RoundLeather Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 All I can say is WOW! I'm actually impressed with my hometown Tigers. They played with a whole lot of heart. They actually had the game won and gave it away. With 1:00 to go, the Tigers were up by 8. 4 missed free throws by Jackson and 3 quick scores by Summerville tied the game. When Jackson was up by 3 with like 12 seconds to go, Howard for Jackson blocked a three point attempt but Summerville got the rebound and found a player open in the opposite corner who busted a 3 and tied the game. Jackson done one heck of a job on the boards by blocking out and keeping those GIANTS from getting position. This was a big team, and very athletic. Just ask any Johnson Central or Cawood fan. #22 for Summerville (Green) is the best high school player I"ve seen play live, in a long time. Just like to add that I was very disappointed in some of Hazard's fans cheering with every gut in them against Jackson City. We're not only from the same state, we are only 25 miles apart. Oh well, GREAT game Jackson, a loss but one heck of a moral one.
HDE Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 For me, Jackson City's emergence this year is one of the biggest surprises in all of the years I've followed basketball. I didn't think it was possible for them to be as competitive as they've been. I'm guessing the Hazard fans were in shock that they were playing in the consolation game and Jackson City was playing in the finals. What has made them that much better this year? I've heard the part about them being good in middle school, but that doesn't explain why they weren't more competitive the last couple of years in high school.
LeeCoBobcatFan Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Sorry to hear about Jackson City's loss, however am glad to hear that despite losing they played with heart. IMO, I'd rather have five kids on the floor who play with all their hearts than five of the most talented kids who just don't care. I'm sure Jackson City played a great game, and congratulations on second place in the tournament.

IMO, because in middle school, freshmen, and JV. It was just them and only them. Over the last couple of years (IMO) they always had a older player or two that hurt them mainly because of jealousy (IMO). They older players wanted their classmates to get more playing time over the younger players and it kind of caused a little too much tension. Of course partents were involved also as is the case in many situations when coaches play underclassmen over Seniors. Also if by halftime for example, if Howard or Fugate had like 12 points and one of the older kids had like 3, then they would do whatever it took to match that the second half. Now's their time to shine with all that non-sense over with. IMO! Good Luck Tigers!

RoundLeather Posted January 1, 2006 Author Posted January 1, 2006 I agree with you 100%, and these Tigers are playing great! :thumb: I hate to keep pushing the issue here Hoopsfan, but correct me if I'm wrong. To truly appreciate these Tigers and their performance, you just had to be at the Summerville game and watched what an awesome team they (Sum) were, and how the Tigers handled the pressure of playing a Huge and Talented team for the HIT Championship. I've bragged on these kids for years telling folks I knew what they could do if they put their heads to it, but this night they fooled me and showed me something even more. They actually caught me off guard, and I have to say my own team impressed me. If they hit one out of four freethrows, then Jackson wins. Also I'd just like to add, it tickles the fire out of me to read our local newspapers and to watch the highlights on the news. Both do a wonderful job, I'm not saying anything bad. It's just how after several wins, the statement Jackson upsets____________ is made. Our newspaper had Jackson upsets Wolfe and Jackson gets second upset against Powell. The news stated against Hazard "Jackson gets the upset". IMO, the only upsetting Jackson has done this year is when they came out and played bad agianst Greenup County. Now that really "upset" me
Hoops Fan 1 Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 I was at the game was well Roundleater24, and the way these Tigers played against a great team like Summerville says a whole lot about this team. It's great to see a team whose been through a lot finally get things together. Coach Lively has done a great job with this bunch of kids. I love it just as much as you do the way Jackson City is getting more coverage now. It's great to finally see their schedules posted around town and I love the support these kids have been getting, especially the crowd at Hazard friday night. As for the upset statement, I wish it would stop as well. But if upsets means wins, I hope we get all the upsets we can lol.

When you said schedules posted around town I just had to tell it: Everytime I go in our local Hardees, they have both Breathitt and Jackson City's schedules posted up, but they keep their clean trays stacked up in front of Jackson's schedule. So everytime I go in there I ask them to move the trays because I'd like to look at the schedule and find out when the Tigers play again. They do everytime for me, but after I set down they move them back. LOL Anyway, I love to see the support also. These kids deserve it. I thought we had a big turnout at this game considering the finals of the tourney going on at Breathitt High.
