Cards blast Bourbon to reach district finals

PARIS — The postseason can present challenges, but George Rogers Clark overcame a brief eight-minute spell and rolled to a 78-42 victory over host Bourbon County in the opening round of the 40th District Tournament Tuesday night at Bourbon¿County High School.

The Cardinals held a slim 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Clark outscored the Colonels 53-22 in the middle two quarters to put the game away and avoid a letdown in its postseason opener.

Clark outscored Bourbon 16-0 to open the second frame, turning an 11-7 lead into a 27-7 advantage with five minutes remaining in the first half.

Dominic VanCleve tallied 10 points during the decisive spurt and led the Cards with 13 points in the first half. Stenzel followed VanCleve with 13 points and Charlie Rogers scored 11.
