George Rogers Clark 38 Montgomery County 27

Featured Replies

HUGE crowd for this rival game. Score at the half was Montgomery Co 14 GRC 9. Was good to see Demarcus Cousins and Andrew Rogers at the game tonight. Hope to have some stats later.

Prep Football: Cards use big second half to defeat Montgomery County

http://www.centralkynews.com/winchestersun/sports/ws-prep-football-cards-use-big-second-half-to-defeat-montgomery-county-20110902,0,4974007.story

How big is the George Rogers Clark-Montgomery County rivalry?

It's always big enough to attract a large crowd, and unexpected guests, including former University of Kentucky standout DeMarcus Cousins, who watched the contest from the press box at Cardinal Stadium Friday night. The Cards overcame two interceptions and rallied for a 38-27 triumph over the Indians in front of a standing-room crowd and captured their fourth consecutive victory over their border rivals.

Again, it was Pokey Harris who carried Clark's offense, rushing for 202 yards and four touchdowns. Harris' scores included touchdown runs of 61- and 52-yards. The senior running back tallied three scores in the final quarter as the Cards pulled away down the stretch.

The Cards' defensive unit shut down the Indians in the fourth quarter and was led by Conner Shoebrooks with nine tackles, including one for a loss and a safety.

“It was a team effort and that's what won us the game,” Shoebrooks said afterward. “It was a big win – a very big win.”

Hard to win games when you throw up a goose egg in the 4th quarter and give up 21.
