Highlands 30 Simon Kenton 28 (Frosh)

Birds storm back in the 2nd half after trailing 15 to 10 at the break. Not much effort by Highlands in the 1st half as they got burned not getting back on defense numerous times. The 2nd half was a different story as the Birds played lockdown defense. Jac Collinsworth was the game's lone double figure scorer with 12. He nailed two huge Ft's with 24 second left to put the Birds up 30-26. Riley Barnes led SK with 8 points and 6/7 from the line. Collinsworth did a great job of shutting Barnes down and limiting his 3pt shots and Bailey Witte held speedy point guard Geoff Johnson scoreless in the 2nd half. Nice road win for the Birds in a tough place to play. They move to 11-5.

Was last night an off game for True? I was expecting a spectacular performance and never saw it. Racke did a good job on him, I thought. The difference in this game was poor defensive excecution by SK- giving up too many back door cuts- in the second half and a much better defensive effort by the Birds.

I won't commend on the officiating....just bad all around.

IMO Racke did a good job on him and Racke did not get enough offensive touches in SK sets. SK did a good job using clock and running sets in the 1st half (boring bball but it worked). True seems to be awful tough on himself and needed to relax, he did not play well, but have witnessed much better from him. HHS had many back door cuts and played well defensively in the 2nd half. I would like to see them take open looks. A couple of boys passed on good shots. HHS does a lot well, but IMO they need to shoot the ball better. If they do not get to the rim, they will struggle. Officiating was really bad, A couple of missed double dribbles and questionable calls.

A good win for the Birds. Suprised that SK didn't work the ball to Barnes more and that HHS didn't force it into True on the block. True looked uncomfortable with the ball and was not aggressive at all. A repost and kick out should free up shooters.

True had an off night but played better in the 2nd half. He was too soft when he got the offensive rebounds. Collinsworth played good defense on Barnes limiting his 3pt shots which are his bread and butter. There is one kid in particular for HHS who is a very good shooter but doesnt put it up half as much as he should. If he would knock down open shots it would open up the inside more and bring the defense out. As of right now its a lot of standing around watching the PG.

I was impressed with Johnson for SK and his quickness to the rim. If he develops a pull up shot he will be very effective. He had a few wide open looks but didnt even look to shoot which allowed the Bird defenders to cut off his drives.

The officiating was questionable no doubt and one was overheard stating that he had a sore throat and wouldnt be blowing the whistle much. I believe he was true to his word. LOL

Considering SK has 4 frosh playing up I thought the kids they played in the frosh game did a decent job being aggressive and running their offense with patience.

If HHS has a shooter, coach needs him to shoot because everything else will indeed open up. HHS PG does a real good job of running the floor and I like his effort especially for loose balls on the floor. I know Witte can play, I think he needs a shot in the arm.

Another question for SK fans?

Doesn't Mark Huesman son play for SK? Did not see him in action, is he playing up or injured? Barnes boy has a nice shot. Two basketball playing sons of an old QB/CF and a stud wrestler; but then again who thought this old SK boy would be entrenched in HHS sports. My wife reminds me each day who actually is the bluebird.

Turner has done well taking the ball strong to the basket and Witte just needs more confidence which should come as he physically gets stronger. These two have done well at the guard spots this season and hopefully they continue into the tourney.

Yes, his son Jacob plays for them, but against Highlands he sat out with a bum knee. He wouldn't of been a factor like he has been, because he's not seeing much floor time for the freshman coach.
