Bishop Brossart 6 Boone County 2

:ylsuper: On the eve of the “Uncle Pete” Noll Invitational at Pendery Park, you have to believe Pete is looking down upon the Lady ‘Stangs approvingly as they begin their season 9-1, the top ranking in Northern Kentucky and beating some of the top teams in the state.

Thursday was no exception as the Lady ‘Stangs rolled over Boone County 6-2 in a game that saw more clutch hitting, good pitching and solid defense.

Brossart started a bit slowly against Boone’s Johnson. Her herky jerky motion was unique but in the third things started to come around for the Lady ‘Stangs starting with Lindsay Griffith’s first of three hits a sharp single to right. She moved to second after a Jenna Bezold comebacker to the mound. Molly Williams singled, Alicia Miller then reached base after being hit in the head and Krista Kennedy singled. Natalie Woeste then drilled a shot to right center plating two runs and suddenly it was 3-0.

In the fifth the Lady ‘Stangs came right back with the rally being started again by Griffith with a single to right and a single by Bezold. Williams followed with an rbi single, Miller reached on an error and Krista Kennedy walked. Erin Holtz, pinch hitting, slapped the ball to the right side sending home Bezold. When the smoke cleared it was 6-0.

Meanwhile Miller was cruising along scattering only four hits thru six innings but Boone mounted a mini comeback in the seventh scoring twice before the final batter was retired to secure a 6-2 win. Miller finished allowing one earned run and striking out 12 Lady Rebels.

Brossart is now 9-1, Boone Co. 6-5.

Uncle Pete would be proud.

Finally saw the Lady Stangs in action and would say they are in the top two in Northern Kentucky of all the teams I have seen play this year. St. Henry is the other top squad.

Boone has made a good move with their current coaching change and it will pay the Lady Rebels dividends down the road.

The truth is I can't even remember the last time Boone County has been to the 9th Region tournament much less won it. The Lady Rebels used to be a factor, but have not been for quite a while. They do have the "reputation" of being good, and that is what always makes me laugh about reputations-once you get one -good or bad-it stays with you for a super long time.

Maybe in the near future the Lady Rebels will become relevant again. Even in their heyday they never won a state crown, but listening to some people around here you would think they invented fast pitch softball.

One other comment is that I believe overall our area is down this year in girls fast pitch softball. That does not diminish the great start the Lady Stangs are off to. Congrats Brossart!
