30th District preview

Recommended Posts

#1 seed - Anderson County - Tony Kays is in his 12th season at Anderson, and has taken the Lady Bearcats to the region finals the last three years, including a region title last season. Anderson has not lost to a district opponent since the 2007-8 season, when they lost to Shelby County in the district finals - in Taylorsville. Anderson returns to the scene of their last district loss, but they will be a heavy favorite to sweep through the tourney this time around.

#2 seed - Collins - The first-year Collins team has beaten everyone in the district but Anderson, and they played the Lady Bearcats close, losin just 56-49 in Lawrenceburg. Injuries may be the only thing to slow Collins down; starting center Kelsey Hall and guard Allie Stumbo are both done for the year due to knee injuries, and three Lady Titans will be playing after dealing with ankle problems. Collins has ranked near the top of the region all season in terms of defensive scoring allowed per game, and is giving up just 42.1 ppg.

#3 seed - Spencer County - The Lady Bears have historically struggled in the district, battling traditional powers Anderson County and Shelby County. Playing on their home court, the Lady Bears will challenge a wounded Collins team in the first round - a team that defeated them by just 11 early in the season when the Lady Titans were healthy. An upset win puts them back in the region for the second time in three years.

#4 seed - Shelby County - The Lady Rockets have won the 8th region more than any team not named Oldham County, but the school split hit them hard this year. 11 of 16 roster spots are filled with middle school players, and the leading scorer / rebounder is a 6'0" seventh grader.

#5 seed - Eminence - The Lady Warriors are very young, and a project in the making. The 4/5 seed game could be very exciting; the Lady Warriors fell to Shelby County by just one point during the regular season.
