Class of 2012 Player rankings

Featured Replies

Scout.com just came out with their player rankings for 2012 and Joe Manley OT Bowling Green came in as a 4 star # 59 overall player. Zeke Pike came in at #69 overall and he is a 4 star as well.

Were those the only 2 in KY for 2012? What position was Pike listed as (QB, LB, DE)?

Wow...I thought I read Pike could very well be the best QB in the class of 2012? And why is Towles not on this list?

My guess is that Pike already has offers from several schools, and Towles does not. From a glance at that scout.com site, it looks as if Pike went to camp after camp this past summer and made a good impression on several schools.

Although as a relative novice to BGP, I'm not sure what receiving an "offer" means. Does that mean coach so- &-so wrote a letter to recruit that we are offering you a 4 year football scholarship or was told at a camp that you are being offered such a scholarship? For instance, if a athlete gets a letter from the University of Florida _____ that we'd love to see you in a Gator uniform, is that considered an offer?

I think Trey Pinkelton will get some offers next year he is SK's starting Safety.

Those were the only 2 from Kentucky in the top 100 for the 2012 class. Now this is very very early so a lot of that will change. Pike was listed as a QB.

You are correct about Pike attending a bunch of camps of high profile camps (Florida, Alabama, etc.) and impressing coaches every place he went.

The definition of an "offer" is a very gray area. Before September 1st of the players junior year they are able to recieve only verbal offers from coaches. After September 1 they can recieve written offers, but the players can not actually sign with a team until national signing day (the best day of the year) which is on the first wednesday of February of the players senior year.

Where it gets tricky is players can recieve offers but are not able to "commit" on them. You will often see a player "commit" to a school but the school doesnt allow it, kind of behind the scenes. The player will then drop the school and commit elsewhere. In the headlines it looks like the player switched, when in reality the school didn't allow that player to "commit" even though he had an "offer".

A letter is nothing more than a letter. Schools send out thousands of letters but are not considered offers.

So some of those "offers" received by Pike and others may be nothing more than a verbal statement that we want you at Florida, Alabama, etc...? I would have thought it would be more formal than that.

Whether offers or not, it looks like several of this year's Jr. class will be playing at big time schools in the fall of 2012.
