DragonFire
The Dragons were very lucky to get away from this one, but it was good to see them get the W even when not playing their best. They were dealing with a lot of adversity, with Cortez Barber, their best player, suffering from a virus that was inducing migraine-like symptoms and vertigo. It seemed like the whole team was getting rocked mentally and physically by Grayson in the first half. The Cougars dominated possession and forced five Dragon punts, but could only bust one long play for a TD against the Dragon D. But ultimately the score was 6-3 Grayson at halftime, just like the first game. Also like the first game, it looked like Central would kick it into gear in the second half. They stopped the Cougars on their first possession and then drove 50 yards for their only TD to go up 10-6. Grayson County would get a safety on a bad snap on a punt that would get blocked, and they had a very good chance to recover for a TD, but ultimately could not. Fortunately for the Dragons, Grayson County never even got past the WC 25 after that. This included a goal line stand-like possession where Grayson had a 2nd and 1 from the WC 30 or so, and were stuffed on three straight plays to turn it over on downs. The Dragons will have to get much better offensively and quick to be able to tangle with Christian County, but they do end the curse of 17 years of not playing in a region final that wasn't in the state's highest class.
