No he didn't play. With Sanders, South would be a whole lot harder to beat. But still a good win at home for Harlan County.

There are two freshmen playing up and not playing with the freshmen team. Blake Sanders starts at point for the varsity and Alex Sears starts for the JV and dresses varsity. These two have been the leading scorers for South the last three seasons. Even without these two they still have a solid freshmen team and it has been very beneficial to these guys to play without Sanders and Sears as it has forced them to stepup their game. Byrd, Slavey, Abner, Rader, Mitchell, Schaser, Adams, and Jones are from the 8th grade state runner-up team last year.

Harlan Co. has a very solid freshmen team and an unbelieveable arena!! Look forward to a good rematch on Jan. 25th at South Laurel.

From what I have seen, Harlan County and South have the best freshmen in the region.

 

That is a very good win for Harlan County, and may even propel them to an undefeated freshman season.

 

Sanders is a tremendous player. He came off the bench against Corbin, and really sparked the team. He has been in the starting lineup ever since. I have yet to see Sears play, as I haven't see the Cardinals JV squad.

 

I can't wait to see how the Harlan County squad develops over the next couple years. We know that South will continue to be successful, but Harlan County is still building a program. It should get interesting!

Harlan Co. has a very good freshman team, but needs to develop a true post player for the future.

After two cancellations the rematch between South Laurel and Harlan frosh was played today at South. South defeated Harlan 52-46 in overtime. I can see this becoming a very good rivalry over the next 3 years.
