  1. I don't think his offense is there yet. He is a good player. If he starts making more jump shots then I would say he is ready. He isn't a great shooter. He hustles to get a lot of his scores and rebounds. I'm sure he would do okay but may struggle at first because of NBA physical play.

MKG will get to the foul line a ton in the league. That can make up for a lack of a jumpshot. He's a typical young wing prospect for the NBA draft. Almost all of the really good one's lately have had to add a jumpshot. Guys that are great shooters at this stage seem to be guys with limited athletic ability for the NBA level, like Eric Gordon. Gordon is a stud but his ceiling isn't as high as I would think MKG's would be. For as good a shooter as Durant is now, even he had alot to work on as a rookie. At worst I think MKG will end up a guy on a similar tier of guys like Josh Smith or Rudy Gay. JMO

  2. Not disagreeing. This whole thing started because I said I wasn't sure Dalton could win a shootout against a good QB. I would say Smith won a shootout. Is that a fair statement?

    True.

For sure something to look at. My point is and has been top 10 defense stats in the NFL are strictly based on yards allowed. That's flawed for many reasons. One you mentioned. Another is and I think it's the biggest, yards allowed depends more on schedule than even how good your D is. Houston was very good on yards allowed. I'd say playing Jacksonville and Indy 4 times helped more than just how good they played.
All stats need to be looked at in a vacuum. Advanced analytical stats would tell more of the whole story, which is why the NBA is probably better at showing which players are most valuable in certain situations. The NBA PER, gamescore, tightly contested percentage, etc. all tell more of a true story than NFL stats can.

GMs and front office execs in the NBA focused on this in the last decade. Until alot more research is done in football, stats will never tell the whole story. For my money, San Francisco has one of the five best defenses in the league.

  3. No doubt, I'm still kind of surprised that Thomas is leaving.

I'm disappointed. He could have used next year to improve his draft stock. He's in alot of trouble in the league. He doesn't like to run the ball so its not like he could be used as a Brad Smith type and I don't think he's polished enough to play QB in the league. Someone will draft him and hope he's another Seneca Wallace a guy that could some in for half a game or two and keepthe status quo.

  4. They played great and had 32 hung on them. You still have to score to win. The key was getting two huge offensive drives to come from behind in the last 4 minutes of the game IMO.

Now the NYG's D was the key to their win.

They had 32 hung on them sure, but they were going against teh best offense in the league IMO. Add in the fact that the Sproles TD and the Graham TD at the end were kind of fluky in an NFL sense and their defense wasn't that bad. If their offense was really good they would have won by 30.

  5. I'm not saying having good defenses isn't nice. I'm saying grading them by yards allowed isn't a good gouge. For sure the teams with better D's won this week except Denver but they are fatally flawed on Offense. It all comes down to turnovers and QB passer rating differential not yards allowed.

Depends IMO. Rushing YPC and yards allowed per game are an effective way to look at rush defense. Its a stat college and NFL coaches use to evaluate how effective their rush defense is. Passing stats can be flawed because if you win alot, the passing stats against your defense will be higher because teams will be passing more on you. So I sort of agree.

  6. May not be, I'm just saying he's going to end up being that "type" of player. Mo Williams is another that comes to mind, not saying as good as Mo, but that "type" of player. That guy thats going to be able to come in and score the ball and be able to play a little point if forced to.

Again, if Jodie Meeks can make it in the league, Lamb can make it in the league.

Jodie was also a 20 PPG scorer in college and is bigger. Lamb is a tweener that would get destroyed by NBA PGs, and I don't think he could guard NBA 2s either. Either Williams can create their own shot, and I don't see DoRo being able to do that at the next level because he cannot consistently do it in college. I hope I'm wrong, but I think he's going to have a tough time.
  7. This game and the Pitt game last week just prove that in today's NFL defense doesn't matter. To win you need to score points. SF played great to an extent on D yesterday and the Saints hung 32 on them with 4 turnovers.

The thing that matters most on D is turnovers and pressuring the QB with just 4 rushing the passer

Defense doesn't matter? San Fran forced 5 TOs, without that they would have been destroyed. The offense played well too, but the defense was the key to their game yesterday.

  8. Still not sure I agree, Crawford maybe but Bradley still isn't as good of scorer as Lamb is right now. Bradley will likely never leave the Israeli league and Lamb will at least get to sniff the NBA and should be a long time NBA player by the time its all said and done. Crawford was a good scorer but it will hard for him to get back into the league, made a few summer rosters but thats been about the extent of his time in the NBA. You guys equate numbers too much as a indication of talent evaluation. Lamb is surrounded by far more talent than either of those two were, even with Rondo and Morris, he doesn't look as impressive because he isn't called on to do as much. All Lamb really does is look for the three, his scoring is much more diverse than that and he has shown it. Has a good runner/floater, good mid range, good perimeter shot, he can definitely find a way to be efficient in the NBA, like I alluded to in an earlier post I could see him being a Louis Williams type player.

He's not the scorer that Williams is IMO. Lamb is going to have a tough time in the league no matter when he leaves unless he just goes to the perfect roster.

  9. I think Lamb wants to and will. I don't think he should. I think Davis and Gilchrist kind of have to, Jones needs another year but will probably go.

If Teague goes I think he's making a bad decision. People are really hard on him around BBN, but I think he can become a really good PG with another year or two in college.

  10. How many games has Drew Brees won on the road in the playoffs? It's amazing how different of a team they are in the dome, and on the road. At home they really are the best team in football.

In all honesty, he probably hasn't played too many playoff road games, but I get your point. The best shot anyone has to beat the Saints is to play them at home. At night, in New Orleans it is tough to beat the Saints.

I think the one thing that this shows is that coaching does really play a BIG PART in how a QB will do. I used that argument many times during our Palmer debates, and people really sold it short on how much coaching really does play in it. People like Brees, and Rodgers have great offensive minds for their head coach. Alex Smith has had 7 OC's in his time as a QB, and the one other good year he had was with Norv Turner. Now he has Jim Harbaugh who definitely knows the QB spot obviously, and he is showing what he can do with the right coaching. Coaching plays a huge part in a player reaching its potential especially at QB. So I know I am happy for Alex Smith just like you are. He has had to deal with a lot of crap, especially considering the things he went through learning new offenses every year.

    Back to Palmer, sigh .

Seriously though, with what Harbaugh did at Stanford and now with San Fran doesn't he have to be considered one of the best coaches going? What would he do with a team as full of talent as the Packers? Would that even be fair?

  11. This Olympic team is going to be epic. I don't know that it has the depth of the '92 team in terms of how guys careers may look when they are finished, but they are way younger and they will benefit from many of them playing on the same team IMO. The Big 3, Westbrook & Durant, CP3 and Blake Griffin. It won't take much for them to be ready to go. There really is no reason for any team to play them closely.

  12. I'm going off on a tangent here but, watching the game last night, I concluded that Darius Miller can make it in the NBA. I think he has the body, basketball skills and temperament to be a role player and a good teammate.

I think Darius will play in the NBA. He's versatile, can hit the outside shot, and knows his role. He is the very poor man's Shane Battier.
