybe we could get back on topic.
  16. “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. Northern Kentucky has never produced a coach that has been able to compete at the state level. Given that fact, why would Notre Dame even consider someone that used to coach at Brossart, Silver Grove, Ludlow, NCC, or anywhere else that has been mentioned here? I would go with fresh talent. IF he wants the job, Marty Petroze would be my man. He understands the game better than anyone else in the area. And, he knows how to get the very best out of a player. I guarantee Marty Petroze would aim to be competitive on a state level, not just a Region 9 level.
  17. Marty Petroze doesn't seek the spotlight.... but, he's probably the best coach in Northern Kentucky.
  18. No nerve was struck. I don't coach. I just observe. I think it's very weak to assign blame to the AAU coaches who are donating their time. This is especially true when there are obviously so many knowledgeable people in the stands. Did these knowledgeable people somehow get cheated out of an AAU coaching opportunity? LOL! It's easy to point fingers. It can be difficult to come up with honest solutions.
  19. I don't remember hearing/reading anything about the KY/OH All-Star game. Obviously, the KY/OH game is not nearly as prestigious as the IN/KY game. And, the IN/KY game is the topic of this thread. As far as being "negative negative negative!!!"... If you witnessed the games this past weekend - can you think of anything positive to say? Accusing the AAU coaches of being the source of the problem is pretty weak. "Some "think" they can coach" - This is a pretty easy accusation to make from the stands. Don't you wonder why all the brilliant minds are in the stands and not on the bench? I would suggest that the high school coaches need to get the middle school coaches "on board" with what needs to be taught. Again, all I hear/read are excuses - never any suggestions for a solution. If there is no interest in trying to be competitive with Indiana, then I guess there is no need to continue this thread.
  20. Interesting Theory. So, you are using the worlds two greatest super powers (USA & China) to represent Indiana? And, you are using Third World Countries (Honduras and Bangladesh) to represent Kentucky? Interesting position for a Kentucky fan to take. But, that's your prerogative. Size is an issue when you are comparing China to Honduras. So is nutrition, training facilities, genetics, coaching, etc.... Not so much when you are comparing Indiana & Kentucky! LOL! If you were to be perfectly honest with yourself, you would have to admit that size is not the only issue with the Indiana/Kentucky problem. Nor is it a major issue. If size was the biggest determinant in an outcome of a game... then how do you explain the beat-down Elizabethtown (700) put on Henderson County (2,010)? So, back to the original point: I have yet to see a single person mention anything about what Kentucky has to do to raise the level of their game. Again, all I have read is excuses. The population excuse is convenient. It covers what has happened in the past.... and what will happen in the future. What I am looking for is this: How do you improve the level of play in the state of Kentucky?
  21. Interesting excuse. The population figures are going to be approximately the same this time next year. So, if you are going to adhere to this line of thinking.... should Kentucky just concede next years games now?
  22. OK, I it only takes a couple minutes to gather some quick facts. Let's look at some of the biggest schools in Indiana: Indianapolis North Central - Enrollment: 3,240 2009 W/L Record: 7/13 Lake Central - Enrollment: 3,141 2009 W/L Record: 12/10 Indianapolis Pike - Enrollment: 2,900 2009 W/L Record: 7/13 Portage - Enrollment: 2,600 2009 W/L Record: 13/8 Lawrence Central - Enrollment: 2,500 2009 W/L Record: 10/10 These are 5 of the 10 biggest schools in the state. As you can see, just because a school is big does not mean they are going to be talented. If the "Big School Theory" were to hold true, then how do you explain Iroquois (1,235) and Elizabethtown (700) in the state finals? Where was Henry Clay (2,150)? Iroquois is almost twice the size of Elizabethtown. Is that fair? Elizabethtown (700) Thumped Henderson County (2,010)! The "Big School Theory" is nothing more than a straw man fallacy.
  23. Are you saying that Indiana kids are simply born with MORE talent? LOL! Interesting theory. I have to add this quote to my list of bizarre excuses!
  24. Indiana's dominance in the Indiana/Kentucky All-Star series has led to a lack of interest in the game. There's an article in the Indianapolis Star that says The Star will probably continue to sponsor the game, but there are a lot of questions about whether The Star will be able to continue running the event. The article goes on to say "if this series is going to continue, there must be some kind of arrangement that eases the burden on The Star, which, like every newspaper, has fallen upon hard times." That's sad to see. I have heard, and read, a lot of Kentucky excuses. Some are bizarre: "We only had one week to practice". (So did Indiana) "She was going against some big wingspan kids when they went to trapping." "Indiana's guards were so much bigger than any guard we had on our team". "They were big and quick and tough to blow by them on the dribble." Well, what did you expect to find in an All-Star game? Bottom Line: I didn't hear, or read, anything about what Kentucky has to do to raise the level of their game. Here's a thought: Indiana had 3 of the top 4 teams in the Country this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/basketball/girls/news/story?id=4031870 All 3 teams are within easy driving distance from Northern Kentucky. So, how many Northern Kentucky coaches went to see any of these teams play? You know - Try to figure out what they are doing that could help your team? Talk with their coaches. Pick their brain. If the drive is too much effort - Cincinnati had a team ranked #11. If a coach didn't go see these teams play - then why didn't they? Do they think they already know all they need to know about basketball? Do they consider it good enough to be "dangerous" in Northern Kentucky? How much glory can there be in the fact that you have the best team in Northern Kentucky... but never able to compete on a state level... in a state that can't compete with Indiana? I ask because I don't understand the mentality.
