  1. Its nice to see 16th region teams trying to accomodate each other, but at this point in the season a coach must look after his own. 4 games in a week is asking too much of any team this close to tourney time IMO.

That was my point. I know the Ashland staff would gladly accomodate the Lady Royals under normal circumstances but the Feb 12th proposal causes 4 games in 5 days and that is a lot for any coach to agree to so close to the post season. Granted, you have to win 3 games in a short time to win the region but you also want to be fresh going into the post season.

  2. QUOTE=CatsCatsCats;2628486]Clemmons was a beast tonight. Ate the Comets up. West was down by 20 some before cutting the lead to 8 in the forth, but couldn't completely get back into the game. West was ice cold and careless with the ball in the first half, Bath took advantage. Clemmons is a top 3 player in the region IMO. Side note the officiating was horrible in this one...but wasn't the reason West lost.[/QUOTE]

First let me say I have no idea who officiated this game but after looking at the box score in todays Independent, I assume one of them might have been Jim Hicks old college roommate.......Personal Fouls: BATH 19 WEST 23 (same disparity in foul calls in the Bath/Rose Hill game) Free Throws: BATH 25 of 35 WEST 15 of 24 (similar disparity in free throws from Bath/Rose Hill) Bath MAKES more free throws than West attempts.....If you remember when these stats went the other direction in favor of Baths opponent then it was inferred by Bath fans and coaches that somthing deceitful must be going on....The question was asked, "How can the foul shots be so lopsided?"

Here we see the same thing.....My point is that just because the fouls and/or free throws are not even does not in any way indicate the consistency or quality of the officiating. You cant have it both ways....when you lose with such stats you blame the officials then when you win with such stats you want to take credit for the win.....cant be both ways.

    Now that's a great post!!

Wonder how Bigcat08 feels about this post?? Maybe the last name of one of the officials last night was "Bath"??

  3. Is this game going to be played on Feb 2?? I heard tonight that Rose Hill decided to reschedule this due to their boys playing in the All "A". They play on Thursday 1/31 with no guarantee that they will be playing in the semi's on Sat 2/2. Did they also cancel their game with Raceland on 2/1 because if they win on Thursday they will be playing on Friday? Just curious because both games are still on their schedule but I heard they already called to cancel the officials for their game with Ashland on Sat.

Isn't this a little premature?? Especially since the Ashland game is a district game. From what I understand they proposed a make-up date that would give Ashland 4 games in 5 days. Be surprised if that one flies.

  4. Nice win for Lewis Co. The Russell basketball woes continue. The nice thing about basketball season if your not a class A school is the season is really only one game. IF Russell improves with the right draw.....(Greenup Co.) they may have a ticket to the region in Morehead! I'd say Dodd and the Russell boy's are glad they don't seed.

I'll bet they would still vote to seed and take their chances against the #1 seed this year because they know that seeding is the right thing to do. Who knows, we just may see the 63rd seed next year. :sssh:

  5. If you have a senior and a freshman of equal ability, I think most coaches play the freshman to build for the future.

I can tell you as a coach that if the players were exactly even in ability the senior will probably start, the freshman will play as much as the senior and whoever is playing the best or is the better matchup in that game will be playing at crunch time.

I have seen seniors who are 6 foot post players complain because a 5'5" freshman guard is starting and they are not. They didn't care that they were playing different positions. It is no guarantee that you will start or even play just because you are a senior and come to practice everyday.

  6. Just a question Weakside. If you had a senior (daughter/son) would you still say it doesn't matter, would you care if she/he never played? If she/he was a solid all around player (Just a decent player/not bad or an All-Star) and was playing in their last "All A" and the Coach put in an Freshman in over your son/daughter you wouldn't be upset? I think there is a time an place for a youngerclassmen to play. In a senior's last "All A", I think they should get good time, and try to win it, or lose it. I think the coach should sub correctly to make it fair and still put their team in a position to win. I understand if the younger classmen was like a flat out super star, sure play her/him a lot, but if their just as good as a senior or what not, play the older player.

Just a different point of view to look at this question from! Food for thought!

If the coach feels that the freshman is better in that situation and gives the team a better chance to win, they play whether it is the "senior's last All A" or not. Remember, a parent may think they are equal but they are sometimes blinded by love. The coach is objective and it is their job to put the best players on the floor at any given time. Basketball is a team sport where the idea is to win at the varsity level, not make the seniors feel good. If you can use the senior then do so but if you want equal or guaranteed playing time, you play rec league ball.

  7. Did I read that correctly in the Lexington Herald Leader where he stated that fatigue is all in the mind? Does he run along with the players when he is running them to death at practice? No, he just has his personal driver get the cooler ready for the trip home. :jump:

Well, at least he has a designated driver. :thumb:
