THE SEASON IS FINALLY HERE!

Tuesday, 11/30/10, the Oldham County Colonels - who were named the slight favorite in the boys' 8th region according to the coaches' poll - open their season by hosting the Grant County Braves.

Jason Holland begins his second year at Oldham County, and his Colonels will be led by all-region point guard junior Kerry Smith. Smith, however, has just come to the team from the successful Oldham County football team, as has inside man Dylan Simms, who is rehabbing from a football injury. How fast Smith can shake off the rust and how the Colonels rebound without Simms on the inside may determine how successful they are in December.

The Braves are coming off a 10-16 season and new coach Jim Hicks is at the reins. The Braves return the vast majority of their roster, but they lost two key inside players in Mike Davis and Isiah Wartman.

Last year, the Colonels defeated Grant County, 81-76, in overtime on 1/23/10 at Dry Ridge.

Tuesday's game will be broadcast on the Pegasus Sports Network, beginning at 7 pm. Go to http://www.pegasussportsky.com, click on one of the school logos, and then click on the game listing under "Upcoming / Live Broadcasts". If you miss the live event, the game can be heard as an archive by clicking on the listing under "Archived Broadcasts"

Who wins and why???

Oldham defeated Louisville Southern by about 20 points on Saturday night in a 5 quarter scrimmage. The Colonels are dealing the with late football arrivals and some injuries. Be interesting to see how that affects them.

Grant will be one of the shortest teams in the 8th region this year...that could cause them difficulties on the glass, but small, quick teams have often fared very well in the region. (See last year's Gallatin County team for a prime example!)

Should be a fun one - the Oldham/Grant games always seem to be very competitive. Although Oldham has won 13 of the last 16 meetings, most of the games have been VERY competitive - and last year's meeting went to OT before Oldham won by 5.
