Cards just too much for the Titians tonight. It was all Cards from the tip-off. End of 1st quarter it was GRC 27, Mercer Co 4.

This young GRC team is fun to watch, boy do they hustle. Freshman Malachi Israel is going to be a good PG for the Cards. Hope to have stats later.

Thought GRC looked great tonight lots of hustle. Thought Roberts & Fatkin were outstanding for GRC. Some tough games next week, hope they keep up this kind of play.

Goldie - always a wonderful pleasure seeing you!

Good seeing and talking to you too my friend. Thought Vancleeve played well tonight too. Bopper is the leader of this team, love to watch him play. Some great passes to Fatkin tonight.

Next up for the Cards is BGP ranked #7 Madison Central on Tuesday and then travel to rival Montgomery Co on friday for a boys and girls double header.

Sounds like Adam Fatkin is primed for a breakout year for GRC. He's very talented. Glad to see him finally get his turn.

Cards exact heavy toll in home opener

George Rogers Clark showed no mercy in its home opener Friday night.

The Cardinals raced out to a 24-0 lead and rolled to a 70-35 rout over Mercer County at Norton Gymnasium.

Clark senior Adam Fatkin, who scored 15 points, said the Cards were prepared to face the home crowd.

“We’ve been hyped all week for this first home game,” Fatkin said afterward. “It’s our only one home one of the month.¿We were ready for it.”

Clark forced 16 turnovers in the first half and scored 17 points off those miscues. The Titans missed their first nine shots and didn’t connect on their first field goal until John Ingram drained a 3-pointer with 54 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

Overall, Mercer made just four field goals in the first two quarters, with two of those coming from long range. Ingram paced Mercer with 10 points and tallied eight in the first half.

Clark built the margin to 38 points at 42-4 with 2:15 remaining in the half. The Titans reached double figures by the end of the quarter as the Cards held a controlling 48-15 advantage at the break.

Clark senior Bopper Stenzel scored 13 points to lead three players in double figures at the half.

Stenzel connected on two field goals, but made eight of nine free throws. Blake Roberts and Fatkin followed Stenzel with 11 points each. Roberts connected on three of Clark’s five treys in the first half, while Fatkin did most of his scoring in the first frame. Fatkin scored the Cards’ first seven points and added two more field goals in the second quarter. Fatkin finished with 15 points and Stenzel with 13.

Roberts connected on four shots from long range and paced the Cards with 16 points.

Clark slipped into cruise control in the second half as Humphrey cleared his bench and played his reserves during the final eight minutes.

GRC played with hustle and they have some speed. Fatkin is showing that playing against the bigs from the last few years has set him for his year to shine. We know that Bopper is steady and Rogers can play. Throw in Roberts outside shot and GRC will be able to compete in the 10th this year. This week's matchup with Montgomery will show more about where they currently fit in 10th this year as I still think Montgomery is the team to beat.
