Parking at UK Football Games

Featured Replies

Yes, this was widely discussed last year.

My buddies live on the corner of Waller and Nicholasville in the middle of a lot with 15-20 spots. He's going to make bank.

Here's an article from August '08 where Mayor Jim Newberry is considering prohibiting "lawn parking."

It's amazing to me that people actually complain about this. Let the kids make some money by parking cars. It helps the visitors who go to the games & it helps the kids who rent the property.

So since they have a parking lot, they're allowed to park cars?

You're not allowed to park cars in your own backyard, though?

I know a TON of landlords that actually take the money from this.

And that is fine with me. The point remains that allowing gameday parking is a win-win for two sides, whether it's the landlord or the student.

To an extent, you could argue that allowing the landlord to park cars helps keep the rent down. If they were not getting that extra revenue from the parking, rent may bump up from $350 per person to $400, or even higher.

The bottom line is that I loathe the Lexington police and the way they discriminate against college kids and the streets that they occupy. Has it now become such a priority to harass the college students that it is now affecting everyone?

This is a horrible idea. It's the housing around campus...they need to realize it is what it is!

I agree. My friends who lived right across from the stadium had it in their favor...but being who they are they'd rather party than have to worry about attending to cars. I always had a FREE spot...unfortunately this will be the first year since 2001 that they or I haven't lived somewhere in the area.

Why don't they concentrate on important stuff?

I just called 859 - 425 - 2255 and spoke with someone who confirmed that there will be "a lot of police officers" patrolling and making sure "nobody parks in the front or back yards because of some city ordinance against parking on grass."

He said that the ticket for violating this is $15.

I'm glad Lexington has created this special "game day" task force to prevent so much crime!

Glad those aren't my tax dollars hard at work. What a freaking waste!

I continually like the city of Lexington less and less.

Sec. 18-129. Parking of vehicles in any residential section.

(2) It shall be unlawful for any person to park a vehicle within the front yard or side yard of any residential structure except upon an approved residential driveway as defined in article V of chapter 17. For purposes of this subsection, it shall also be unlawful for a person owning, possessing, managing or controlling residential property to allow the parking of vehicles within the front yard or side yard of such premises except upon an approved residential driveway as defined in article V of chapter 17.

The city ordinance explicitly states front yard or side yards. I'm thinking you may have some luck contesting a ticket if you're parked in the back yard...

So since they have a parking lot, they're allowed to park cars?

Correct. Insane.

Is this ticket per yard or per car? If it's per yard I'm sure most people will just eat the ticket because they will make much more than $15 on game day. I know from personal experience, that if you get a ticket for having a couch outside it's not "per couch".

I truly think this is the most absurd law ever. Folks, it's game day for 6 or 7 Saturdays a year for 5 or 6 hours. They expand the stadium by 10,000 to 15,000 and then take away potential parking spaces. Now that's real intelligence. I do not understand why this is such a big issue. I agree you would think the police would have something better to spend their time on.:ohbrother:
