Western Hills 59 South Oldham 53

South shot extremely poorly despite getting wide-open looks all night. The Dragons hit less than 30% of their shots in the first three periods and trailed by as much as 15 points. To their credit, they did rally with a 7 for 12 shooting effort in the 4th (including 2 of 3 beyond the arc) and at one point had cut the deficit to 52-50 and twice had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead, but could not do so.

7 of 14 shooting at the line also hurt the Dragons.

South never led.

South did win the rebounding battle, 28-21 (unofficially).

J.T. Riddle was impressive (27 points) for WH and I thought Logan Curry was very effective on the baseline.

I really liked the play of Charlie Malueg, the 6'6" backup center for South Oldham, who came off the bench to score 9 points and grab 7 rebounds. He was very active in the fourth period and a major reason for South's final-period rally.

It was an exciting game in that it went down to the final half-minute before the Wolverines could clinch the win, but I'm not sure either coach was happy with his team's half-court defense.

Love the gym at Western Hills!! I know the coaches don't much care for it - the acoustics are such that the players can't hear the coaches on the sideline yelling - but it's a gorgeous arena for the fans.
