Knott County Central 99 Cordia 36

Featured Replies

Big win for Knott Central over their county rivals. What made this game interesting was all the back and forth chatter between the fans of the two schools, with the talk that Cordia was going to be a contender in the 14th region this year. Cordia's new coach is Rod Rhodes, of UK celebrity, and the arrival of 3 transfers from Texas in mid-summer made the debate of who was best that much more intense.

I listened to some of the game on the Hindman radio station, and it was a blowout early and never let up. Cordia was cold as ice with their shooting and KCC couldn't do anything wrong.

The game was played in Cordia's tiny gym, which probably seats no more than 250 to 300. The game was at 7:00 but the gym was packed as early as 4:30.

The 14th looks like Perry Central and Knott Central will battle for the region crown this year. Hazard, Buckhorn and Letcher Central are also in the mix, but PCC and KCC are the top teams. And Perry Central is still waiting on clearance to play 6'3 New York transfer Jaysean Paige. A hearing judge for the KHSAA appeals board recently (about 3 weeks ago) overturned the KHSAA ineligibility decision, but the KHSAA still have not cleared him to play.

I agree Perry and Knott are the upper tier of the 14th. There has been a lot of talk about this Cordia team and their ability to contend with the big dogs, but it looks like they will need a lot of improvement to overcome 63 points. Good luck to Cordia.

I am really going to enjoy keeping up with Knott over the next few year. Cameron Justice is the best freshman in the state IMO. I do believe they will be in Rupp one or more times before this freshman class graduates. Justice, Cornett, and Hall are all class acts and I wish them the best.

Will Cordia's fan base put up with many losses like this from Mr. Rhodes?

I'm not sure if they will or not. Cordia has never been a serious contender in the region very many times. They've never won it. So, maybe they will be more tolerate.

Knott Central has some great players, but Jaysean Paige was ruled eligible to play for Perry Central today by the KHSAA. He makes the Commodores the clear favorite to make it back to Rupp in March
