North Oldham/Oldham County Friday 1/15/2010

Featured Replies

North Oldham vs. Oldham County on Friday of this week. Oldham Countians, what do you say?

North with something of a disappointing start against a very rugged schedule, but Devon Rowan has been a real beast on the inside and Alex Foley continues to be one of the most dangerous long-range sharpshooters the 8th Region has ever seen.

Oldham County (currently 4-11 as of this writing) is off to its worst start in decades, but first-year coach Jason Holland not only is dealing with a young team (the top talent appears to be mainly in the sophomore class) and instituting a new system, but he's also dealing with major injuries to key personnel. Tough trifecta.

Game is at Oldham County. For those who can't make it, it will be broadcast live, beginning with a pregame show at 5:30 pm on the Pegasus Sports Network at http://www.pegasussportsky.com

It is a boy/girl doubleheader.

Today's trivial statistic...

Against its 13 Kentucky opponents, Oldham County has held 11 below their season average in points, including South Oldham and Shelby County...

This is pretty typical of Jason Holland coached teams. I have no doubt in my mind that he will have Oldham back on top once his players get the system and come back from injuries this team should be very tough down the road I hope to see them take down NO this week. Wish I could be there to watch this one.

Surprised that this thread regarding tonight's game hasn't picked up more attention from the Oldham County / North Oldham faithful. No pre-game picks??

Key matchups:

Oldham defense vs. Alex Foley / Devon Rowan of North.

Foley leads NO with 21 ppg average and 35% beyond the arc.

Rowan - the monster 6'7" sophomore center - averaging 17 ppg / 12 rebounds for the Mustangs and hitting 68% of his shots.

Oldham ballhandlers vs. North press

Oldham County's star sophomore PG, Kerry Smith, is out for an indeterminate time. North will bring the full-court heat against the Oldham guards throughout...

Rebounding

Oldham doesn't have anyone who can match up with the physical size and strength of Rowan, but they do have some height on the inside in 6'6" Tyler Wesley and 6'5" Nolan Denise. If Oldham doesn't box out well, Rowan will score a dozen on putbacks alone.

Who can't come off the floor

For North, Rowan needs to stay out of foul trouble. With him inside, North can be formidable.

For Oldham, Dylan Simms needs to be on the floor. He may be the hardest-working 6'2" forward / center in the region and is strong enough to tussel with Rowan, despite giving up five inches in height. Oldham gets more than their money's worth when the rugged Simms is on the floor, both offensively and defensively.
