Prep Basketball: Purvis delivered miracle for Cards

Travis Purvis had time to spare while recovering from a season-ending knee injury.

 

Despite walking on crutches most of the time, Purvis found time to work on his shooting from all areas of the floor. His devotion to the sport paid off in big dividends for George Rogers Clark Saturday in the quarterfinals of the King of the Bluegrass Tournament at Fairdale High School in Louisville.

Purvis connected on a 3-pointer just past mid-court as time expired to send George Rogers Clark to a 63-61 triumph over Memphis Central. “All of those half-court shots that Travis took between the junior varsity and varsity games paid off,” Clark coach Scott Humphrey said. “I’m just so happy for the kid. He has worked so hard to get back and play.”
