Lawrence County HC Luke Salmons add on another role

Featured Replies

I didn't know which thread to put this in so if it needs to be moved, my apologies.

Luke Salmons, the current head coach at Lawrence County High School in Louisa, has been named the head coach of the Huntington (W.Va.) Hammer of the Ultimate Indoor Football League. The UIFL is a semi-pro football league that is set to begin play in the spring of 2011. It plans on having around eight teams in the league with five already being named; Canton (Ohio) Cougars, Johnstown (Pa.), Pikeville (Ky.) and Highland Heights (Ky.).

Former LCHS head coach Gary McPeek will also be on the coaching staff.

Now on to why I posted this in the HS Football thread...do any of you think this will take anything away from LCHS's spring practices since Coach Salmons will be spending a great deal of time with the Huntington Hammer?

Personally, I think it could help LCHS if Salmons can pull this off cause if I'm not mistaken, former Lexington Catholic head coach Bob Sphire was an offensive coordinator and eventual head coach of the Lexington Horsemen and he was able to use his experience with the indoor game with the LexCath Knights.

Huntington has had several arena teams over the years and most of the coaches have been high school coaches and I don't know of any of the high school teams that suffered because of it. We at Raceland have had several coaches coach semi pro teams in Huntington and it never affected the high school team.
