Playoff Outlook- 5A, Region 4

Featured Replies

Three of the 11 teams in the region have been eliminated. Here's what we have left:

District 7 teams (District Records in Parenthesis)

1- Pulaski County (4-0)

2- Southwestern (3-1)

3- South Laurel (2-2)

4- Mercer County (1-3)

Lincoln County (0-4)

District 8 teams (District Record in parenthesis)

1t-Letcher County Central (4-1)

1t-Harlan County (4-1)

1t-Whitley County (4-1)

4- Perry County Central (2-3)

North Laurel (1-4)

Clay County (0-5)

Letcher Central's loss was to Harlan County

Harlan County's loss was to Whitley County

Whitley County's loss was to Letcher County Central

Since none of the three teams tied for first has beaten the other two, the tie-breaker will come down to the wins of four opponents, which cannot be any of the three teams involved in the tie (it really comes down to non-district games since all three beat the same district teams and can claim those teams' wins):

Letcher County Central

South Laurel 3 wins

Middlesboro 3 wins

Hazard 6 wins

This week: Moore 2 wins

That's a total of 12 for-sure points for the tie-breaker. There will be at least 13 because South Laurel plays Middlesboro and one of them will get the win. Hazard plays Clay County. So, right now LCC has 12 points, will definitely have 13 and maybe 16 (If LCC beats Moore and Hazard beats Clay County).

Harlan County

Lee County, Virginia 1 win

Leslie County 3 wins

Powell County, Virginia 3 wins

This week: Bell County 8 wins

That's a total of 7 for-sure points for the tie-braker. Leslie County has a game left with Perry County Central and the two Virginia teams have two games each left but due to the KY playoffs starting in a week, only the games played to that point can be counted. So, right now HC has 7 points but could have as many as 10 from the already defeated opponents. If they beat Bell County, then they would have as many as 18 points. In my opinion, HC winds up with 8 playoff points from the 7 they have plus one more Powell Valley, VA win.

Whitley County

Lynn Camp 4 wins

This week: Rockcastle County 4 wins

That's a total of 4 for-sure points for the tie-breaker. Lynn Camp has a game remaining with McCreary Central. In my opinion, McCreary Central will win that game. If WC beats Rockcastle County, they will wind up with 8 points.

If it all works out this way, Letcher County Central will be first and then, since the points are tied at 8 (assuming my analysis of remaining games is correct), Whitely County wins the head-to-head tie breaker and gets 2nd. Harlan County would be third.

If some teams win that I don't expect, this could all change but I don't see anyway for Whitley County to do better than 2nd.

What do you think?

Good job!

It doesn't go head to head after first is decided, it still goes by points. If still tied then they both add wins from a 5th opponent, if tied add 6th opponent and so on. If a tie still exist after going through all opponent wins then it would go to head to head.

Pulaski and SW could meet again seeing this, BUT (notice the big but) they both will have their work cut out for them in every round.

There aren't any other defeated opponents to add to it other than district foes and that would be the same wins for each of them. I skipped those steps in my analysis but that is where it will ultimately end up.
