31st District softball

Featured Replies

Gallatin County will enter the season as defending 31st District champs. At this point I say they are the favorite until someone proves otherwise. They return P,C,2B,SS,3B,RF, and CF. Will need to fill voids at 1B and LF due to graduation. Henry County will be solid as they bring coach Kasten back to the program he built, Owen County has a new coach, as does Carroll County. Opinions?

Don't know much about the district but I know of several of the girls from Gallatin Co and they can play. Best of luck!

I don't think Owen Co. lost much from last year, plus they will have their shortstop Gambrel back from a broken arm. Their new Coach Sutherland will have them very competitive.

Carroll Co. only has one senior and no juniors but has a bunch of sophomores that can play. If their pitchers improve from last year, they will surprise some people and should not be overlooked. They have one of the best hitters in the region in Mackenzie Ogden. Carroll Co's new coaching staff has has a lot of knowledge.

Ogden is a nice player.

Carroll's pitching gave up 6.96 runs per game, and their offense produced 3.68 runs per game. Their pitching will need to improve three fold or their hitting will need to improve two fold to drastically improve on their 5 wins last season. Their porous defense will need to improve drastically to surprise anyone. Good luck to the Panthers and their new coaching staff.

Owen will be improved defensively with Gambrell returning from injury, but as a team, their defensive lateral movement is poor. Their pitching and ability to hit is what will keep them competitive as they have been for last few seasons. The coaching change will NOT make that much of a difference in my opinion. Talent wins, period. To be honest, aside from an extemely poor showing in the 31st District tournament last season, Owen County overachieved last season.

Agreed. She should be getting some college interest at this point.

Does she still play with the NKY Bandits?

Owen's coach WILL make a difference IMO. They will have 7 starters that haven't picked up a softball since last High School season. I can't think of very many players that were born with softball talent. They had to be taught or coached. He's a good fundamentals and hitting coach and knows the game. Last year they had only lost a mediocre shortstop, and going to the Region how many years in a row and then not making it out of Districts would be underachieving with basically the same team and a different coach.

Yes and Williamson from CC also plays with the Bandits.

They have some studs. Nicholson, Seng, and the Dossett sisters.

That will be tough to overcome if that stat duplicates itself this season. Carroll has talent, maybe just not enough at this point when you consider the pitching problems. If Carroll can ever solve their pitching issues, they will be solid. I think that Coach Hawkins and Coach Ogden will make a positive impact on the young Panthers this season.

Did Gambrel break her arm again?
