  1. I didnt realize Lewis Co. could have had that much power. Who is it that votes, the coaches or the A.D.?

Each school has a designated voting rep.

Each of the participating schools gets 1 vote. It takes a majority for something to pass. In years past Russell & Greenup voted to seed and Raceland & Lewis (Fairview before they moved to to 64th) voted against it. Always ended 2 - 2. Had Lewis voted yes it would have been 3 - 1 and it would have passed.

Finally, we did get seeding passed this year.

  2. I'm not sure why Russell would be so eager to seed unless they just feel it is the right thing to do.

You hit the nail on the head. Someone made a statement on another thread stating they bet Russell is glad they did not seed this year because of the season they are having. I said then that Russell still voted to seed last year knowing that this year would be a "rebuilding year". They knew with everyone that the other teams in the district had returning that they would not be a favorite and probably a #3 or #4.

Seeding generally creates the best matchups for the region tourney & it makes the regular season mean more.

  3. Wouldn't there have to be 2 teams that voted against it?

I was only responding to lewiscoref being upset that #3 or #4 will go to the region this year. Russell & Greenup ALWAYS vote to seed. Had Lewis voted to last year that would have meant 3 of 4 voted for it and that would have been enough. They could have looked forward to meeting Russell or Greenup this year instead of the district favorite.

You can't complain about a #3 or #4 definitely making the region the year you are a #1 or #2 when you had the power to keep that from happening. Certainly it is not a stretch for a #3 to beat a #2 if the district is seeded but it lessons #4's chance of making it when they play #1 in the first round. #4 may be able to beat #3 in a draw but should not beat #1.

Again, this is all water under the bridge because we seed from now on. Can't imagine that will ever change as long as there are only 4 teams in this district and Greenup and Russell are in it. :thumb:

  4. I seen the first game Ricky and understand your opinion. Boyd definetly has a tough time with the Press.

If I were to stick with a Coach in a District game, it would have to be Zornes, now if he can just convince this group of players like he was able to in the Past he will be OK.:thumb: But I also agree sometimes teams are just too overmatched, but still sticking with my prediction, but happy either way.:thumb:

BTW, hard to beat someone 3 times in a year.

Not if you are the better team. If the 2 teams are equal then yes it is. These 2 teams are not equal or probably even close to equal.

  5. I dont mean difference in makes. I mean if its called to where Raceland is getting called for fouls when Hall goes into the lane. He pushes off a lot and draws fouls on the opponent. Like Reggie Miller did in the NBA.

If there is a CLEAR push off then the refs will see that and call it. If there is contact when he goes in the lane and a foul is warranted, I'm sure they will call it on the appropriate offender (offense or defense).

  6. What happened to the Lady Lions?

They came out on fire and led 27 - 15 after the 1st quarter. Then the shots quit falling and West started playing much better. Elliott doesn't seem to run much offensively in the halfcourt. Everytime down court someone either drives to the basket and throws something up or jacks up a 3 pointer. And, it's not that their shot selection got worse as the game went on because that is just how they play all the time. West did a good job shutting down their transition after the first quarter. If you get Elliott in a halfcourt game they struggle.

Congratulations to West on the win.

  7. It is correct but I am not sure how many times they have faced each other. I think it is only a handful of games in the last 30 yrs. (but that is just a guess).

I believe I heard Dickie say this win breaks a string of 24 wins in a row for Ashland against Raceland. That would mean they have only played 24 times in the last 60 years.

  8. Russell did a much better job as a team taking care of the ball today. The committed 18 turnovers as opposed to 29 against Boyd. Much more poised today.

    Russell shot 16 - 26 from inside 3 point arc for 62%.

They were 1 - 3 from behind the arc for 33%.

    Total FG's 17 - 29 for 59%

They were 8 - 12 from the FT line for 67%.

    Simpson - 19 points on 9 - 12 shooting, 1 - 2 from FT line. 7 blocked shots!!

    Sparks - 10 points. 5 - 6 from the line in the 4th qtr.

    Parsley - 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Russell played without 6'0" center Katrina Holmes (knee). 8th graders Gabrielle Cassity and Molly Baldridge really stepped up in her absence. They had only one turnover between them while splitting time for the entire 32 minutes.

  9. Greenup missed a ton of free throws in the 4th quarter. I know Craft missed 6 straight inside the last minute that would have sealed the victory for Greenup. He did hit a huge three to put Greenup up 3 but Skaggs trumped that one with the biggest of his 4 threes and possibly his young career to tie the game. Ferguson was huge for Russell tonight as Shooter stated. Hit the winning FT's with 2.8 secs remaining. The 63rd draws on Wednesday. The teams that avoid Raceland have to feel good about their chances. Should be the last blind draw for the 63rd. The speculation ends on Wednesday.

  10. Russell was 18 - 27 from 2 point range for 67% and 19 - 37 overall for 51%.

They were also 8 - 14 from the FT line for 57%.

They had 11 blocked shots, 11 assists, & 7 steals.

Most of the time you would expect to win with these stats.

    BUT........

They committed 29 turnovers. That is hard to overcome. Boyd's pressure was good but several of the turnovers were simple bad passes with people open. Over 70 turnovers in 2 games in the last 2 weeks (Rowan & Boyd). Russell has to do a better job protecting the ball if they want to make a run at the region championship.

Congrats to Boyd on the hard fought win.

  11. Y Russell in front of Greenup?... Greenup is playing better ball, had Fairview on the ropes in the 4th... they play Russell friday so i guess we will see

Because it's an opinion poll and that is his opinion. Doesn't make it so, just makes it his opinion.

All that matters is what they do head to head and that looks like it will mean even more starting next year!! :thumb:
