North Oldham 46 Trimble County 35

Featured Replies

North Oldham gets a dominating first half, rolling to a 26-11 halftime lead, then holds off a determined Trimble County squad in the second half to win by 11.

North Oldham hit their shots early, including 6 of 11 in the first period to take a 13-7 lead after one....Trimble struggled early, hitting just 3 of 13 shots, and the Lady Raiders found it difficult to defend the Lady Mustangs with a man-to-man defense. North cooled slightly in the second quarter, but still pulled away to the 15 point halftime margin by hitting 12 of 27 first half shots (44.4%) including 2 of 2 beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders were stone cold at 4 of 22 (18%) and 3 of 8 at the line (37.5%). Fortunately for Trimble, they were dominating the glass (unofficially leading that statistic, 18-9, at the break).

Trimble County made some adjustments at the half, and came out a different team. Trimble went to a 2-3 zone in the third period, and began to frustrate the North offense. North Oldham turned the ball (unofficially) 8 times in the third period, and the Lady Mustangs were able to take just 6 shots in the period, although they did hit 3 (50%). Still, the lead was still 14 at the end of the period at 36-22 as Trimble could only outscore North, 11-10.

Trimble continued to turn North over (unofficially 6 times in the fourth), but again could only make a slight dent in the lead, outscoring North 13-10.

The key stat turned out to be shooting percentages: North shot a solid 45.2% for the game, while Trimble could manage only 29.5% on 13 of 49 shooting. Black and Sara Kuner were a combined 10 of 18, but the rest of the team was a combined 3 of 26. Meanwhile, 4 of the 7 North players to score hit 50% or better from the field...

Sophomore forward Nicole Bryant - who eclipsed the 600 point mark this past week, just 1 1/2 years into her HS career - scored 19 points to lead North, hitting 9 of 13 shots, including 1 of 3 threes. Trimble was led by Reagan Black, who hit 7 of 13 shots and 4 of 7 FTs for a game-high 20 points.

North - who only had 8 varsity players at the game - had to utilize those three subs heavily, as starting guard Lucy Gibson spent most of the first half on the bench with foul trouble, and finished the game with four fouls, as did senior guard Olivia Raffli and center Jessica Lowe.

For North, the game was a benchmark: The win was the 12th for NOHS this year, the most wins in a single season in school history (keep in mind, the school is only in its 7th year). With four remaining games against Moore, Atherton, Southern, and North Bullitt, North will have reasonable chances to improve on that number... North also is likely to finish with its first-ever winning record this year...

North improves to 12-9; Trimble falls to 4-14.

The game was the final seeding game for the 29th district. The final standings:

South Oldham 3-0

Oldham County 2-1

North Oldham 1-2

Trimble County 0-4

North Oldham 13 13 10 10 - 46

Trimble County 7 4 11 13 - 35

NOHS - Bryant 19, Welle 8, Raffli 7, Mattern 6, Lowe 2, Gibson 2, Moore 2

TCHS - Black 20, Kuner 6, Dunlap 3, Griffith 3, Long 2, Davis 1

FG%: NO 19 / 42 45.2%, TC 13/49 29.5%

Three%: NO 3/4 75% TC 3/9 33%

FT%: NO 4/6 67% TC 6/13 46%

Very nice update CM!
