What's Up At North Oldham???

Featured Replies

According to the KHSAA "open jobs" site, the North Oldham girls' head coaching position is vacant. Does anyone know the story of what happened and what the future looks like for the Lady Mustangs?

On Louis Meadows' newsletter it said Coach Martin told him she had 'stepped down'. Of course, that could be voluntary or involuntary. Curious to hear - they had stuck with her through quite a bit including that brief suspension back in the 2006 range.

This has surprisingly has drawn little interest, and even less in the way of details. Doesn't anyone have any clues as to what is going on in the way of filling the vacancy at NOHS? It has all of the outside appearances of a potentially good job - facilities, location, solid academics. Calling Col. Mike - do you have any words???

I did not keep the newspaper, but the article in the Oldham Era basically said she wanted to do something different. She was also a track star in high school and might work with NOHS track team next year. I took from the article that it was her choice to step down.

DC, it beats the heck out of me, but it would be interesting to have an idea of what is going on, as NOHS has the potential and facilities to make some noise in the district and region picture some day.

It seems as though all 8th region girls' b-ball news flashes reflect solid interest from every corner of the region except the 29th district, which makes one believe that it's taken more seriously in other parts of the region than down there.

Retro who has applied?

North Oldham has been a revolving door for coaches for the past several years with the exception of girls basketball until now. Rumors have flown for years about administration and parental influence issues. They certainly have nice facilities that were updated recently and a better record the past two seasons. Unfortunately, they have not had the success that most thought they would over the years. Lots of player turnover and they haven't even fielded a freshman team the last 2 seasons so they appear to be short on numbers. Coach Martin all but guarenteed in the local paper that they would make it to the region tournament last year and that did not happen. Perhaps a new coach will revive the program. They have an outstanding player in Nicole Bryant which is a great place to start.

North hired one the assistants - Dan Pfaff. Interesting as they advertised for varsity basketball head coaching experience but hired someone w/o head coaching experience.

Unofficial word is that there were scant teaching positions for which to absorb a new coach. I'm uncertain of the official validity of of this statement, but am confident that it is accurate. Whatever the circumstances, good luck to Coach Pfaff in attempting to turn around the NOHS b-ball fortunes. It is not an easy task.

I heard the same thing Retro - no teaching positions open to bring anyone in so that had to high from within.

Could have hired a paraprofessional - pass up qualfied applicants for the sake of a teacher with no head coaching experience.
