North Oldham 2010/2011

Featured Replies

What does North Oldham need to do to improve in 2010/2011? What do they need to keep doing to be sucessful? Remember, please be constructive.

Last year was a benchmark year for the Lady Mustangs, who recorded their first ever winning season. Nicole Bryant returns for her junior year, and is one of the top talents in the region. She was the best player we didn't see in the region, because North was unable to get out of the district. A tremendous talent, Bryant is a solid rebounder, tremendous shooter, and strong ball-handler. She can pretty much play any position on the court and will again be the focus of the North attack. Jessica Lowe, the leading rebounder, returns for her senior year, as does guard Lucy Gibson, who hit nearly 50% from the floor (best on the team). The #1, #3, and #5 scorers return, including Meghan Welle, who was a dead-eye FT shooter last year at 73%. Consistency, scoring from other players besides Bryant, and depth will be issues the team will try to address this year. Last year, when Bryant was out of the lineup, the team struggled a bit with ballhandling and offensive cohesion; Coach Nancy Martin will try to use the extra year of experience to smooth out those issues.

South Oldham will again be the favorite in the 29th district, but North could very well contend with Oldham County for the number two spot this year, and earn their first-ever trip to the region tournament.

Watched the Bryant girl this summer a few times and was very impressed.

Like Logan Dunbar of Spencer County on the boys side, Bryant is probably the "best player the average 8th region fan has never heard of" because her team hasn't made the region tournament.

A shame because she has one of the best overall games of any of the juniors-to-be in the region. She's an excellent ballhandler and passer, has good range on her shot, is a strong rebounder, and a pretty good defender. She literally could play any of the five positions on the floor for North.
